patches689:There's political pressure to acquire systems from non of "our traditional suppliers". We need another Jan Smuts or Mbeki type UK or western "friendly" president. I'm doubtful they'll win the contract competing with international suppliers who can offer a lot of offsets. Hoping for a "French vessel". 1 Like |

Henry240: That 65million was not the unit cost and included spareas, simulatorers and a host of things. Is the china deal including a logstcal support deal, or will they have to buy the parts in china and have a china tech install it. |

giles14: It's amazing that people claim that South African weapons were transferred from Israel or US. So tell me, which country made something similar to these? Now tell me, which country had something like the: - Ratel, a mine protected IFV/ tank destroyer? - Rooikat, a highly mobile long range recon and tank destroyer? - Buffel? - Casppir? - Mamba APC? - Nyala? - Infezi, MRAP ambulance? - G5 artillery? - G6 howitzer on its mine protected platform? - NTW 20? Those are just few.. |

Transparency is still an issue with WMF even when they've collapsed it for some reason a SAAF Oryx made it into the news clip that has nothing to do with it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jc1yINhg4sM |

ActivateKruger: Not that big a deal. I mean the germans are there, there is a britsh ship docked there, fish trawlers have docked there and so have private tugs and though I worry about china to this deal is not that big a deal for me. They been shown the civilian dock yard not the military side of things. Not like they getting a tour of ops room and they not in silver mine. |

andrewza: No chief. All sources i've seen quote the Gripen at 65million a unit doesn't include spares/accessories. The Gripen C/D costs more than the MIG-35, a fighter that comes with AESA, advanced Data-link, more powerful engines, lot more hard-points. I feel for a light fighter, the Gripen should be at most $30 million a unit. The Namibians haven't signed a contract for the J-10 yet, so we cannot say for sure. 2 Likes |

giles14: Brazil's deal is expensive because it is for the latest Gripen which is a whole generation ahead. It also includes funds for the development of the "sea-gripen" for their carrier. The fact that people are willing to pay so much for the Gripen shows that it is not over-rated. 1 Like |

patches689:I'll go got the F35 instead just that it won't be sold to an African country. Gripen is overrated. It's sure a good aircraft but the price tag is too high. |

tdayof: The same F-35 that has been riddled with problems since its first flight. One was even on fire at around midday on Friday at the Air Force Base at Idaho. I still feel the F-16 is the most successful fighter program of the USAF. 1 Like |

Souljaboi1:The F35 has issues but still remain capable. The F22 is my favorite and I still consider it the best. If Nigeria operates the F35, we will consider the problem as minor but for the American they need something perfect. Earlier this year, Pentagon Press Secretary George Little, said that an IRIAF (Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force) F-4 Phantom combat plane attempted to intercept a U.S. MQ-1 drone flying in international airspace off Iran. |

tdayof: There are still unknown things about what the US calls stealth . I think it a careful mix of many technologies working simultaneously and controlled by computers. It is not just passive coating and masking of IR emissions alone. It is a soup with many ingredients |
