Lagos as a former federal capital territory deserves a special status for the purpose of revenue sharing in order to manage the huge challenges that was inherited from the relocation of the country's capital. This is in line with best practises all over the world. But unfortunately, tribalism, hatred and outright jealousy will not allow the law makers take the right decision.
Calabar should also be granted a percentage ryt?

Bonn in Germany till tomorrow has a special status due to it being d former capital of west Germany before both east and west were merged and Berlin was voted to be the capital. Bonn is one of d few cities in Germany still referred to as a federal city and dey still get special treatment for being a former federal capital.

That is how things are done in most civilised country. You don't just take away d capital from a city without granting privileges to that city. So if Lagos calabar and lokoja qualify for being past capitals, I don't see y dey can't all get it.
first and foremost Germany practises fiscal federalism while we don't..it is the agreed % of tax to the center that is used for that bonn scenario

Lmao.....

No state in Nigeria deserves special status. True fiscal federalism should be practiced. If anything it is the SS that deserves special status cuz it feeds the entire country.

why dont tinubu just move for true federalism

why
Because he is a greedy son of a bittch who only cares about how his burdillion south-west empire fares.
He knows angling for true federalism would put in the cross-hairs of northern god-fathers who would decimate him politically, so he doesn't want to rock the boat.
If PDP takes over anytime in the future, you would see him shouting for true federalism again.

Why don't you list these specific "huge challenges that was inherited from the relocation of the country's capital." so they can be compared with the inherited ADVANTAGES of the capital city status for over eight decades?
Moreover you should factor how the capital city status of about 80 years created the BASIS for the state's capacity to have its huge IGR of almost N30 billion that no other state generates.
you nailed it bro!

Calabar and Lokoja were capitals pre-Nigeria. Calabar especially was only an administrative HQ for the Southern Nigeria colony. You can't compare either of these cities to Lagos. Not then and certainly not now.

The people in calabar, looks and every corner of Nigeria troop to Lagos for survival and not to Calabar, looks or even FTC.

Lagos state is the smallest state and it shoulders Nigeria's problems across the board, they stretches infrastructures and social amenities that the state have to maintain endlessly, more schools, more health facilities, more on roada, bridges and transportation and so on.

Lagos is a productive state while abuja is non productive, FTC is a place where people sit around to consume 80% of our budget as recurrent expenditure and still contributes nothing in terms of GDP.

You would think these thoughtless people are not short-sighted enough to deny their own golden goose that lays the wings, the same state responsible for their own growth and productivity and even largest infustrial output.

Sane and progressive countries do everything under the sun to support their commercial capitals because they are vital to their future and economic well being, but not in backward countries like Nigeria.

They obviously though they denied Lagos, but they actually denied themselves and Nigeria as a country.

What form of special treatment of former capital is best practice?
They give them a % of Germany's revenue?

The earlier all Nigerian cities start generating their own revenue the better for you and I.
Sharing revenue is no best practice anywhere except Nigeria.

The the Federal government centralisation of Seaports, Airport and Banking/Finance industry are the reasons why people are coming to lagos.

If other seaports and Airports from Ondo to Calaba are giving the same leverage as Lagos, Lagos population will reduce .

@seunmsg well that was old be hard to effectively establish. Cos u see the producer and consumer networks of commerce and innovation in Lagos are the product of Lagos centric policies of the British and early Nigerian federal government. The harbor was developed to be a source of revenue (duties there were one of the highest globally), the coastal location was an ideal springboard for advancement into the interior and the already developing commercial networks -initially Brazil/Portuguese oriented- and cosmopolitan population (returnees, overseas traders etc) made it a suitable and must say a quite lovely base for the 'EUropean' to locate his operations, commercial and colonial.

That of the early Nigerian govt rests on the fact that the port was a major source of revenue and NPC and NCNC didn't think leaving it to AG would make any sense politically. Mind you that over years the effect of being the center of everything military economic political and administrative is cumulative. The migrations, innovation, industry , ideas in circulation blah blah blah all turn out to make it a behemoth. So it's not really a thing of independent singular effort from anyone one person or group.

Govt. attention started to shift after the major source of revenue changed to oil exports. And I can see why lagosians can be mad at the FG ; neglect and poor urban planning being a few reasons. Esp when the Abuja project started gaining speed as relocation became only a matter of time.

However it's tough to prove that Lagos is Lagos because of some inherent quality it possesses. No city can actually claim that. It's always a product of forces acting from beyond its horizons. Btw that's actually a good thing. Look at sapele and Burutu today ....

The reason Lagos is like that is because it's a commercial city. No special benefit from fg. What would u then say abt fct having a ministry?

I think Adadu's reaction was due to the way the presenter made his case. What you do is as important as how you do it. Most of these law makers already envy and despise Lagos state for attempting to colonize their states. Coupled with contributing massively to yearly revenue, whats not to hate?? The guy should have been wiser but typical Yoruba elite with foolish pride, what else do we expect.

Is there a grand conspiracy for commercial activities not to be replicated in Warri, Uyo, Eket, Calabar, Lokoja, Onitsha, Aba, Kaduna, Jos, Sokoto, Bauchi?

Not really big on the politics so would leave out the tiny I part. However I would disagree with the Yoruba kingdoms 'dominating ' west Africa rhetoric. With the exception of the GRADE A polities of North Africa the Sahelians are a good second place , Africa speaking. Mali, Songhai, sokoto caliphate, Mossi, ayr, and the numerous nomadic confederacies in the desert. Martially and politically the more tropical polities don't match. The Yorubas ran very good kingdoms but if you want to compare large scale rule structures I don't see how Oyo( the most dominant one ) beats Mali or even Sokoto in effectiveness. Esp seeing that sokoto is still pretty much in ceremonial existence-with all the emirs and their sub groups. Despite losing the power of military coercion.

Simple answer to your very well thought out question... THE BRITISH.

The brits decimated the oyo and benin empires, same way today many people do not remember the roman empire who also conquered Britain!

They were soo decimated that it took centuries to reconstitute the 'italic nations"

Why the brits decimated benin kingdom? Due to their resistance, sophistication and military might. Oyo? To secure the colony of lagos whilst northern nations were spared cos the leaders were amenable (indirect rule)
