Northern Nigeria has had to grapple with some appalling news report over the years. The region is not aided by the Boko haram insurgency. Consequently, many Nigerians especially in the South, have demonized the region that anyone who wants to travel there will be discouraged. http://www.socialtimesng.com/2016/10/5-lies-everyone-tells-you-about-northern-nigeria/ Lalasticlala, mynd44 5 Likes

There are miscreants across the divide (south and North). Those who spread this gospel of hate, will still come to claim to be christian. I wonder what kind of christianity the likes of Fani Kayode is showcasing. 7 Likes 3 Shares |

If you have never set your foot in the north then I suggest you don't post on this thread. My job has taken me to 5 core northern states ; Sokoto, Kano, Katsina, Yobe and Jigawa. I have also been to fringe states like Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Adamawa and Niger and I can tell you authoratively that the north is a sh1thole waiting to explode. Fringe states like Bauchi, Kaduna, Minna and Gombe are highly volatile because of the sizeable indigenous Christian population. The Christians live in absolute subjugation under the Hausa Fulani moslem ummah. Education is totally haram except for the elite and children of civil servants. Fridays are volatile where Christians keep their movements minimal or restricted from city centres and or into moslem dominated neighbourhoods. You will stand out like a red neck lizard if you are dressed in kafuri attire. Unlike in the south where your pocket determines where you can rent or build a house, the north is segregated along sectarian lines. Vice such as drug abuse, alcoholism, adultery fornication , prostituti0n and sodomy are widespread and the level of hypocrisy stinks. Widespread desperate poverty greets you everywhere you go from the highbrow residential areas to the walled off Kofar Dorbar districts. Religion in the form of islam is more like a vice cult than a spiritual movement. I always heave a heavy sigh when my assignments are through in the north. 67 Likes 13 Shares |

amaechi1: And you turn a blind eye to bigots in the form of Northern statesmen, elders and clerics who routinely spread hate messages that always lead to sectarian riots. Or have you forgotten how many northern governors and statesmen demanded amnesty for boko haram including your buhari? Has FFK's sermons led to sectarian riots in the south? Has he even called for violence against Northerners dwelling in the south? I wonder why you slaves won't just relocate to your blessed north and see things for yourselves instead of posting trash on the internet. 30 Likes 6 Shares |

GBTYO: Are you done driveling? You sound like someone that's deprived of love and care. So bitter. Got jilted, maybe? I can sense that that job of yours is a lying one. Widespread desperate poverty even in highbrow areas? Yet it qualifies as an upscale area in your dictionary? You must be a lot more deficient than I first thought! Kano, Kaduna, Sokoto, et al, poor? It's obvious you have malaria! Better go walk your life's frustrations off. Don't even attempt to cover them with lies, bigotry and sheer hatred. A lot of folks in Kano alone are so stinkingly rich they could buy your entire state if it's put up for sale! You should thank your stars I'm not in the mood to get into diatribes right now! 14 Likes 2 Shares |

Let's fact check this article. Even though they didn't provide much in terms of rebuttal. The article amounts to Northern Nigeria region is not that bad. Arguements 2: (They are deprived) "There are many of them who are very comfortable and wealthy and have never been to Lagos or Abuja. In fact, the richest man in Nigeria and Africa, Aliko Dangote is from the region!" Those rich are what you call outliers. If you look at per capita gdp (which is hard to find) they are lowest regions in country. They still do primary same subsistence farming techniques. Argument 3:They hate education "Northerners are now embracing education. Not only the education of the male child but also the female child. Even though there should be more enlightenment, parents are sending their wards to school." I guess it shows they weren't too keen on getting education before by what writer told us. It is and has always been least educated region. They might not hate it but they don't embrace it to great extent. https://www.nairaland.com/2534505/education-statistics-nigeria-going-school http://www.afri-dev.info/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Afri-Dev.Info-Public-Policy-Brief-Editorial-on-Highlights-of-2015-Nigeria-Scorecard-on-Education_Governance_Peace_Security-Boko-Haram-_0.pdf The North Eastern Zone comprising: Taraba, Bauchi, Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Gombe was the least educated in the federation. 52.4% Of North Eastern Males were uneducated, while 61.1% of North Eastern Females were uneducated, resulting in an average of 56.75% Illiterate/b] and 43.25% Educated Youth Population Immediately following is the NorthWestern Zone comprising Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Jigawa, Kebbi, and Zamfara with 46.9% Uneducated Males, and 62.8% uneducated Females, resulting in an average of 54.85% Illiterate and 45.15% Educated Youth Population Next comes the North Central Zone comprising Plateau, Nassarawa, FCT, Niger, Benue, Kwara and Kogi with 22.6% uneducated Males and 38.0% uneducated Females resulting in an average figure of 30.3% Illiterate and 69.7% Educated Youth population Arguement 4: They are impeding Nigeria’s development "A number of political commentators have suggested that the north is preventing Nigeria from reaching its potentials. This is actually wrong. In almost every Nigerian region, there are challenges. The government is doing its best to tackle some of these difficulties. It is very unfair to isolate a region and say it is impeding Nigeria’s development." It's doing it best but its fair to point out they're laggard region in per capita gdp and education. The challenge is great and blame can't be put squarely on shoulders but as region with most land and people to under performed so much is telling. Next this regions politicians are against restructuring based on fiscal federalism/state resource control.KANO – Elder Statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai slammed idea saying its because Yorubas are jealous of them. Instead of focusing on improving economy they prefer to to feed off productivity of more successful regions. The quote below shows this. "The whole aggression originated form Action Group, and the intention was to deny the North the benefit of the population and land mass. It is therefore a gang up to deprived the north the benefits its is getting for been richly endowed.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/10/restructuring-nigeria-yoruba-agenda-yakasai/ 7 Likes 1 Share |

Lol....Even a zygote in the womb knows that northern Nigeria is all shades of poor. This is not an insult, its a fact...its reality. Some areas in the north have an 80% poverty rate. The bolded has to be the lie of the millennium. That kind of lie can make a mad man regain his sanity. I will speak no further. malton: 16 Likes 2 Shares |

Tell it to those that haven't been to northern states before. As for me, I know for sure that they are deprived, they hate education, they are religious fanatics and hypocrites, they are backwards in development, and they are very very hostile. Take it from someone that lived there for 10years. 25 Likes 3 Shares |

GBTYO: Yeah right. You can now clap for yourself. I am sure your ''travel'' to many northern states means just driving through, otherwise you would have acknowledged that what the report stated is mostly true. No region is more hospitable than the north. If you have stayed any where in the north for 6mnth - 1yr i am sure you would attest to that. Places like kaduna which is like the lagos of the north (remove FCT), the business hub is Ahmadu bello way. Igbos own most of the building/businesses there. How many of them ahd been driven away on fridays? There shops are open and they run their businesses the way they like. Many of them would rather die there than leave the north. Suleja too in niger state is another example, the no of igbos there and the size of their businesses is something you have to see to appreciate, how many of them told you they have to look over their shoulders anytime they are roaming around ? Infact many of them feel more secure in the north than in their own states They might be poor and 'backwards' as your definition of backwards means. But it still remains a fact that they are contended with whatever little they have. And mostly, they are not ready to sacrifice the head or other body parts of their relatives to make quick money. On respecting their culture and practices, i am sure anybody who have lived/from the south-west can understand hw they mostly shut down and area becos of one juju traditional festival or the other, now how many of us criticizing the north has been restricted from movement becos of one festival or the other? An sure the east too hav their own traditional festival in which movements are restricted. 1 Like 1 Share |

amaechi1:Just stop taking stupidy as a way of life. Fani Kayode is 100% right by calling out Nigeria northerners as extremist in Islamic religion. They are not the only muslim majority group of people in Africa, but they are the only Muslim majority group of people that kill people of other faiths and moderates within their own group with flimsy excuses. Go through West Africa and you will find a country called Senegal. They have over 90% Muslim population, but never at any time would anyone hear of religious fanaticism, or killings via religious riots against their tiny Christian population or against foreigners. You want to come in here to use Igbo name to write lies and try to cover up what your northern Nigeria muslim evil brethrens are doing? Sorry it can't work 22 Likes 3 Shares |
Re: 5 Lies Everyone Tells You About Northern Nigeria by DaudaAbu(m): 5:09pm On Oct 06, 2016 |
Biafman: You dont make comparison with countries like senegal. A country with 90% population of any religion cannot experience crisis because the minority religion knows that they are at a disadvantage. You expect a muslim in south east/south-south to start a crisis? He knows that he is clearly out-numbered 1 Like |

Yes! The northern Nigeria is the problem with Nigeria and I say that with all certainty! Apart from the introduction of sharia law and their constant refusal to support any bills to reform our obnoxious constitution, more cases of ethnoreligious violence driven by religious intolerance and tribal bigotry have occurred in the north than any other region. In which other supposedly democratic nation do we have citizens subject to other laws outside the nationally constituted laws? The truth of the matter is that northern Nigeria devides the country more than any other region in Nigeria. The north has everything to do with the problems of Nigeria and that is the plain truth. 15 Likes 2 Shares |
