Dainfamous: I thought he was Chukz the Ika man but I realized Ikechukwu is from Asaba which is an Igbo community and apologized accordingly. It's Ika that I urge Ndigbo to dissociate from not Asaba, Okpanam etc. I guess you are an Ika man and you are equally not welcome. 1 Like |

Ubenedictus: Funny enough, about half of these names you list as edoid are actually Igbo in meaning. For example, 'omiken' or 'omiko' in Anambra Igbo. Chukwu onye omiko (God of mercy) is popularly said in Anambra Igbo. Ehi meni m omiken or in central Igbo Chi mere m omiko (God has shown me mercy), Osedodo (Ose is short for Osebuluwa - lord that supports the earth in Igbo and 'doo' is another Igbo word for please in Anambra and Enugu states. For example, Izu doo nwa m patalu m oche), Ehiedu or Chiedu which is a popular Igbo name. The rest could be Bini. At best these names could be said to be a Bini-Igbo mix, and not entirely Bini. 1 Like |

OdenigboAroli: OdenigboAroli, yes the present-day Onitsha was previously inhabited by the Nkwelle Ezunaka (Oze) and Ogboli Nri villages which were all part of the Eri-Awka territory. Whether Onitsha people (Ezechime) originated from Western Igboland or Eastern Igboland, it doesn't really matter. What matters is that Ezechime and his descendants are Igbo people. Let me also add that Western Igboland has always been occupied by Igbo people since antiquity. From a single ancestral community, Igbo people spread out to all parts of Igboland, at the same time, thousands of years ago. On the meaning of "Asaba", I would say that the name is a dialectal variant of "Ahaba" - a type of plant found in many areas of Igboland. In Idemili Igbo dialect, it becomes "Araba". Contrary to the "Ahabago m" theory of the meaning of "Asaba", I would suggest that we look into the plant named Ahaba/Araba/Asaba. Founders of a new land usually name the place by the type of landmark, trees, plants, or natural occurrences prevalent in that area. So, most likely, when the most recent settlers of Asaba got there, they saw many Ahaba plants in that area, and so they called their new settlement "Ahaba" which gradually transmuted into "Asaba" by way of dialectal change (the same way we have Ohai/Osai (Ossai), ahu/asu/ashu/aru dialectal variants, and many such examples). There are several Igbo villages named "Ahaba", for instance, the Ahaba village in Orodo near Owerri; Ahaba Imenyi in Isuikwuato; the Okporo Ahaba village in Ngwa; Asaba Ubulu (Ahaba Ubulu) and Asaba Ese (Ahaba Ese) villages in Western Igboland; Araba (Ahaba) villages in Northern Igboland and more. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Abagworo:Oga, you got it very wrong here. Ikechukwue is a borna-fide pro Igbo general that should be respected. He has single handedly decimated afonja hordes on this forum, without support from any of you. You are just been emotional here. Your comment is very divisive, what we are actually fighting to correct. Ogini Furthermore, you offend Ika people by the bold.... will you becasue of one man and dish others out? What about the pro Igbo folks in Ika? What about Osita Modi, the moderator of Proudly Anioma Proudly Igbo Facebook page? Who works tirelessly for the unity of Indigbo? I think you owe Ika people an apology for that statement. Chukzybling may not even be an Ika citizen 2 Likes |

I dont like wot u guys are discussing abt Onicha Though is quite Confusing coz Anioma supposed to be A Name of State not A clan coz is not naturally a clan like Idemili coz dey hav Ikas and Ukwuani wich is a Clan names So we cant categorically call Onitsha Anioma coz Anioma is not a Clan, is like a name of Formed group of people eg Omambala is Not a clan coz we hav Idemili and Nri clan too But Onitsha is related to Igbo people in dat Anioma formed group (Oshimili and Aniocha people). Onitsha people are my Neighbours though de people included my town Ogidi as Anioma too but Ogidi neva linked or related to Anioma formed Group or Igbo part wich is Oshimili and Aniocha, even Chinua Achebe could not do dat coz we have different Culture,Dressing and dialect with Onitsha people but Same Heritage wich is Igbo Ikechukwu why u are wrong is dat Anioma is not a clan, i think U people dont hav a name of Clan but de one dat could be nice to ear is Umuezechima Dat Anioma is just proposed state name Also knw dat Asaba is not Umuezechima Its quite confusing bro U people need to edit de wikipedia and do more research to be sure just like de Idemilis 3 Likes |

@OdenigboAroli & General Ikechukwu please you shouldn't do this here. Igbo is Igbo no matter the location. SE or SS are terms created by Nigeria and should not mater much to us. We know our land and we are all brothers. 1 Like |

I don't understand this Onitsha being Omambala / Anioma issue. Is Omambala now a clan of Igbo? Is Omambala nolonger just a state that will cease to exist the day Nigeria stops existing. Biko let's stop unnecessary bickering and look at the bigger picture, which is that whether Onitsha ends up forming a political unit with Ezechima clan in Western Igbo area or chose to remain within the Idemili-Oyi-Njikoka- Anaocha cluster in an Igbo nation, it won't matter, as it will always be an Igbo town. 4 Likes |

Drchristian: If you don't know, Oduduwa is actually an Igbo name. Nobody has ever said anything about the meaning of the name "Oduduwa" in Yoruba or Edo language. In Igbo language, "Uwa" is the world. "Odudu" comes from the verb "idu" -- to lead. "Odudu", "Oduu", or "Onye-ndú" and also "Onye Odudu" is a person who is leading another person or thing. Therefore: " Odudu-Uwa", "Odu uwa", "Onye Odudu Uwa" simply means "World leader" or "world leadership" in Igbo language. Which is a suitable nickname for someone with lofty aspirations. |

Igbos there like hoobs, Cyberwolf and Igboson was happily with the appointment and defended Kachikwu Igbo identity. In the second thread, both Sunnybobo and qualified that raised the issue of Kachiukwu not being Igbo were both rebuked by Ndiigbo and were even called "yellowbars" trying to divide Igboland. My point stands. Ndiigbo were happy with Kachiukwu appointment but also demanded for further appointment. 2 Likes |

Igboid: Ide nnaa, there is what we call the Omanbala culture, which originated from the early Aguleris and Nri settlers. It's easily identifiable by our cultural practices. Omanbala chili Nze chie Ozo is a cultural melting pot. Our dialects are smooth and elegant, our music is melodic and dances are very graceful...Our wome do not dance with their bums shaking like some prostitutes. These are some of our cultural practices. Don't let your pan Igboist ideology make you to lose your identity....You are an Omanbala firstly. Ekesia na ama ebulu naa n'Obi. This is the very post that sparked the fire. Now,tell me how this was offensive. I didn't say Omanbala is superior neither did I denigrate any group. Truth is these outbursts has nothing to do with my post. I can mention how many times I was attacked just because I said I am from "Anambra". There is a certain paranoia. And dare not be proud of your Anambra root else you will get a beat down. I must however say Abia people doesn't have this problem. But no amount of intimidation will deter me from promoting and celebrating my culture till eternity. My 3months old daughter has already started smiling to Ezigbo Obiligbo,Okonkwo Asaa,Egwu Obi ,Osadebe music. I will mould my offspring into a proud Omanbala children and they will tell the world takes about the Omanbala cultural elegance....Nobody can stop me! 1 Like |

OdenigboAroli: Actually this is a thread for Delta Igbos. IMO, Delta Igbo people from Oshimili area are purely Igbo people and will just have to drop the "Delta" tag and be proud of who they are. But Ikwerre is a different level altogether. From birth, you're addressed as an Ikwerre, both from your parents, your community and even the language you speak. Everything from mindset to approach and eventually, the way of life sets the Ikwerres apart from the Igbos. It was a very wise decision by our forebears to seek the path of clarity when they went to lenghts to distinguish Ikwerre from Igbo and to ensure the Nigerian constitution recognises same. Though the British skilfully lumped us together for ease of administration, our Ikwerre elders were able to point out clearly to the Nigerian state the relative ratio of our similarities and dissimilarities. NIGERIA saw the truth, and our recognition was granted. If you're now saying Ikwerre is Igbo, remember it has a legal implication. I will use this medium to once again assure any Igbo who has illusory hopes of Ikwerres becoming Igbos to come out his wet dreams. We are determined to push the achievements of our forebears to even greater heights. You can take this statement and bank on it. |
