Jamaica, No Problem!!! by shaybebaby(f): 7:07pm On Sep 18, 2016
Okay, you are going to have to bear with me as I'm still a bit jet-lagged. But this thread is to showcase a little bit of the wonderful island of Jamaica, ya man!
Just 90 miles from the beautiful island of cuba( which I believe is the largest Caribbean island), Jamaica is the home of ganja, rum, reggae and some awesome booty shaking. grin

Jamaica is home to 2.8 million people and outside of the country, the United States and United Kingdom have the largest Jamaican population.
The island is divided into three counties, Cornwall, Sussex and Middlesex. These are then subdivided into parishes and I stayed in the resort of Negril, west of the island in the parish of Hanover.

Kingston, lies east of the island and a five hour drive from Negril so No, I didn't visit Bob Marley Museum or get to see its capital.

The resort of Negril is about an hour and the half drive from Montego Bay or as called by the locals, Mobay which is the nearest airport.
We were situated on an area called bloody bay, just after 7 mile beach.
It got its from way back when whales used to come to the bay and were killed in their numbers by the locals. It was done on such a scale that the bay earned its name.

Not quite pristine white sands you'll find in Cuba or punta Cana of Dominican Republic but still, crystal clear water( with some weird grassy plants, didn't look like sea weed to me).

I present, Bloody Bay.

Cc mindfulness, Cococandy, onegai.
Coco, it's right in your doorstep and I saw plenty bubbas, really child friendly.
Onegai, it's a 9 and half hour flight so if you don't mind the distance..would thoroughly recommend it.

But stuff is expensive there, I found more expensive than UK.. Regular stuff I mean.

Currency is Jamaican dollars although the US dollar is widely accepted.
The exchange rate is roughly 120 Jamaican dollars to 1usd.
So I wasn't best pleased when boo had to shell out $119 for a scuba diving trip. So underwater photos sadly, we didn't prepare too well prior. The depth of the dive was about 10m and I was told they spotted a shark.. I wouldn't know.. I was safely onboard the boat jamming to some 90's rnb with the captain. lipsrsealed

Did I mention it rained every single day.. Summer months are rainy and apparently it gets better from end of October.

The most famous waterfall on the island is Dunns river falls. If you are staying in Ocho Rios which is where it is situated, do it. Entry is 20 dollars a head and some water shoes are a must.

However if you have to travel from Negril or some other resort, (ours was a 3 hour drive) not worth it.heavily commercialised and didn't get a chance to explore...very regimented. Didn't take pictures here, left our phones on the bus but these are some pics from the Internet.

Some time in the near future I guess. We had that planned for this summer before we knew baby girl was on the way. So it didn't work out (I didn't even know it's rainy in the summer over there. Thanks for that).

Nice photos kiss

It is technically hurricane season, same weather as Miami. Still very hot in the lower 30's.
Thank you. I loved everyone I met, bar 1 who was a rep.

Our hotel has chains round the world, and hands down the best food I have encountered in an all inclusive.
The pool side at night,
Lobby,
Beach,
Salad bar.

I didn't take the pic of the one on resort because apparently, they boiled the chicken first before grilling on bbq.

The real jerk chicken is done on them hot bamboo sticks, THIS was by the roadside and it was da bomb.

YS falls, located just about an hour and the half from Negril. To get there, you pass through the town of Sav la Mar which is an old Spanish name from when the island was still a colony of Spain before the Brits came to whoop their asses. grin
Now this we found more special than Dunn river falls, set deep in the forest with lovely well maintained gardens, two pools and ofcourse the waterfall.
Unlike Dunn, you cannot climb up this fall but it was definitely more fun.
