Igbos In Delta State Refuse To Be Divided Identity crisis remains a big cultural and social problem with our western igbos in delta state, rivers state etc. Igbo denial still persist but majority still knows their root and have refused to be involved in denying their igboness just to survive in the political game of Nigeria. This is a screen shot from a proud igbo in delta state. 72 Likes 12 Shares

It is time to do away with this word "Delta Igbo". It is as insulting as calling me 'Anambra Igbo'. All this divide and rule is as a result of being in the British contraption called Nigeria. When we get our independence, everything from Asaba to Igbanke in Edo will be incuded in the "Greater Igbo confederation" and the words 'Anioma' and 'Delta-Igbo' will die a natural death. Igbo is Igbo. 330 Likes 21 Shares |

Nice write up. Igbo is Igbo. From Igbanke to Ihiala, Ahoada to Arochukwu, Oguta to Oba, Ezza to Etche. there is nothing like ''Delta Igbo'' or ''Main Igbo'. Meanwhile.... 268 Likes 17 Shares

This is the work of wicked people that always want division amongs the Igbos. These people are quick to shout 'Igbos are in five SE states only' yet they claim to have their brothers in MB lands of Kwara & Kogi. I don't blame them but Igbos that have fallen for this nonsense. How can someone serve you shiit and you eat it? When have you heard any say I am MB Yoruba or I am NW fulani but when it comes to us in the east we even shout and quarell about this. It is so frustrating. Ishilove. 89 Likes 2 Shares |

Let us be honest...most of anioma is not ibo but Benin.....ibos have long migrated to these areas and taken over the demographics....but they are descendants of the Benins... 38 Likes 3 Shares |

coolitempa: As someone who actually has ancestral ties to the Aniomas in Delta State, I will politely ask you to refrain from saying things that you have little understanding about. My people have also been accused, by some, of being descendents of the Bini people but that is not true. There is a difference between having a significant amount of Bini blood and being influenced by Bini culture due to living under the now defunct Benin Kingdom. What we witness today in Anioma and Onitsha and its environs is the result of a 'reverse migration'. 80 Likes 5 Shares |

Anioma people have different experiences. Some people from my family have no problem with being called Igbo while some detest it. As for those claiming it's the Yorubas's and Fulani's causing this division, all I can say is keep your ignorance to yourself. Most of the Anioma's who don't like being called Igbos have stories to tell about the SE people reminding them of their origin. 67 Likes 2 Shares |

i dont think is the hausa's nor the yoruba's that is made majjority of anioma not to accept being called igbo. Anioma have three gruop oshimili/aniocha, ukwuani and ika and this gruops have their own view on being igbo or not. the aniocha/oshimili people which covers the asaba, ibusa, iseleuku axis are more closer to the igbos both in language and customs and traditions. while the ukwuani are closer to the urhobo, isoko, ijaw axis and also in traditions and customs they share many things in common. while the ikas which covers the agbor, abavo area are closer to the bini people in traditions and customs. As for me no man should speak for Anioma being igbo or not because even in Anioma there are differences in languages, dress code etc. 3 Likes 1 Share |

I disagree with him slightly. As a Niger Deltan Man who travels and interact freely with people from different tribes Have toured and stayed in out 57 cities i think i can say one or two things about Nigeria after over 20 years in Nigeria. Delta Igbo is a nice descriptive for my ibusa and Anoina brothers. I find them to be very straight forward people in many areas and more straight forward than my other fellow Niger Delta brothers. Infact i'm planning a resettlement i'm heading to Anioma and Ibusa axis cos i see them as a fantastic people. The descriptive gives very good report about the people not a negative one. Trust me my father and mother's side may nto see me for 20 more years ( though they haven't seen me for 20 years now ) but Anioma go see me live. They are a lovely people anyday anytime The Urhobo's have a split unit and when u see one part you may get an imperfect view about what they think. We dont see Ifeanyi Okowa nor anyone from Asaba or Ibusa as an Igbo we see them as Aniomas who can decide who they are and their identity. Infact if there's going to be a split it wont be typical ndigbo versus urhobos etc. The Aniomas will reserve the full right to be an independent state or align with Ndigbo or The Niger Delta Overall o i'm coolest with Anioma my Urhobo Ijaw can be very sneaky attimes and yes they are my people but anyday anytime Aniomas are good people who should be proud of themselves. The people who we all are waiting to understand is our Ikwerre people. Perhaps when i make an Ikwerre friend i can understand them beta 21 Likes 2 Shares |
