nextstep: Bro, that was well said and deep! My friends from delta repeatedly told me that they are delta-igbo and not igbo(some with strong warning), so the issue is actually not what we non easterners call them but who they introduced themselves to be. Just never knew it was this deep. In other news 5% done turn 3% o 1 Like 1 Share |

Shym3xx:u contradict ur own stupidity u said any Igbo found from anywhere outside Onitsha down west into agbor where slaves who went on to outnumber the indigene,I mean hear urself agbor fought toe to toe with the Bini headhunters if agbor was a Bini town as u rightly categorized all other town in the west bank of the Niger as town owned by Bini indigenes, why would Bini hunt for slave in it own region, and why would agbor a town in ur so called Bini empire go toe to toe with the crown. 4 Likes |

Ubenedictus: Lol! You can't be serious. In absence of a colonial Igbo land forcing Igbo language on groups. It's obvious that the Language of the majority of the dwellers in Ancient Anioma was Igbo, as Igbo language ended up swallowing all other languages there, despite the imperial power of Bini on Anioma and the proximity of Ika and Even Igbanke to Edo, the people ended up with a classical Igbo dialect. Except in few cases where these immigrants founded their own independent communities, as in Ebu ( Igala) and Odiani ( Olukumi) could Igbo language of the majority of the natives of anioma not prevail. Even Odiani today is seriously assimilating into Igbo mainstream of Anioma, as they kings now go by the name "Obi" and with Igbo names and titles to match. Its not hard for any genuine anthropologist to figure out who were the main inhabitants and were in majority in Anioma before the arrival of others. 3 Likes |

michael142: Edo is not part of Biafra except for the Igbo speaking community of Igbanke. As for Urohbo,Itsekiri etc, they can stay back in Nigeria for all we care. What is more important for us Igbos is our kith and kin in Anioma and Igbanke. The rest can stay in Nigeria and rot if it pleases them. 7 Likes |

Ubenedictus: The person I quoted said that most Igbos in the aforementioned areas are descendants of Bini people. This is not true. There is a difference between having a small amount of Bini blood- intermixing isn't rare in a lot of places in Igboland- and being of direct Bini heritage, like that person suggested. My last name sounds a little Bini and I know that some of my ancestors migrated from Benin to where they are now. However, this was as a result of reverse migration; I'm not exactly sure why they went back to their original homeland in the East- I'll have to do some more research on that- but their 'Igboness' is undeniable. As for your point about the locals using some Bini words to name their villages, well, that is to be expected considering that they must have spent several years living under the Benin Kingdom, in which the lingua franca was Bini. Its probably similar to how a lot of Igbos today mix some English words into Igbo- a poor comparison but I hope that you understand what I'm saying. We may have some similarities with the Bini people, that's what happens when you live under an empire, but we are not Bini. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Re: Igbo Vs Delta-Igbo: What A Guy Posted On Facebook by Ngozi123(f): 7:09pm On Sep 15, 2016 |
Ubenedictus: It's actually sounds Bini and Igbo so it's not at all far fetched to believe that. Going by your post, you'd think that most Igbos in the Anioma/Onitsha axis have Bini surnames. My surname is very very rare in my area. The reverse migration theory is actually credible considering that Onitsha was one of the trade centres in that part of the world. |
