Not using Maggi will force you to learn how to taste food better. Like, my MiL says my soups taste like crayfish and onions (which she likes). You'll learn how to combine ingredients and understand what it does and be able to adapt recipes from other countries. You will understand how Garlic and Ginger taste and work (like Ginger and White pepper play up the taste of Red pepper and make food more spicy). I make Quaker oats with Pear or Apple, honey, milk, Nutmeg or Cinnamon for Baby E and myself. Most of the spices run from N400 to N700 per cup or pack and Chinese sauces are like N1600 per big bottle and N800 for small bottles of Oyster sauce. Ibadan will have a supermarket to get them, but you'll have to ask an Indian or Chinese person. Or if a mum here can be nice and help you with getting them from Ilupeju or SPAR and sending them to you in Ibadan via road transporters (though I'm a bit worried about some sauces in glass bottle but bubble wrap will secure them).

Look for Cumin, Coriander, Turmeric, Black Pepper, White Pepper, Garam Masala, Nutmeg, Cinnamon, Oyster Sauce, Dark soy Sauce, sweet chili Sauce, fish Sauce, sweet and sour sauce. You can buy cans of Coconut milk or make it yourself (it is hard work, I remember that from childhood). Fresh Parsley and Basil are nice and Igbo ladies sell Basil as Nchanwu in the market. There are shops that sell fresh herbs too (Shoprite does and some places in VI) but you can grow them if you have seeds (plus you're in Ibadan you have space to grow stuff).

Nigerian food can be quite repetitive after a while so this helps.

lol @u have space to grow stuff.

I already use garlic, ginger n recently got bay leaves. i have nchawu at home pls how do I use it apart from in soups or pottage.
tnx ma'am

@mummide, the cord must be very thick. Pls keep it dry. By now it should be drying up little by little.
My MIL says she puts powder for more drying effect though I have never tried it.

Tnx Soonest , it was very thick , but thank God there has bn great improvement, it's just a tiny thing left now, likely to fall off in 2-3days time . My head is relaxed now grin, tnx alot mam

Honestly I don't know the address off head, but it is easy to find. Google "Indian Bazaar Ilupeju" and just put on your Google Maps, very easy directions. It's off Town Planning Way, I think. But the road is not tarred but cars can pass easily.

As a garnish. Sprinkle it raw when you are done cooking. Someone even made a drink of watermelon, ginger, basil and small sprite and it was nice. It's safe to eat raw.

Thanks @Onegai.

My SIL stayed in India for a while and she's been hammering the "no maggi" but it's almost impossible to cook without it here.

Guess I just have to find the motivation.

I'd advise you go to your LG as it will be easier ......I initially paid 2000 to my hospital for ordinary certificate but all they gave was birth declaration or something not quite sure and it didn't serve purpose then I went back to them for the certificate itself and I was reffered to my LGA which is surulere so I went with the birth declaration from the hospital and all we paid was 1,500

Bcg na oga for leaving scar in fact I heard if it doesn't means it didn't work.

Iya e don tey o! How's Moyo and sis?

Still On BCG. my DD took and till today no scar. She's 11weeks. And something happened the day she took as I was keenly watching the nurse and doubted if the injection entered her body. I have reported at the center and they said if no scar till 6months it will be repeated. Is it necessary to reduce contact with people before the 6months assuming the scar did not appear? If your baby is not ill no need for medicine all they need is paracetamol Syrup.

The cord could take as long as three weeks to fall off, just keep cleaning frequently with spirit.

No need for Sitz also give your body at least ten weeks before putting on girdle.

@Amhappy Generally babies are not suppose to be exposed to a lot of people so just keep physical contact to the minimal especially people with a cold! There's a test done to see if the baby has immune to TB(heaf test) or you just wait it out till six months to see if it scar's.

Note skin type can also be a reason for a no scar Bcg not necessarily that it didn't work.

All i had to pay for was the file jacket. which types does d LG give?
thanks

@stadora sorry about d wahala d dry ogi gave u but instead of throwing it away u should have used it as ogi for yourself or even "swallow" for soup or if u r d adventurous type n u bake u might have tried to incorporate it into u baking b seen how it turns out.
Iv also heard of using corn flour as thickener in soups. In this economy nothing us to b wasted o

How will I know?? Besides you were growing tomatoes and not sharing in the times of Tomato Crisis, let's talk about that tongue Carrot is the top of the carrot, the green part, to plant it. I think lettuce is the same. I grew spring onions from the roots of it.

If I had space to do a herb garden eh...Barag you use corn flour to thicken sauces.
