Stop and listen.

What do you hear?

The wind swirling in your ears?
Waves crashing?
Leaves rustling?

Or perhaps the whirs of modern life….?
The buzzing of a computer?
The whooshes of a car?

Do you hear it?

The chaotic rhythm?
The beat of insanity?
The silent tempo of the world around you?

Just breath everything in.

What’s it like?

Is it the smell of flowers?
That salty smell of a sea breeze?
The scent of a forest?

Or maybe something else….?
The aroma of coffee?
Something lemony fresh?

Do you smell it?

The aura of everything around you?
The sweet stench of life?
The unique familiarity of each scent?

Take everything in once more.

Is there something in the air?

A sweetness drifting on the wind?
A salty taste that hangs in the air?
The taste of fresh air itself?

Perhaps you prefer a different taste….?
The taste of a fresh brew?
The flavor of freshly made food?

Do you taste it?

Those every changing aromas around you?
The sweetness that brings joy?
The bitterness that brings sorrow?

Stand still and close your eyes.

What do you feel?

The wind dancing through your hair?
The heat from the sun caressing your skin?
The moisture in the air before it rains?

Perhaps something more domestic….?
The chill of a room?
The warmth of being wrapped in a blanket?

Can you feel it?

The weight of the air above you?
The Earth spinning bellow you?
The gravity that holds you down?

Now look around.

What is it that you see?

An open field?
The vast sea?
A green forest?

Perhaps the inside of a building….?
A cobweb in the corner?
A blank sheet of paper?

Can you see it?

All the different colors and shades?
The organized chaos around you?
All of life’s possibilities?

Now look at yourself.

Who do you see?

A smile?
A set of eyes?
A face?

Can you recognize yourself….?
Could you tell if you were broken?
Could you tell if you were not?

Do you know?

Do you know who you truly are?
Are you proud of yourself?
Do others know you too?

Take everything in.

How does it feel?

To live?
To breath?
To have a beating heart?

Do you feel your muscles as they move….?
Can you feel blood flow through your veins?
Do you hear the thoughts swirling in your head?

How does it feel to be yourself right now?

Is it strange?
Do you feel the muse?
Do you know inspiration?

I think you’re ready.

Did you take everything in?

Every sight and every sound?
Every taste and smell?
Every feeling?

What of the feelings of yourself….?
Your thoughts and emotions, did you take those in too?
And those small sounds and feelings that we usually just ignore?

Can you keep a secret?

All those feelings and senses?
They are the part of life people tend to over look.
They are the things that make life beautiful.

Remember everything right now.

Do you know what it is?

Its life.
And there are few who see the gift they are given.
Who see the beauty in the everyday.

Now you are one of them….
Remember it.
And share it.

Because life is a gift. kiss

My heart!

Slow as a snail my heart beats,
Beats that kills but pleasures it,
Beats not of happiness nor sorrow,
Beats that's indifferent and oblivious or tomorrow,
"Tabula rasae, would be a perfect sobriquet for the feelings dyed-in-the-wool in my heart
Ferocious as a gorilla, fights the feelings in my heart,
And often times,I'd wonder if happiness really exists as the feeling of melancholia mostly wins,
Wonder if happiness was just a phantasmagoria my heart seldomly swims,
Wonder if happiness was just a facade that the bible and Quran erroneously made us believe in,
Wonder if happiness was just an hypothesis by the optimist to make us live without sin,
But to these questions, answers I've got none, even in my dreams,

My now slow heart had once experienced love,
It gave my soul a new meaning of being loved,
The very "meaning" that was annihilated to sorrow by my beloved,
Reiterating once again if happiness was just a facade or a truth,
But I'll not impede in my search for the truth,
Even if it takes as much time a seed begets a fruit,
I'll continue to find an answer for my heart and not desist,
And probably realize at the end ,that this so called 'happiness' in the first place, never really exists.

My heart melts at her every smile,
Going down inundated by her beauty down the mile,
Something if i didn't stop would drive me senile,
I'll call what I feel for her metamorphosing infatuation,
though at it's acme I wouldn't misconceive it for love,
because love is beautiful without any blemish,
You may be right calling me selfish,
But all i'm doing is just protecting my heart even though its outlandish,
it's torture on my heart and not something I relish,
I had to do it,it was beyond my control,
All I ever needed was a modicum of Certainty,
but what I got was more than uncertainty,
I had to run from her vicious torture,
I had to cut her off me and probably if fate would permit,my future,
I had to kill the love metamorphosing from the infatuation,
And steadfastly hope it goes into extinction,
Or I'll just live the rest of my life in obmutescence, pity and rejection,
Waiting for that modicum of certainty I had once ran from,
The modicum of certainty that probably will never come.

This is what I call art! I particular love your use of personification “..... The sun caressing your skin?” Reminds me of a poem in my secondary school days “An African Thunderstorm” by David Rubadiri
