If you engage in the following movement art such as martial arts tricking, free running, parkour, gymnastics and b-boying then this is a thread for you.

This thread intends to bring together Nigerians, africans and pple in other parts of the world/continent that practice and train the above stated movements or are interested in learning any of them movements.

This thread would also enable us share help tips, training tips, pictures and videos on any of the movement art.

Please ideas and experiences with any of the movement arts are expected from every and anyone.

You don't need to be a martial artist to learn martial arts tricking, although martial arts helps but you don't need really need it to learn to trick.

its been tough,,just started training last year December,,though i've always been flexible

i also have the ability to bend and fold,,but i still lack balance (hand balance)

nice one sharon I like that standing split think its called the needle correct me if am wrong, and as for your hand balance you can start with the wall,
Exercise one

Face the wall keeping a distance, then put your hands on the floor ensure ur hands are close to the wall but not to close then throw your legs one after the other with one going up and the other coming to meet it when the legs are on the wall with ur hands on the ground maintain that position for some seconds to build necessary arm strength. Ensure also that ur hands are straight, stiffen your butts and point your toes.

Exercise Two

Hold push up position for some seconds

Then lower yourself from the push up position and hold that low push up position for some seconds

This will build the necessary arm and shoulder strength for your handstands

Note: with time you can increase the seconds to minutes to build more arm strength.

Please state the time and days you train at the stadium so that others will be informed.

snrr are you into any sports or any form of movement?? If you are, then it will be a good one for you to tell us.

You can learn to split in one month or even in 6months depending on how flexible you are or depending on how fast you scale through your progressions.

Please bear in mind that you need patience, determination, focus and endurance to get your splits.

Also note that there are 2 kinds of splits the straddle split and side split. You didn't state which you want to learn. But the exercises below will prep your flexibility up for the splits.

Splits involve your thighs, hips, knees and hamstrings so I will advice you trying getting them flexible before trying out your splits.

Do remember to warm up before trying the splits so as to enable ur nerves relax and enhance blood flow.

The following exercises will help you with your hamstrings, knees, hips and thighs.

1. Touch your toes with your hamstrings and legs striaght..this is a good hamstring exercise.
2. Sumo squat..sit in air like your riding a horse with legs apart then go down till u get to your lowest..this will help your thighs, hips and knees
3. Roll ur waist clock wise and anti clock wise
4. The back bend for your back and hips.

I will try to put up pictures in due time.

Try the above exercises at least you will b on ur way to achieveing the splits.

sharoniah u are a contortionist and you are amongest the 1percent of the worlds population that can achieve that skill. Where u born naturally flexible or you stretched your way into becoming flexible.

Please share with the house your stretching drills.

Martial arts tricking or xtreme martial arts or tricking as it is often called is an art that involves the combination of kicks from various martial arts, twist and flips from gymnastics and some ground movements from bboying.

Those who practice martial arts tricking are called trickers. Tricking is still an underground sports and people learn to trick either in there backyards, gyms or when they have gatherings with other trickers. Some trickers are also self thought thanks to youtube.

Tricking have kicking moves gotten from wushu, taekwondo, karate and capoeira.

As a tricker you have to be very creative in combining the arrays of kicks, flips and twists.
You should be able to sync your moves together to achieve fluidity and beauty as well as inspire other trickers or pple watching.

Beginner tricking moves are
- Side kick
-jumping side kick
- front kick
-round house kick
-spining back kick
- Tornado kick
-jumping 360 round
-Jumping 360 crescent kick
- hand stand
-cartwheel
-front hand spring
- back hand spring

OK, am here, tricker to the core, flips twists aaand lip kick, my flex is on average par, nothing shocked like the above am seeing lol.

Damn girl you're flexible shocked Wow, and here I am thinking I'm very flexible when I can't even do that. Keep it up, you're the first person I've seen who's interested in gymnastics in this country. Which one are you more interested in though? Artistic gymnastics or Rhythmic gymnastics?

I love gymnastics.. As a child, I remember doing some of those things easily, the splits, the cartwheels, etc. But I forgot all about that when I entered boarding school. Some years back I came across a movie, "Make It or Break It", I fell in love with gymnastics all over again, but then I had already grown fat and stiff.
I tried to do some of those things and found them extremely difficult, but i wasn't going to give up to started practicing them in my spare time. With time, I started loosening up. Even with my weight and everything, I can still manage to do somethings and I'm really glad about it. Here are some pictures.. I'm not as flexible as Sharoniah but I try sha cheesy cheesy cheesy

you may not be as flexible but you can be flexible to the point u desire...all you need is hardwork. I like your pics they are nice. what are your stretch routines like please do share with the house.

I don't have a routine, I'm kinda always busy with work and all. I only have the weekends free so that's when I do some stretching. If only I had time... embarassed

You hear people say they love handstands, splits, tumbling, floor routines or your fluidity but when it comes to working the talk with training it becomes a different balk game.

I will find out time to post my pic off a pancake press till then.

Wow! The last two pictures require a lot of arm strength and great balance, I've been trying to master a handstand but I don't have good balance. How did you achieve this??
