Gov Peter Obi quotes that set the internet on fire...

"To you young people, Take Back your Country...it is your future they are toying with". - Peter Obi

"I reduced my convoy to 5 vehicles and you cannot buy fuel unless I am in the car".- Peter Obi

"If I sleep in a hotel and have to pay N250k a night, I will be awake all night...feeling like I was robbed". - Peter Obi

"You know there are many big men in Anambra state, so when they want to see me, I say to them I will come to you instead".- Peter Obi

"We handed schools back to Churches and by 2013, we were number one in WAEC."- Peter Obi

"I beg you to participate more in politics, the society we help them abuse today will take its revenge tomorrow".- Peter Obi

"The only way out of recession is to spend for growth. You can only spend for growth either from savings or from borrowing.
The question is: what are you borrowing for?
Are you borrowing for consumption or for production?
When you borrow for consumption, you are heading for disaster."

-- Peter Obi.

" I had to stop the Presidential lodge in Anambra... A project awarded at 400million. I had to close down state house in lagos and Abuja... Because I felt we dont need it.... Even when other states had."

" They said President Obasanjo is coming... I went to borrow the kind of cars they wanted... Instead of spending millions... From a neigbouring state."

"I requested Obasanjo to spend the nights in my lodge Since they said he must sleep over... I asked my wife to pack out of my bedroom... We went opposite to lodge in a hotel (name mentioned) for the week, we paid N30,000 instead of N100,000."

"I used the 150million for 2 bullet proof cars to buy almost 50 Peugeot cars at 3 million each.. gave 17 to JUDGES and 18 to permanent Secretaries (because i discovered they did not have cars) and kept 10 for govt house... which I used as Governor... I did not use bullet proof cars as Governor."

"They said we should attend world Igbo Congress in U. S.... That the budget WAS cut from 40 to 32million.... I asked them why... That only one person should go and come and tell us what was discussed."

"Instead of paying 30,000 for each security personnel (about 30) per night in Abuja, I told IG to give me Police whenever am in Abuja....I travel alone... Ppl complained.... The 15 drivers lodged in Abuja state house...who come to airport to cause confusion, i asked to go, kept only 3. The others to go back to Akwa or look for job... I asked the cook to go back to Akwa instead of giving him 30,000 per plate."

"When Governors lodge and Govt house was burnt before I came... With budget of 400million and 300 million, I repaired them for 42 million and 80million respectively. They wanted to impeach me that I did not spend by due process... Following the awarded Contracts and contractor.... I saw a table.. That my predecessor used, they said its old... I asked them to renovate it... That all i needed was a table to write as Governor... "

" So so so I was able to save money and made sure that ANAMBRA HAS THE BEST ROAD NETWORK THAN ANY OTHER STATE IN NIGERIA....."

♡♡♡♡♤♤♤♤ PETER OBI....WORDS ON MARBLE! "

The former Governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi made some staggering revelations on how most states are run.

He made this revelation while speaking at The Platform, a program organised by Covenant Christian Center.

The former Governor also called on Nigerians to stop celebrating criminality, adding that there is enough money for development in Nigeria.

Obi, who spoke on the topic: Cutting cost in governance, said he saved over N75b for Anambra state.

Obi said he saved $50m and N7b in Access bank, $55m and N10b in Fidelity bank, and $155.4m in Diamond bank.

According to him, the over-bloated spending habit of most governors is what is causing poverty.

Obi also added that the states can still function on their income and still save money.

The former Governor called on Nigerians to question the commitments of the leaders who they voted into office.

He also slammed religious leaders for not speaking up against corruption, especially when they know the person has not viable source of income.

Speaking on calls to borrow money to boost the economy, Obi said “There is nothing wrong with borrowing. The crisis we are facing is that we do not know what we are using the money we are borrowing for.”

Highlighting ways on how Governors can save money, he said:

1. Governors spend N600 - N800b to run their office and sponsor their aides.

2. Initiate competitive procurement.

3. Do away with unconstitutional office of the first lady which is run with N2b.

4. Reduce Governor’s cars to 2, instead of 6 bullet-proof cars.

5. Reduce Govt house jeeps instead of 25 jeeps.

He revealed to the audience that it used to cost him and his contingent, 10m per trip to Abuja when he travels.

Obi said he had to cut down the expenses, because he found out that over 30 people who had nothing to do in Abuja were going with him.

"When Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo wanted to come to Anambra state, they were supposed to used N500m to construct a presidential lodge, but I asked the President to sleep in my house through-out his stay," he said.

Finally, the former Governor asked Nigerian youths to take back their future by joining politics.

Peter Obi is a recipient of numerous national awards and recognition as a result of his exemplary tenure as governor.

If these are true then he must be very frugal. However am baffled, why did he support a rather wasteful Jonathan Goodluck that laid the foundation for the current recession?
I know he is a learned fellow, versed in financial matters, while on earth did he decide to support GEJ considering his wastefulness.
One thing I've come to learn about educated elites is their penchant to become honorary advisers when they leave government. I thought Okonjo Iweala would for instance come out to explain to Nigerians how she presided over an economy that received so much oil income that toward the end was already borrowing to finance salary of workers.
You see why Nigeria baffles me!!!

The guy was so on point. In a nutshell instead of looking for money to borrow let's cut costs of administering governance. Peter Obi believes we can save 1 trillion naira that way

Nothing is wrong with borrowing but the use to which funds are put! America is the most indebted nation in the world and the most advanced! The propaganda about our income under GeJ and waste is lame!

One of the things he pinpointed that went off the radar is that this government would be borrowing 4.4 trillion naira this year alone to finance it's budget.Question is what would that money be used for. It is the highest budget deficit in the history of Nigeria. The deficit alone is bigger than some Previous budgets.

It baffles me that people still blame last administration on our present predicament, now tell me, is last administration that is making it mandatory that my money sent from abroad should be converted and paid in the local currency at unjustified exchange rate, hence making it difficult for foreign currency to come into the country?
it just like an able young man blaming his misfortune on his father Instead of working hard as his mates are doing.
governance is. continuous process there is no amount of money that is too big to be spent overnight.
At first, they told us that the refineries are almost 90% completed, up till now nothing, no wage increase, no money, nothing to hold hand and they are still blaming the pat administration. what will you be remembered for?

Peter Obi for President2018, or atleast vice.

We need men like him in government. I just checked out his profile and noted that it's comparable to that of okonji-iweala

I always say that what Nigeria needs is economists in leadership positions, instead of zoologists and past dictators whom have little to no management skills and knowledge. Really what sort of change are they going to introduce.

The good thing about this speech was that he did all without a paper as guide. . .everything off his head. . .and they were practical ways to cut down cost of governance.

"I have never watched/been to this event. I was only asked to come and deliver a lecture on cutting down cost of governance. When I came here, I didn't know what The Platform was a place where politicians were slaughtered" - Peter Obi. cheesy (He should visit Nairaland wink)

The Platform rating will skyrocket and people will want to see those who CCC will bring next year. . .

Can you remember that prior to GEJ's election loss, that he was not in good terms with then Gov Rotimi Amaechi and his faction in the Nigerian Governors Form. They wanted certain amount of money from the excess crude reserve to be shared to the states and other interests. Okonjo- Iweala's crime in Nigeria today is that she was against anything like that but rather opted that we needed the money in other ways.

As soon as the money was shared, they looted the money. Most of the governors came out with some lofty projects and billions of naira disappeared, like the case of Osun state with her then laudable 'opon imo' project.

Remember, when Mr Peter Obi left office as a governor, GEJ retained him in his then economic team because the mind is sound. GEJ was a lecturer but a carear politician, he rose through the ranks. Mr Peter Obi came from the private sector and gave the midas touch to Anambra state and since then, Anambra never remained the same. He just told us how he did it.

Let us look at ourselves today. We are experiencing a severe economic depression, what has the government done to change the trend instead of looking for more things to sell. Mr Peter Obi just gave us another option, we need to sort out our priorities and know where to spend less.

I think Nigeria needs the Anambra scenario. It is real out there now, men are turning in very hungry and the government is just trading blames. The youths need to take their stand and determine the kind of Nigeria they want.

Watched the Four videos on YouTube and i must say i am impressed. What Peter said is what we need but i must be quick to caution us not to think saintly of the man. He did quite well in Anambra state as regards salary payment, road networking and education but also did quite poorly in the area of quality infrastructure. Obi is the kind of man you'd want to take his messages serious but be wary of handling certain tasks to man. In short, Obi is a more intelligent version of buhari. Freeglobe will say better

According to Obi, Anambra has the best road network in Nigeria. I can't say if i agree with this or not cos I've not travelled the whole of Nigeria. But isn't it shameful that commuters in this state with the best road network find it very hard to travel from Onitsha to Enugu on a road that is perhaps the most important in the state? Some will shout federal road, but obi couldn't do anything about that road by his virtue of being very close to the president for years. So shameful. Even Obi is not worth any trust

Funny how all these rejected, useless, corrupt and incompetent losers developed half backed common sense now, but had non and developed zero common sense when they were part of the same crooked and corrupt system and bad management responsible for our problems today....

Where was he when his friend jona was borrowing hundreds of billions to pay workers salary and to loot and share?

Where was he when jona was was borrowing money for projects they later abandoned all over the country?

You really can not take these clowns seriously..

GEJ borrowed to pay only April salaries cos 2014 budget expired March.
Any wonder why they didn't borrow to pay on May? It's because it was in the budget.

Go to YouTube, Peter Obi has been speaking same things even while in power.

He also didn't owe salaries, Cleared pensions of past administrations, never borrowed but instead lent to your states. What else ? did the federal road, Awka Onitsha up to Umunya.
Finally, he left 75billion naira as excess.

What a load of rubbish..

Nigerian govt borrowing billions to pay salaries – Okonjo-Iweala

In the face of dwindling oil revenues, Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, said the Federal Government has borrowed about N473billion to pay salaries and fund the 2015 budget.

http://www.premiumtimesng.com/business/182543-nigerian-govt-borrowing-billions-to-pay-salaries-okonjo-iweala.html

The useless and incompetent okonjo woman borrowed to pay salary and fund budgets till her last day in office and till the same month they handed over power in May 2015..

If she was so good a finance minister and economic coordinator, why was she borrowing hundreds of billions to pay salaries and to fund budgets?

If she was so good a finance minister, why did she introduce austerity measures back in 2014 when oil was selling for $80?

If she was so good a finance minister and economic coordinator, why was she borrowing hundreds of billions in 2012 and 2013 when oil was selling for $105 per barrel..?

If she was so good a finance minister and economic coordinator, why was she unable to save or rainy day or diversify our economy when in fact Nigerian earned the largest amount of revenue in history under her watch?

You really need to confine your ignorant rubbish to your ipob kind...
