I tend to ask, Why are all Yoruba's omonilies even in their thinking and education they are parasites and think only for themselves not minding their humble lame beginning and the fingers that fed them.

I spit on them one by one they don't deserve any goodwill from other ethnicities... No wonder the bail failed woefully...

Lagos as a former federal capital territory deserves a special status for the purpose of revenue sharing in order to manage the huge challenges that was inherited from the relocation of the country's capital. This is in line with best practises all over the world. But unfortunately, tribalism, hatred and outright jealousy will not allow the law makers take the right decision.

There are other cities that were capital of Nigeria before Lagos.

Then why were they begging for certificate of occupancy during the World Igbo Day held in Lagos?
"Onwughalu said that the Igbos in Lagos have been neglected by this administration, because none of them were considered as members of Ambode, s cabinet despite the fact that they own 50 percent of the lands in Lagos. He however pleaded with governor Ambode to grant Certificate of Occupancy to the landlords in order to build their confidence."

Well you do have a point. However it would be more apt if it were a question of formidability of foes faced. Yes any African who came into direct conflict with more advanced European colonizer a lost.hence oyo, Benin ..... And even sokoto!!
Don't forget that sultan attahiru was beaten In the battlefield by a British controlled expedition force.
But what is different now is the level of sophistication the British faced with regards to large scale ruling structures. Man if the British came to colonize and not trade in the 15 th or 16th centuries they would have faced the same thing in Benin and oyo.... Yet you see how the case was different in the 19th and 20th centuries.
Cos both were in decline.

Before I go off point I just want to say that the level of consolidation of large scale- rule structures runs much deeper in the sahel than in the more tropical zones. The British did in fact defeat sokoto and Borno( after the French beat Rabah zubayr) but the issue of penetration was going to be hard. The Islamic autocratic structures that flourished from the Mediterranean to the Sahel ensure much more administrative control and coordination. Not to say that oyo or Benin weren't sophisticated, but they did not dominate more than the sahelians west Africa-speaking. I mean even sokotos lieutenants sacked oyo-Ile didn't they ? On the issue of on the ground west African polities Sahelians are the embodiment of dominance. Not excellence , dominance !!!

It depends on what u mean by dominance.

But yea they got their 'dominance' because of their styles of governance

For example when a hausa/fulani conquers a town they 'colonise' it... force their religion, culture and language down the communities throats.

Now the benin kingdom didn't do that much...they preferred 'tributes'. Tho they'd station soldiers there and maybe a bini prince will run it but that area usually retained their culture, language n values.

I'm sure that's same style the oyo empire did (not sure)

Unfortunately for you and your kind with such ignorant and childish understanding.

Lagos being transit or entry point for goods means nothing and contributes little or nothing to Lagos state.

In what way anything landing in n Lagos contributes anything? Are all the goods going to be sold and consumed in Lagos or is Lagos taxing the buyers and sellers of the same goods in your village, in Kano, maiduguri, lokoja, enugu, ondo or oyo .

What is the meaning of this thoughtless and bogus argument?

Lagos state's economic power is from industries, factories, banking and finance, goods and services, entertainment and so on and these activities was there before independence and before Nigeria as a country and even the same reason the FC was moved there in the first place.

Sad that many of you with zero knowledge about your own country just wont shut up..

Ode ni e.

At your age you don't know that any state/country that serves as transit route for goods/services attract investment opportunity and revenues growth.

That is why bank and industry wants to stay close to Lagos.

Why do you think Benin Republic is generating so much income from their seaport.

Pls What are the names of the banks n industries that were in Lagos before nigeria became a country?

This is the dumbest question ever on NL.

Let me give you a little history since obviously they did not teach you any in elementary school.

To start with, to assume that there was no banks in Lagos before independence was just ignorance and mental laziness.

Nearly all the skyscrapers on broad street and marina before independence were banks and financial institutions

Agbonmagbe bank now known as WEMA bank established in 1945 is the longest surviving indigenous Nigerian bank.

And there are many others like..

First bank

Barclays Bank

Union bank and so on.

Industrial estates responsible for a major share of Nigeria's industrial output before and after independence were established in Lagos before independence by the old western region led by Awolowo.

Ikeja industrial estate

Apapa industrial estate

Mushin industrial estate

Ilupeju industrial estate

Matori industrial estate

These estates were all on the mainland before Nigeria and independence.

Lagos as the F capital was confined to Lagos island and not the mainland which was totally western region

Is Lagos inhabited by Yoruba people alone?

What have Niger Deltans done with the money they have been collecting?

Is the Niger Delta and the oil companies making a killing out of their lands all owned and filled by only Niger Deltans? Are all the oil Wells in that region owned by Niger Deltans alone?

Lagos on its own is already generating hundreds of billions of Naira and does receive high allocation after oil producing states like Akwa Ibom, Rivers, so why ask for more? What have they done with what they have been receiving before? Judging by how small Lagos is, presently, it should be competing with London and New York in terms of development but alas, it isn't.

Instead of you to be weary of the Tinubus and their unparalleled taste to impoverish the masses, you're here defending them. Tinubu has tried all possible ways to take over SW, National Assembly, and Nigerian at large but all plans failed so he decided to still use his wife and a few moles to further project his selfish ambition.

If the greedy and foolish woman and her husband had championed resource control, then we'd have believed their intentions to be genuine but it's always of the contrary..

Seun,
Thank you for bringing up this angle. The root of the issue lie in disparity of the federal allocation formula.

Lagos has more population than any other state in Nigeria. It also has the highest population of migrants from neighbouring countries. You can add up the entire population of SE states and the figure will still be far below the population of Lagos. Take Kano out of NW and the population left in the remaining six states is not up to that of Lagos. We should not even talk of NE zone, they have been depopulated by bokoharam. NC is the only zone that will compete population with Lagos.

All the IDPs running from kidnapping, robbery, ritual killing, poverty, environmental disaster and land erosion, baby factories in SE and SS have fled, with their families and relatives to Lagos for safety and security.

The IDPs escaping bokoharam, poverty, religious persecution, childhood marriage, have fled NW and NE to come to Lagos for refuge.

So given this, Lagos is at risk of a monunental environmental disaster. Lagos has involuntarily been helping the other five zones of the federation to care for the welfare needs of the citizens they lack capability and competence to protect, shelter and feed.

Meanwhile these zones continue to be compensanted at parity rate on the federal allocation funds.

The scale is not balanced. Hence the need for review and modification of allocation to Lagos or the granting of a special status in recognition of the role it plays in the lives of indigenes from other zones.

I believe that is their way a requesting more independence. Federalism will happen eventually and the rejection of this bill is a sign of whats to come. To be objective, I find Eastern secession as a joke! if there is any place that has the power to secede in Naija, it is Lagos state (am not talking about Yoruba people alone). This is because it has enough cultural heritage, financial might and can easily muster a loyal army which is NOT divided along tribal lines. So yes it is quite ethical, Lagos already carries the baggage of the cost of economic activities in Nigeria, why should the state not enjoy 1% of the national cake, it is her divine right!

Which states in Naija can boast of a melting point of Naija cultures. Most of these other states are run by oligarchs.

Is the SE lacking

has the SE ever produced a president

is the SE economically better than the north

If your answer to the above is Yes... then the problem of the SS is not producing a president... their problem is they are waiting for FG to develop them instead of their state governments..
