First of all, I would quietly Set-up a secret security outfit that would quietly kidnapp all Polithiefcians and crooked business theifs.
Force them to hand over their stolen wealth or they go through severe torture everyday.
I'll use the recovered wealth to build and set-up factories and corporations to produce most of what we import such as vegetable oil, groundnut oil, Textiles, electronics, automotive spare parts, tires, households electronics, tiles, bulbs, furnitures, shoes, chicken, turkey etc. and get experienced foreigners to head this corporations in order to forestall looting by Nigerians.
This would help to diversify our economy and create jobs.
The profits would be diverted to creating more companies and each corp would be mandated to source for external market, No excuses... angry sad

Then the excesses would be sold to other countries in Africa and Asia to earn forex.

Most of the income from oil would be to sort out recurrent expenditure which would be a way of pumping money into the economy.
Then I'll start to figure out how to pay our National debt and gradually increase Funding to Agriculture and other mining business.

Mind you all the kidnapped thief's would be secretly tried and summarily executed . No story or mercy

I'll make sure Healthcare, education, security and Transportation receives most of the attention for capital investment
Nice idea but don't forget that we are still practicing democrasy. How do you intend to do this without the knowledge of people as nothing is totally secret in this country especially those things that involve these polithiefcians?

If I were elected to save Nigeria, I'll simply de.vide the country.

Reasons: the country was created based on fraud and also, nothing has worked since we gained independence till date.
Do you know what it entails to be a president and to divide a country? You will be impeached with immediate effect as this is against the constitution you pledge allegiance to. Nice submission but it's illogical.

Ade3000yrs:
To me, 99% of responses to these threads are most likely a luxury of blunder emanating from an untamed freedom of speech. What I will do, is very simple without needs for ambiguous mechanism.

When a country has been running in darkness for 56yrs with total neglect for its educational system, you should most certainly expect to get zero result has it is only in the movies and dream world that you build a castle in the air. For Solution, I will go to the root to nip the problem in the bud, as we Africans and Nigerians are overly stereo typed.

It is so bad today that when I look at An Average Nigerian Professor and PhD holder today, I see illiteracy written all over him. It is pathetic that we Nigerians abuse the essence and significance of Education. I hate it when pple address and hide themselves behind the obscurity of all their academic titles and yet no result. Nigeria is where it is today because we all play a part in the colossal mess.

All I need do is total restructuring and overhauling of Nigerian schools and academic institutions and value system and everything will come up and running like a scintilliated and electrified electricity once plunged for ages in abject darkness. Nigerian Schools, Value and Culture System is the problem.

For over 56yrs, Nigeria has only been Managing an inherited problem and if nothing is done soonest the filth will continue to bore deep down the hollow abyss right from the centre without any hope of restitution in the nearest future. As far as am concerned, an Average Nigerian Professor is highly illiterate and so far worse are his legions of academic product. Right now, I can say boldly that there is no school in Nigeria, except for National Open University (NOUN) that I know of.

Its just a matter of time, the rest of the Nigerian institution will fade out into oblivion. It is just a matter of time. And What I will do once again? It could be a fusion of Abacha's autocratic approach of socialism and Democracy mix with alot of constitutional fortifications and backings because most of us Nigerians are stoned head due to imperative value culture. Many bad eggs could be made a scape goat and sacrificial lamb, like spare the rod and spoil the child such that when the blind, deaf and dumb sense my name, he will sit up, I won't do that, instead I will employ and enforce the German and Dutch approach. A far more civilized and rational approach will do the magic. It will be so structured in a way that politics at the centre will become as obsolete as the once revered NITEL Corporation. Such that politics will be a free lance service without a monetary reward. No kobo will be paid to any politician except a worthless medal trinket for the sake of honour and free service to your country.

If am the President of Nigeria, surely no politician will earn a kobo for the service to their mother land while the law will be so fortified and structured and automated to run the country with or without any body such that only the law will be in dispensable and not any man no matter the status or charisma or academic and career portfolio.

I have to say, your point on education is on point...
an ignorant country is a dangerous country.

it wont b bad to do so o, dose guys dnt do shi shi for their constituency, it took abike dabiri ages tar the road infront of her family house.

The Constitution doesn't allow it.

What most people on this thread don't understand is that, the president doesn't have the sole power to do anything at will. For Pete's sake, it's a Democratic government and not military. There is separation of power between the president, legislators and the judiciary.

They oversee one another's activities through check and balances which make the presidency not as easy as most people here think.

The only place where all that people are saying here can work is when we have a military regime, where there would be no check and balances, but for now, this mess will continue.

I would hold all the past regimes (leaders) accountable for their past deeds by getting death penalty inserted into the constitution to take care of looters (1960-Date). This becomes a good precedent for the future generatons.
I would allow the country to be partially recolonized by the whites so that our people would truly know the true meaning of civilization. Our brains need to be 'fomatted' before we understand that politics is not about illegal acquisition of wealth but a call to serve. Don't be deceived, things are working in South Africa because of the presence of the whites. Black men are jinxed but can perform wonders under the right tutelage of the whites. Ive long ago accepted their superiority.
With all this put in place, all other things shall fall in line.

if I Adeniyi Damilare were to be elected as president of this great country in a time like this or later, below are my major point of focus:

1. I will save the nation out of recession by empowering each state that has potentials for agricultural produce for foods, stop all government parastatals' travelling across the world including myself, go into various trade relations with other countries using our numerous God's giving mineral and natural resources, use my veto power to reduce the whooping sum of monies our senators and lawmakers pocket and reduce to the minimum possible thousands the millions our government workers including the president collect as allowances because we are called to serve and not to make monies. with part of the little we are made to believe remains in the treasury, i'll empower the manufacturing sector of the country.

2. Let's forget about the stolen monies, not all can be recovered. We'll try what we can to recover some but we will not waste all the efforts we could use in generating and creating new wealth on what is already gone or lost. We will create a stringent rule with regards the monies that comes in or goes out of government covers and be accountable to the general public as to how the country's monies are being spent or gotten by providing a detailed record of the nation's income and expenditures on a monthly basis so as to carry people along in government.

3. I want to also assure the citizens of our great country Nigeria that every individual live means a lot to me as it custodian and I won't let it be tampered with by these ifidels called terrorists. If they take a soul of our innocent citizens, they will payback dearly with 10,000. I will also equip the Nigerian army with the necessary equipment to combat terrorism. I will deploy 1,000,000 foot soldiers and 1,000 airforce jets to the northeast, give an order that sambisa forest be wiped out. A rescue and attack mission will go simultaneously jst to save innocent lives.
Also, i'll compensate the families affected by the chibok issue if at all the girls truly exist.

God bless me
God bless you
God bless the federal republic of Nigeria.

Education: This system reeks of bitterness and hate. To help first of all

1) Increase salaries across and drop this level 1- 17 whatever I hear about often. not helping.

2)Give provisional admission to aspirants on the basis that if they mess the year one up, they'll be booted out to square 1. Trust me this method will produce a whole crop of serious students and finance for institutes as well.

3) Sports in school is so dead that Undertaker has hope as a dead man than it. Revive the system that produce stars like quadri, toriola, kanu nwankwo, Peter rufai, etc. This would revive our football league and parents won't need to rate sports as distraction or waste of time if they see their loved ones tryna make the family proud. The desire for success and lessons of life can be learnt by kids at this level and make them more prepared and behaved in life.

4) Any other idea that ends this quota system crap, or any idea that dethrones certificate being like heavenly light must be adopted. It is just paper and must be demote to where it belongs in the society

1. Slash salary and allowances of president and vice by 60%: president and vice president should earn like civil servants, so I will start with myself by slashing not just my monthly salary but all salaries and allowances/entitlements, including easta code abi easter codeine lol

2. Implement federalism whereby each state controls and manages her resources and remits 30% to the federal/central government which will be used to tackle national security/boundary security watch, immigration, foreign affairs, etc

3. Privatise every federal government owned asset or business such that government will only become a regulatory body and not management. This will bring efficiency among government workers, and curb corruption in government offices

4. Make sure most government handled activities are computerized such that they will be done mostly by electronic; especially cash handling to reduce corruption and bribery

5. Ban cattle grazzing and find effective ways to improve cattle rearing such that we will have more ranches for cattle herders.....and have more Nigerians go into farming by making farming lucrative and attractive using farm mechanization and improved security for Nigerian farmers

6. Implement State Policing:
every state must have their own Police.

7. Scrap state of origin: all Nigerians are equal and the same no matter their state of origin.

8. All political office or post must be made unattractive such that they will earn very meagre salary and allowances so people will stop clamoring to go into politics to make money or to fight poverty. If you want to be a millionaire, go and start a company, invent something or develop a new business idea and don't ever think about going into politics to make money because political offices and posts will earn even lesser than school principals!

9. No politician or his/her children/spouse/immediate relative will be allowed to travel out of Nigeria twice in a year the moment you are elected or appointed into office. They will submit their travel documents to a special Federal Police Team to enforce strict travel monitoring for all politicians!

10. Increase tax for the rich: if you are worth more than 1billion naira, then you will pay 35% higher tax. To reduce your tax, open more companies, farms, businesses and employ more people so that the more people you employ, the lesser the tax you will pay as a rich person.

11. Tax religious bodies: churches, mosques, shrines, juju houses, all must be registered and must pay tax to the government. The higher your revenue, the higher your tax.....to reduce your tax, build schools and make it free, open companies and employ Nigerians, then you will pay less tax as a Church or Mosque

12. Life jail for any political office holder found guilty of corruption: 35 years jail term for any corrupt practices no matter how small

13. Reduce number of senators and reps:
there will only be 36 senators and 102 (3 per state) reps, and their salary/allowance cannot exceed 1 million naira only! No senator, rep, commissioner, perm sec, etc will be allowed to travel out of Nigeria twice in a year. Same with their children, spouses, immediate relatives. So before you think of becoming a senator/rep/commissioner/etc you will think it well and know that you are only going to serve and not to make money!

Good ideas but how long will they take ??

Wow! You have the most reasonable submission on the front page but I still have these questions to ask.
1. Do you think slashing your salary by 60% bed any effect to what you are earning? Allowances are the real deal here. Cut all the allowances by 60% too (my additional suggestion).
2. Are you sure federalism, in your explanation, is the real solution? What happen to the system we are currently running? Who can you trust with your money between federal and state government? If state like Delta, Rivers and Bayelsa is owing salaries, what is the assurance they will make use of the resourses in their state very well? We have not reach that stage or let me say we've moved away from that stage and restructuring in term of amending our constitution to ensure better development should be looked at instead e.g LG can be independent of state government with the amendment of some sections in the constitution and this will bring government to the common Nigerian. (my lil submission)
3. Privatization of all sector with government as a mere regulator is not good enough. We are developing country and we can't handle everything to the hawk capitalist that's looking for a small business/ economy to feast on. Read about what happened to America when she was still in developing age. People like Dangote will buy off everything, seems more powerful than the government and will do as they wish. Do you know the price of cement now?
4. How do you intend to come up with state police? Who is going to be responsible for supply of ammunitions and fund to these police officers? The state government? How are you sure with the level of our development, these state police will not turn to a tool for politician to execute and settle political score?
4. Your submission about not allowing politicians to travel not more than two time is unrealistic. They have the right to travel. You may say government is only liable to fund official travelling not more than 2 times in a year. And subsequent ones will be from their pocket. (just my lil thought)
5. Can you tell us how you are going to reduce the number of senators and House of representative members? How will you come about the reduction in their salaries and how will you make sure viet governme post is not attractive?
Thank you!

If this present structure is to be maintained...
1. I will make all water ports in Nigeria very viable and acceessible to all. Also... Dredge the rivers to open up the landlocked areas. With this alone i have created employment directly and employment hubs indirectly. The ports will be close to every region to reduce the cost of exportation and importation. The dredging will give room to water transportation... Fishing... Less road maintenance and others.
2. I will create a tech hub in each region with fed uni of tech. We will mass produce every bright concept whether existing or not using the chinese model... Flood african market with the product.

3. Everybody can not be farmer. I will map out agricultural advantaged states and give them production quota each year with incentive to the state that meets its target. Each mapped out state will have out buyers of their produce for processing and excess for export.
4. I will introduce specialized courses from primary school in all the unity school and to be adapted to the nations curriculum. Some of the specialised subject will include programming... Software tech... And others.

4. With the legislators...a maximum age cap will be mapped out for those seeking public office while a seperate institute will be created to receive advice from elders.

Other policies will follow if and when you make me your president. For now... So many cats have been let out of the bag.
