Forbes Magazine has ranked Nigeria’s former
Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the
48th most powerful women in the world.
Okonjo-Iweala has helped Nigeria’s economy, the
largest in Africa, grow an average of 6% (per
annum) over three years.
She is credited with developing reform programs
that helped improve governmental transparency and
stabilizing the economy.
Okonjo-Iweala is the first woman to be the finance
minister and the foreign minister of the West African
country with a GDP of $502 billion. But the start of
the year has been difficult for Nigeria. The country
voted in former general Muhammadu Buhari as
president, ousting long-time President Goodluck
Jonathan, with the hope he will help fight against the
local terrorist group Boko Haram.
The Harvard- and M.I.T.-trained Okonjo-Iweala
spent 21 years as a development economist at the
World Bank.
Since the inception of the Forbes top 100 most
powerful women in the world in 2004, a
number of Nigerians have made the enviable and
globally acclaimed Forbes ranking in different
categories. Notable among these are Nigerian
billionaires Aliko Dangote and Folorunsho Alakija as
well as Nigeria’s immediate past Minister of
Agriculture and freshly elected President of the
African Development Bank.

This year, Okonjo-Iweala is ranked 48th on the
Forbes list of the world’s most influential women,
ahead of World Health Organisation (WHO)’s
Director General Margaret Chan, ranked 62nd and
Liberian President, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf
at 96th position, among many others.
Ngozi Okonjo Iweala shares this rare honour with
global icons such as US Presidential Candidate and
former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, ranked
number 2 and German Chancellor, Angela Merkel
who is ranked as the most powerful woman in the
world.

Useless woman who plunged Nigeria's economy into recession by supervising thievery and massive looting during her reign of voodoo economic policies.

God bless kemi Adeosun for trying hard to revive the economy
