Some years ago in my deep thought, I wondered how availability of water supply became a thing of the past.
I postulated in my mind that very day...that very soon, power availability will become like water...

Today, I celebrate Three solid years of uninterrupted night & day power supply here...
This is one of the most amazing things I have done with my hands...

Welcome to tomorrow...

Nice one bro... where have u been all these while

Hello Gurus, my 6 pcs of (200W @ 24V) solar panels are going to be located through 100ft cable lenght from the Epsolar MPPT 40amps CC,
What would be the best option in terms of solar panel configuration (ie series or parallel) and wire size to reduce current loss and not exceed Max MPPT input voltage of 100v on a good sunny day.

I'm sure there are people here with my same set up maybe with shorter cable distances, but please let me have your suggestions.

@Kiekie...my wahala don dey plenty o....if not for leaking pockets that 80amps outback solar charger would have healed my sores on this issue.

You need to provide this important info to enable right advice.
What is the Voc ( open circuit voltage) of the panels? Its written on the name plate of the panel

I share the same opinion with you. but it's always nice to be around to come in when necessary.
congratulations on your 3 years energy freedom.

Nah...i dropped to the more efficient 36V setup.
I'm currently planning two levels of upgrade.

1. Installation of a Meter Hub & Ethernet MeterBus Converter
2. Upgrading the batteries to Trojan grin, the ones I have now tried for 4 years.

@DMerciful......each panel has Voc 37.4V... 6 panels.
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by DMerciful(m): 1:15pm On Sep 22, 2016
My recommendation will be to connect 3 string of 2 panels in series then parallel these 3 strings so that overall Voc will be 74.8V.(ie 2*2*2). This is best configuration for your system. 2 string of 3 panels will not work because the total voltage of 112.2V will exceed the CC 100V max limit.

the baby in the house is learning how to walk with DIY installation of 300w.

configuration:
2 Tata poly panels @ 150w each
24v microtek 1600w inverter
43ft 6mm cables
2 genus 100A battery (new)
2 ipower 100A battery (new)
Roy 30A PWM cc

I plan to up grade soon. am sure kiekie will be of help as I can read a lot of praises of the giant kiekie

1. my problem is that can I combine d two batteries (sealed) since they're new. I tink they have similar c10 charging rate.

2. can I used inverter to charge (with grid) same time with my 30A pwm cc?

waiting for help from nigerian gurus.

Ok cool....just one more question, what wire size 6mm or 4mm etc do you recommend for a length of 100ft between CC and panels?
Isc is 8.80A while Imp is 8.18A on the panel.

Brand new microtek pure sine wave 900va inverter 4 sale, 37k. Cal 08117398294 for negotiation.
Reason 4 sale: owner upgraded to a 24v system n didn't bother using the 12v inverter at all.

Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by DMerciful(m): 6:29am On Sep 23, 2016
I will recommend 6mm-8mm

Hmmmn , he can manage that for now since panels aint much on PWM but i feel 10mm ought to be his least for that distance on a 24v inverter VDC system and for futuristic upgrade sake ! He can contact me if he needs 10mm×2 flex copper fire resistant armoured solar cable... Cheers

Valid points.

Rather than strip all cables to rewire when he wants to upgrade, he can just go with 10mm now which will also give him minimal loss given the distance.

This has nothing to do with the inverter voltage. 74V between the panel and CC is high enough to offer lower current flow and as such lower cable diameter. ofcourse btw the CC and batteries needs to be thick and short as possible. 8mm wire is pretty thick for 74v for a distance of 100ft

Was just going through this old post on the argument on use of bottled water vs. Distilled water. Please there are companies that bottle and sell distilled water. Use distilled water for flooded batteries for longer life. Please see product below bought here in Jos sold in 1litre containers. Treat your batteries well and they will treat you well and last a long useful life cheesy

cheesy cheesy cheesy

I remember that discussion. 'Twas a heated thing at the time. Learnt to be less vocal thereafter. I'm still very much around, just kinda quiet. But I'd rather be wrong than not learn.

Thanks for reminding me of the reason I'm here

Nope, since there will always be energy loss, mind you energy efficiency is never 100%,but you can use an mppt cc to maximize your wattage output.RE rules, one love all.
