sometimes Nollywood sucksssss.............

Sometimes?
They suck more times than not.

Nollywood makes you suspect your neighbour, your uncle and aunt, your mother in law.
Nollywood tells you everyone is out to get YOU.
I understand that we are supposed to be patriotic and support local content but in the best part of a decade only a handful of nollywood content is decent.

I think I see some iotas of truth in what this lady is saying. Let our nollywood at least think out side primitive filming techniques. I am not saying completely for now but let them film that, we are not bad as widely seen or read by white folks on TV.

Honestly, I don't watch Nigeria movies to because of some things portrayed by d movies.

American inventist always got ideas on what is next to invent from some movies hollyhood filmed because, they make us to believe this things exist meanwhile it does not. And after that, the inventors pick up the task and start researching on it.

Let Nigeria film be scholar in nature, fiction and lot more.
Though I sensed problem, we nigerians especially some, sees everything as business and not as values to the societies and d rest of the world.

Secondly, govt should also help.

I will continue to say this; Nigerians are creative, wise, Intelligent, scholar etc.
I love Nigerians
I respect them.

Actually very true.

While Nollywood has made some actors popular/famous and rich, it has also worsened our reputation throughout Africa.

A large percentage of Africans actually believe what they see in our films.

They believe they mirror our society closely. Even Africans living in the West believe that. I hear it firsthand often. shocked

She is absolutely correct in all her points. I am a Christian but I must confess that the wickedness among Christians is unimaginable.

That part when she said native doctors are opening churches everywhere is incontrovertible.

you still don't picture what she's saying?

you as a Nigerian, what exactly can you point to as your valued culture.

I thought we're youths and we're suppose to be innovative with our reasoning.

look around you today, how many of your friends, families, even you yourself or neighbours still goes to native doctors. or how many native doctors are you seeing around.

people don't simply do this things and we as the current generation is suppose to modernise our cultural values and promote them,

it's really painful seeing how gullible we Africans are with religion.

we don carry Christianity for head pass the Europeans wey bring am. Islam nko we don dey top.

look at China and India are they not prosperous even with their preserved culture? watch their festivals on their channels you'll be proud of being part of this earth with how they've computerised everything
ask yourself where we are today with the religion.

I'm not against any religion o as I'm a Christian myself but pls the truth be told we too carry am for head.

we now portrayed our culture to the world as EVIL

Drama represents life. It portrays a people"s way of life. It acts as a mirror through which the individual can view his or her own reflection. Furthermore, drama exposes societal ills with a view to correcting same. Cultural value is dynamic. And the dramatist has a duty of expressing the reality and not just some idealistic fragments.
And most importantly: DRAMA IS SUPPOSE TO SELL.

Bro it seems you don't understand me

I'm an Africa man and I'm suppose to value my culture... I'm saying Nollywood(especially the Ibo movies) is portraying our culture negatively to the world... or are you saying everything about our culture is EVIL?

as far as I'm concern there are suppose to be national cultural day where we see different cultures of different ethic groups,

carnivals where our cultures are portrayed and filmed to the world

documentary that shows us our historical and cultural values

and movies that promotes our cultures

I like ur submission.......
It shows we have forward thinkers in our society.........
There's no doubt that our movie industry needs serious rebranding......
They can help in improving the way our people think n change there perspective towards controversial issue in the society.
Everything should not be about money, thus recycling boring n monotonous script over n over again.
They should act as pacesetters.......
At least that's what it's called......acting
How about promoting fair treatment of women in their movies since most Nigerian men absolutely has no idea how to do just that......

Nollywood's movie can be quite ridiculous at times, but dear brother, It clearly showed that you doesn't read and write that much. You need to brush up on history—the facts. Christianity is an adopted religion in Rome back then and it wasn't a religion founded there. Just try and read. It's imperative you do.

I see Nollywood producers as illiterates who do not understand the ethics of movie production. I prefer to watch tom and nerry cartoons or cartoon network than waste my time watching d useless Nollywood movies. All they do is to expose how evil ibo culture is. Kanywold is better than Nollywood. Ghanian movies is more professional than Nollywood.

so why does most if not all of our movies portrays our cultures as wickedness or isn't what you were supporting when you dismissed the lady's write up?

before religion came, we were surviving and living fine

they were good herbalist and bad one, and even in the modern day there are bad pastor's and good pastors too, so why do we believe anything herbalist or traditional people are evil

why can't we modernise this things and promote them

A few days ago I saw a thread showing a mentally ill woman beaten up and with a swollen face (she couldn't even opne her eyes anymore) because some people actually believed she was a witch.

Some time ago I saw a thread about a boy (age 3 or 4) who was deserted by his own family because they believed he had evil powers or something like that (a Swedish woman saved the boy from the dangers of the street).

I don't think Nollywood is the problem here. The reality is.

She is 100% right.

But naija, we still have a very long way to go.

Nigerians are more of brainwashed people.

Can u imagine what some people are commenting?

No wonder our economy is in this kinda mess.

We are always brainwashed, politically, religiously, ethnically, infact in all aspect of life, we are always happy to be brainwashed, because we just love to hear what we want to hear, we hate hearing the truth.

In my kindred, no matter how evil u think u are, u can not do anything bad to anyone in the kindred, because the deity of the kindred will just strike u dead once.

We can never vote for a man who told us that we need to work hard and together as people to make our state great, pay our taxes and always hold the govt accountable @ all times, but refused to share money during campaigns because there is no hope of recovering what he spent if he does not steal govt funds when elected,

But will be fast to vote for that man that will tell us that he will turn naija into dubai over night, that education and health care will be free, even when it is obvious that the money to fund these projects no dey, as long as he dashes us money during campaign, no problems.

In the churches, we still thrive in evil practices and enemity, a roman catholic member can not marry an Anglican, an Anglican school cannot employ a roman catholic member who is more qualified, a pentecostal member see's a mountain on fire member as over righteous, but we claim to worship the same God.

A pastor will deprive u from working hard to earn ur money, instead he admonished u to keep fasting 6-6, and @ the end of the day, sks u to sow seed, pay tithe and all those nonsense money wey u no get oh, @ the end of the day, u walk on the scorching sun while the pastor goes with a range rover sport bought with ur money and if any one try to bring ur senses back, he is considered a devil simply because ur brother to u so.

U lived a promiscuous life, got HIV, but kinda repented, only for ur pastor to tell u that ur predicaments in life is your uncles doing, and start seeing ur uncle as evil, but u forgot that HIV is not spiritually transmitted.

My brothers let us be wise.

Successful men in naija today, always do the right thing despite their religious affiliations, got to politics, u see them, Christians, Muslims, hausa, igbo, yoruba, teaming together to make a lot of money, but u will be here killing urself.

most nollywood movies are morally driven. It is often a clash between forces of good and that of evil. The good sometimes represented by a Christian pastor, whereas,, the evil man could be represented a witch doctor or even a fake pastor. The sentiment here is: why not make the native doctor a good guy? Why always depicting them fetish? That is a question for the next script writer. However, we should concentrate more on the message rather than the form and structure. And the pervading message in most of the movies is: being good has positive rewards. Being wicked has negative rewards. The choice is ours.
