Pap- nutritious or not?

Let's discuss!

This is not to cause quarrel here oh but for us to have a healthy exchange of ideas and notions.

I'd go first.

I think it's nutritious because it's made from the same grains - corn, Guinea corn and millet etc that many other baby cereals are made from...

Before grinding, roast d crayfish slightly in frying pan. Have never used potato, what I used then was unripe plantain. I slice it thinly and sun-dry, then I roast it in frying pan/oven till it's brownish(till it's done). I mill it together with my crayfish, groundnut and soyabeans. I add into d pap when i'm ready to feed. For your potato, you can roast in d oven till it's done then you mill. I hope this helps

yes, it did realy help. Thanks alot, God bles

How old is he? And stop forcing him, when Himself and everyone used to force Baby E, she spat it out, cried and generally ran away and would Even refuse Cerelac. So I took my time and sat with her: it was exhausting but she now eats most stuff. I was given excellent advice by only one person who told me "don't force her and give her what you like eating".

yes, i agree wit u. Pap especialy wen its a combination of d 3 its more nutritious than a tin of cereal.
Secondly, Its natural and gives room 4 other combination like crayfish, soya beans, plaintain, groundnut etc, unlike cereal.
Thirdly, its cheaper and lasts longer.

Pap by itself is not that nutritious. Researchers from UNN Nsukka compiled data from Nigerian and Senegalese and Ghanian researchers and published a paper:

http://archive.unu.edu/unupress/food/V191e/ch06.htm

They recommend adding chickpea, groundnut and milk and sorghum to it. They also explain best ways to r
Prepare it to maximise nutrition. Pap is like Spaghetti. It's a long read but worth it. I saw it the first time this questioncame but that pap question became an argument so I kept quiet.

Here's a quote:

Many researchers have worked extensively on cereal-legume combinations in Nigeria. For example, Fashakin and Ogunsoola [20] formulated nut-ogi (a mixture of corn gruel and peanut), Akinrele and Edwards [25] formulated soya-ogi (corn gruel plus soya bean), and the Collaborative Research Support Programme (CRSP) Cowpea Linkage Project at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, formulated cerebabe (corn plus cowpea). Other useful combinations include ogi and melon protein (corn gruel plus melon seed) and cowpea-ogi [38]. Some of these combinations have been adopted by the food-processing industries and are available in the Nigerian market. Table 3 shows some blends used in West Africa [39].
However, Fashakin et al. observed that no single protein from the above sources was adequate to promote growth or enhance nitrogen retention as well as a milk-based diet [38]. To this end, a mixture of cowpea, melon, soya bean, and ogi was found to be superior to any single protein source in protein efficiency ratio, net protein retention, biological value, and net protein utilization [38]"

Basically, even pap and groundnut alone is still not that nutritious it requires a lot of additives.

So, I'm not on TeamPap because it requires so much to make a good meal for babies and those requirements can become hard work. There seem to be easier meals.

First... pls extend my love to her... she needs all the encouragement she can get. The pain is something else.
A. Let her do a sit bath... AVOID hot water ard the area to prevent loose stitches. Add salvon... I prefer it wen she feels beta she can add salt too
B. Constant cleaning with warm water+disfectant after every toilet visit
C. She should change her sanitary pad constantly..evry 4hrs... soaked or not
D. No tight outfit till further notice
E. Let her sit on a wooden stool... helps to avoid farting frm the vaginal. It is hard... but it helped me during mine
F. AVOID wrapping or tying her tummy too tight.. pls pls..till d stitches fall off. Speaking from personal experience. She can take hot tea or pepper soup 'omugwo ' type if she is worried abt the tummy
G. IGNORE unnecessary advices... listen to her body... let her take babie steps with her legs closed together as she walks ard the house.
Take her time when feeding... if she feels pressure on the stitch...she can stand up and take a short walk... then sit to breastfeed babie.

Good evening ma.. please can u explain sit bath to me and how it's done pls, thnk u

tanx so much dear Hmmmm my mum is still with me taking care of me and d baby, as u av said I will kip my cool and go down with only water to wash his face and shear butter as cream but I will try my best to get d dove soap. wot of rising powder can I apply cos I've heard so much abt d powder on dis thread

When it comes to powder I follow that rule. I have Agnesia powder but have used it no more than 5 times. If rashes come and she's not in pain or fevers, I let it be. If the rashes are bad, apply a zinc oxide cream.

You add disinfectant and salt to warm or lukewarm water and sit in it making sure your jajaina touches the water. Do this several times daily, the Sitz Bowl pictured is most ideal cos it's comfortable and doesn't put pressure on your stitch(unlike sitting inside a regular bowl placed on the floor) just place it on your toilet sit and relax .

It's sold for like 1500-2000 naira.

Let the pharmacist decide on what you can use since he/she will see it directly and be able to advice accordingly.

The rash could be anything any mama here who wants to advice or point you in a direction will at least need a visual

Good luck

Thanks ma'am!

Yeah. I can't find Calamine lotion in my area, which is kinda sad cry Agnesia powder is Zinc oxide ans another compound. It's the delivery that makes it tricky but it's a great product.

Has anyone experienced this? My 7weeks old boy does not poo-poo everyday, sometimes once in 3days, and lately 5days...his fart can knock an elephant out... grin grin grin Lol. We initially started using gripe water to soften his stomach, and lately He had 'ella', this body rash that appears on newborn and we have been using 'agbo' and herbal soap to bathe him, the 'agbo woman' prescribed agbo jeddi for babies which we have been giving him but his poo-poo is still not regular.
He eats regularly and normally..the boy can suck and eat...Lol and he keeps gaining weight so I am kind of happy he is growing well, but the poo thing worries me. Is it normal or should we have something to worry about.

pls, stop giving him agbo, his tummy is too tender for that. It's normal especially if the baby is EBF, my baby go for days too but as long as he farts nothing to worry about.

Just make sure ur wife add fruits to her diet, and eat vegetables, nothing is wrong with ur baby o, stop the agbo outrightly, u can use agbo to bathe him but NO NO for drinking.
Dont stress or overload that tender liver.

Haven't read through yet but I'm surprised! Personally I like pap so will give baby nonetheless but I actually believed it'll be top range in terms of nutrients to babies

I think pap is nutritious cos the grains has their nutrients in them. But personally, I can't take it ordinary without milk. I make it for my baby but not everyday. Sometimes I prepare it with egg or I add his formular. He takes other cereals as well. I prefer pap to custard cos its natural.

7 week old liver is still tender to process all that agbo nah! plus what's the correlation between eela and agbo jedi? undecided

If he is on ebf let your dw take lots of fruits , massage the tummy during bath time, drip warm water into his anus.

If on formula go a scoop less (if you are sticking to the recommended feeding guideline) give warm water first thing in the morning and several times daily (about 20ml) don't give too much to take up space for nutritious food.

For the ela since the agbo doesn't seem to be working why not go see a doctor to be sure it's ela?

Next time please type your enquiry into the search box and narrow it down to health section because this issue has been discussed severally! so we don't keep repeating and going over the same topic over and over again thanks. Hope your baby gets well soon! Kisses to him.
