That tinubu is the Most ungrateful n dumbest fellow in the senate.
That ppl habe bin keeping quiet does not mean they are fools.
Lagos was developed by its special Status of bin the capital of nigeria,an advantage no other state has or had .
In fact i think Lagos should stop receiving federal allocations because it is a state that a lot has bin invested in by the federal government.the fact that Lagos receives So much money from the federal government is What i just cannot comprehend.
The IGR from Lagos is enough to cater for its various needs .The federal government should stop allocating funds to Lagos as this monies only end up in the hands of tinubu n his bunch of criminal cronies.

Simple answer to your very well thought out question... THE BRITISH.

The brits decimated the oyo and benin empires, same way today many people do not remember the roman empire who also conquered Britain!

They were soo decimated that it took centuries to reconstitute the 'italic nations"

Why the brits decimated benin kingdom? Due to their resistance, sophistication and military might. Oyo? To secure the colony of lagos whilst northern nations were spared cos the leaders were amenable (indirect rule)

Well you do have a point. However it would be more apt if it were a question of formidability of foes faced. Yes any African who came into direct conflict with more advanced European colonizer a lost.hence oyo, Benin ..... And even sokoto!!
Don't forget that sultan attahiru was beaten In the battlefield by a British controlled expedition force.
But what is different now is the level of sophistication the British faced with regards to large scale ruling structures. Man if the British came to colonize and not trade in the 15 th or 16th centuries they would have faced the same thing in Benin and oyo.... Yet you see how the case was different in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Cos both were in decline.

Before I go off point I just want to say that the level of consolidation of large scale- rule structures runs much deeper in the sahel than in the more tropical zones. The British did in fact defeat sokoto and Borno( after the French beat Rabah zubayr) but the issue of penetration was going to be hard. The Islamic autocratic structures that flourished from the Mediterranean to the Sahel ensure much more administrative control and coordination. Not to say that oyo or Benin weren't sophisticated, but they did not dominate more than the sahelians west Africa-speaking. I mean even sokotos lieutenants sacked oyo-Ile didn't they ? On the issue of on the ground west African polities Sahelians are the embodiment of dominance. Not excellence , dominance !!!

This is not time to trade words and feel being hated.

Yes we made Lagos a larger economy , our investments and resources made it so and for Lagos demanding for revenue outside the one allocated to then with the internal revenue they generate from our taxes is pure act of selfishness... Is wickedness for proposing such bill..

Lagos should be a state to support other state for being a city with large and stable economy yet Lagos legislatures are finding a way to feed fat from the Nigeria pocket to achieve the so called distinctiveness in the detrimenet of other member state.

This is not good and every sane minds which you can't be counted within should condemn such evil bill.

Rubbish

If you are not selfish we what you have another person will take it away from you.

saying Lagos must support other states is the same as saying a rich person must support a poor person.. other states get their own allocation let them use their own allocation wisely..

And for your own benefit, Lagos is independent of the allocation. The internal revenue got from taxes is its strength not mere paltry allocation.

northern nations were not spared they were used by the colonialists to start war against other kingdoms but they couldn't overrun the oyo kingdom then the british created mistrust within the yorubas which led to the yoruba civil war then the same british were attacking the yorubas from the south(oceans) but the yorubas decided to stop fighting and the british won......

but the yorubas then concentrated on fighting the fulanis.. the fulanis were almost overrun by the yorubas but the stepped in and stopped the war when they realized the yorubas were winning..

the colonialists always favored fulanis they were never spared..
Nice post,bro.
But Ibadans single-handedly fought the Fulanis and not all the Yoruba sub-groups collectively.
If they had stopped their internecine wars and united,Ilorin would have been liberated and the Fulanis chased away.

If all you can pick out from the Bonn-Berlin Germany relationship is the need to send 1% of Nigeria's revenue to Lagos, then I give up.

You probably dont know the mean of the myth.

As at today most refined petroleum product entering Nigeria lands first in Lagos
80% if imported product coming through the Sea, come through Lagos.

If all other seaports are getting just 80% of Lagos traffic most importers/exporters won't dream of Lagos.

The last time i checked Ogun state got more industries than Lagos, but you won't Notice it because Ogun is far Bigger in landmass.

Unfortunately for you and your kind with such ignorant and childish understanding.

Lagos being transit or entry point for goods means nothing and contributes little or nothing to Lagos state.

In what way anything landing in n Lagos contributes anything? Are all the goods going to be sold and consumed in Lagos or is Lagos taxing the buyers and sellers of the same goods in your village, in Kano, maiduguri, lokoja, enugu, ondo or oyo .

What is the meaning of this thoughtless and bogus argument?

Lagos state's economic power is from industries, factories, banking and finance, goods and services, entertainment and so on and these activities was there before independence and before Nigeria as a country and even the same reason the FC was moved there in the first place.

And the worst part is that after killing those leaders , these guys didnt put up a fight. COWARDS....

it is easy to call a Yoruba guy coward via an online forum.

Most of the leaders mentioned were in fact corrupt. The people of South Western Nigerian (not just Yorubas, Igbos included, many of them reside in the SW and they love it!) are the most open minded and progressive people on the African continent. They are not easily swayed by emotional appeal, not even money, each man thinks for himself in anticipation of the overall progress of the country.

Unlike some people we know, we are not easily drawn into war, we have 16 years civil war history to prove that. You are indeed an ethnocentric fool if you believe violence is the only way to achieve vengeance. Whatever the Northern leaders did in the past, their people are still paying for it via the Boko Haram insurgency and their many miseries up North.

I believe that is their way a requesting more independence. Federalism will happen eventually and the rejection of this bill is a sign of whats to come. To be objective, I find Eastern secession as a joke! if there is any place that has the power to secede in Naija, it is Lagos state (am not talking about Yoruba people alone). This is because it has enough cultural heritage, financial might and can easily muster a loyal army which is NOT divided along tribal lines. So yes it is quite ethical, Lagos already carries the baggage of the cost of economic activities in Nigeria, why should the state not enjoy 1% of the national cake, it is her divine right!

Which states in Naija can boast of a melting point of Naija cultures. Most of these other states are run by oligarchs.
