FOR throwing his weight behind the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, over a major policy disagreement with the Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun, on interest rate, former Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Rowland Owie, has asked the Emir of Kano, His Royal Highness, Muhammadu Sanusi, to abdicate the throne and go into politics. According to Senator Owie, the Emir of Kano should emulate dignified and respectable emirs like the Emir of Dutse and stop playing with national issues in Nigeria. In a statement made available to Sunday Vanguard yesterday, Senator Owie, who is also a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP said, “I urge the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi, to stop playing to gallery with national issues in Nigeria and emulate dignified and respectable emirs like the Emir of Dutse. “As a grade one Traditional Ruler from the north, he should have direct access to President Muhammadu Buhari to advise him instead of doing it in the media. The Emir should know that he is no longer the CBN governor. “He should behave as a father traditional ruler now or abdicate the throne and go into politics.” It would be recalled that the Emir of Kano, His Highness Muhammadu Sanusi, had at the launch of Afrinvest Nigerian Banking Reports, 2016, threw his weight behind the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, over a major policy disagreement with the Finance Minister on interest rate. According to the Emir, if the MPR was lowered even by 200 bases points, it would not increase credit from banks into the economy as envisaged because of other constraining factors, adding that a lower MPR would imply lower yields on money market instruments which would be a disincentive to investments in the money markets, especially in the fixed income security segment, and ultimately put a restraint on foreign portfolio investment inflows, adding that a lower MPR would fuel inflation further, a situation which was already high. Shut up Senator .... Sanusi that's even against some of these governments policies openly even when he knows that Buhari is a fulani Muslim like him.... Lamido Sanusi fears no one and always speak the truth.... Every Nigerian has the right to speak... Where has the Quietness of our religious and traditional leaders led us to since the creation of Nigeria We now have religious and traditional leaders who keep quiet because they are under the pockets of the executive who give them stipends for thier upkeep Shutup , Sharrap and Sharrap 6 Likes 1 Share |

I am with owie on this. Sanusi should go into politics instead of his carefully timed public speeches. As an ex-CBN governor he is a statesman and has access to the presidency. How come People like SLS and Soludo who claim to know the way out of our economic woes never take a stance when needed but wait until the govt makes move then they criticize from their comfort? It is obvious these men are being political. 1 Like |

allow Sanusi to talk oh, he still has his freedom of speech and as a Nigerian his free to say his mind when he believes things ain't done the right way. You can't shut him up cause you don't like what he says |

Criticism is welcome in a democratic society, if what he is saying happens to be the truth, so be it |

Boleyndynasty2:If SLS truly understands the economy and has the key to our problems why does he wait for govt to make policies before advicing. Here is a man under whose watch as CBN govt BDCs grew astronomically. Nigeria spent $217B defending the Naira between 2012 and 2014. Why didn't he raise alarm? |

When your policy makers are busy squabbling over budget padding leaks, is it not better you shut up and thank God for whichever voice of reason does the job of reaching government with sound counsel, even if they would not want to rub shoulders with scores of scheming aides before doing so? Must everybody go in for secret closed-door meetings?! So, Wole Soyinka, Pat Utomi, FEMI Falana, Ohaneze Ndigbo etc also have to seek private audience before they advise on issues concerning us all?! Leave the man alone and go and thank God for at least making up for your lack of having a voice worthy of yet commanding public attention or directing public opinion instead of all these e-bickering! |

Emir Sanusi still has the right to air his views regardless of his position in the society. Before he became an Emir, Sanusi was known as a man who did not mince his words. He obviously has not changed. |

SamuelAnyawu: Sanusi is not happy with buhari just because of Kwankwaso. You think this people fight for the masses course The answer is NO. most of the elite in the north don't like buhari He's only loved by the masses He blocked them from looting That's Buhari’s crime to all the elites & there dependants 1 Like |

sarrki:And you're not aware of the ongoing looting in the Buhari's government? Where are all the recovery monies thatthis government said it has recovered that it is now planning to sell off our national assets to fund a budget whose year is almost ending? |

Paperwhite:are you real bros? Stop being blinded by outlook. SLS is always advicing when things, according to him, have gond wrong. Why advice after the 'damage'? Is that how he was governing CBN as governor? |
