On Tuesday, September 27, Nigeria’s House of Representatives approved the establishment of state police in the 36 states of the country and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
According to Vanguard, the approval of state police was contained in a bill seeking to alter Section 214 of the constitution to provide for establishment of state and community police in the country which passed second reading in the House.
The Bill also seeks to replace the word “force” with “service” in its nomenclature.
The sponsor of the bill, Dada Awoyele, speaking in his lead debate, said that there was urgent need for an amendment to the 1999 Constitution to allow the government establishment of a state police in all the states.

Police okay mental test for Lagos, Ogun officers

The Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos State, has concluded plans to carry out a mental test for policemen carrying firearms within the zone, which covers Lagos and Ogun states.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2, Abdulmajid Ali, who said this, noted that the test was to maintain standards in the handling of arms, and police activities in the states.

Ali, who received the police medical team from Abuja, said the purpose of the visit was to perfect arrangements for the mental test exercise.

He emphasised that the test would assist in promoting principles of people-oriented policing as directed by the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.

“Units such as the Police Mobile Force and the Special Anti-Robbery Squads are to attend a workshop which will mark the beginning of the medical exercise,” he added.

The medical team, which comprised of experts and trained psychiatrists from the police medical department and Melville Healthcare Centre, Abuja, was led by the AIG Medical, Stella Akintade.

I can't imagine the NPF (Nigeria Police Force) been changed to NPS ( Nigeria Police Service) ..I hope they will be a change in salaries, allowances and total package...wardrobe allowance just like the state security service.

even though every info are still speculations, i heard from an unconfirmed source that, psc re holding meetings upon meetings on maybe they should let go of interview and shortlist those that will undergo medicals from which the needed ones will be selected finally for appointments..... which might somehow be in tandem with the above info

asp's will go for zonal interviews/screening. the successful ones will proceed to force head quarters for final interview/screenings (screening includes medicals)
