nancyij: I thought Rofemiguwa answered you about the cod liver oil. I dont think you are being ignored. I do not believe babies under 6 months need any supplements except it is specifically prescribed by a doctor for whatever reason.. If she is being breastfed, make sure YOU take multivitamins.. iron, Omega 3, vitamin D are the major ones, adding cod liver oil should not be a problem but please read the label to see their advise for nursing mums. Please stay away from all those herbal stuff. If she is formular fed, it is already fortified with all she needs vitamin and mineral wise.. So no additional one is needed Personally i will say wait till a baby is over 1 year when they are no longer on formular or any fortified milk or breastmilk to introduce any supplements. I hope this answers your question! Oya! come and join me in eating my imaginary puff corn and chilled coke! 1 Like |

Nancyij, when it comes to supplements you should do according to how you feel like. Our doctor and my siblings don't approve of supplements in general for kids. And they are very experienced paeditricians and are also parents. But if you go to a pharmacy here, the pharmacist will definitely recommend it. So it's a toss up. I don't think babies should be swallowing multivitamins anyhow below the age of 6 months. Perhaps wait till 1 year. I'm not currently giving anything now, if I do it would be Cod liver oil (for the Omega-3). I won't stress over it but be more worried about eating better and healthy. And also, if you ask a question and you don't get a reply the first time, ask again and mention some monikers. Because sometimes, comments get lost if there's a lot of activity going on. Don't assume anyone ignored you and don't give an attitude about it, okay: ) I've asked questions and it has gotten ignored even when nothing was going on, I assumed there were no answers and moved on. 2 Likes |

mitchyy: I'll do you a solid. Lagos Book fair holds around this period or the next few months. Most of the publishers will be there. However, they do not give discounts (I have asked and begged!! but you do get a chance to meet some of the authors). Also, Ake Arts and Book fair is happening in November in Abeokuta and it's a very nice program. Good place to get books from the publishers directly. |

greatp80: Hian! Oya go to Defcon 5: do yoi you have a maid or can Daddy be in charge of taking care of our little chicken pox patient and you isolate yourself and the baby? So your boy has to not be sleeping around the baby or you. Also not be playing. Then get bleach and be vigorous in cleaning every surface with a bleach solution. Is chicken pox a virus? We need Kaffy4bill on this to teach us hospital methods on keeping the place clean and uninfected. |

Jennykoko3009: I think it is normal for the fontanelle to do so. That part of his skull hasn't hardened. Funfact: babies have very soft bones and if they slice off a bit of their finger, if you attach it back, it will grow back with no scar. I have proof...or does anyone want to do a Science experiment with their pin in 1 Like |

Jennykoko3009: If it is pulsating... it is normal. If it appears sunken, it could be a sign of dehydration. If it appears swollen, could be a sign of infection. But since you say it normalizes after a few minutes it is probably fine. If you are worried, go see a peadiatrician. But make sure your baby is well hydrated. 3 Likes |

Good day, I have a four-day old daughter who might have this, will check when I get to the hospital later. Why I'm here is that doctors requested 4 tests and one shows presence of jaundice of up to 12.1 or so, the hospital's photolamps are all occupied so we were referred to another hospital. Everyone is saying we use unripe pawpaw soaked in water that it flushes out the jaundice, everyone around me I told even experienced mothers, I need advice please as going to another hospital will cost a fortune, I'm yet to settle their delivery bill as normal delivery caused fetal stress at 3cm dilation so she had to be operated. I'm the father by the way, mother is still weak from CS Thanks AlphaHandMaiden: |

pheesayor: What state are you? If in Lagos, can you go to Massey clinic or Island Maternity, Lagos Island? Have you tried the bigger GHs? Unripe pawpaw and sunlight only work for mild cases of Jaundice. Was your baby full term? Depending on some factors, it may be mild jaundice but what does the doctor say? If the doctors are saying baby needs phototherapy, it may be that the levels are rising. There are levels for different risk factors and different days of age (ie at 48 hours after birth etc). |

pheesayor:Many people swear by it! I haven't tried it and I even refused my niece taking it last week when she was diagnosed of jaundice. But my sisters mil claims that's what she used on her kids that had it and it worked. Me I am not endorsing it o! Just do whatever you can for your baby! God will perfect her healing as well as her mom and replenish you . 2 Likes |

Jennykoko3009: Its not the area i.e. the fontanelle getting infected but a sign of infection or an ailment in the body generally. |

Re: NEW BORN BABIES! Are U A New Mum? Then Lets Discuss Babies Here!!!!! by mitchyy(f): 5:08pm On Sep 20, 2016 |
pheesayor: If the hospital recommended phototherapy then it might not be a mild case of jaundice. Those methods majorly work for mild cases. I had same issues but my baby's own was mild and my mum used one leaf to bathe him, and was always taking him under early morning sun. It cleared after some weeks. Island maternity as recommended by Onegai is okay. Their services is affordable. You can check them out if you're in Lagos. Just calm down and don't fret so you can think clearly. My husband was once in your shoes and he almost ran mad. I saw how stressed he was and it affected my bp. So try and be calm and locate affordable hospitals. God will see your family through this phase. 1 Like |

Onegai: Chicken pox is caused by a virus thus, there is no specific treatment for it. You can only manage the symptoms. To keep from spreading, infected patient has to be isolated from people who don't have or have never had it. If you've had it in the past then you are immured to it and most likely can't contact it again- only seen one patient who had it 2ce. Clean all surfaces, utensils, beddings et al touched by infected patient with a sterilizing solution- chlorine, bleach et al. There should be no contact with infected patient till the infectious stage is over, this is when the last blister has opened up, fluid drained and crusted. Till then, just manage with paracetamol for pains/fever and calamine lotion or any cooling cream for the itch. Most importantly, keep away from pregnant women and babies. 1 Like 2 Shares |
