stadora:My sister, it wasn't hard and it wasn't easy neither. I have been putting it in prayers way ahead and also telling my dd that she will stop on her birthday. So 4am on her birthday, she wanted some and I gave her, but told myself that it would be the last. After work that day, she had presents that distracted her and she didn't suck, I gave her pap instead later. Later that night, she half awoke looking for bf, but I cooed her back to sleep, then around 3am, she couldn't take it again and started crying, I gave her water which she refused and then I gave her pap. Cos she was hungry, she ate very well and went back to sleep. She slept thru till morning unlike before that she will bf like 4times before morning. Next day we repeated same, like that till we are now 7days and counting. When she brings her hands to my bre-ast I say " you are now a big girl & big girls don't suck". The presure was more on me cos my bre-ast was engored the first day, the next day, I bought cucumber. Mamas say you should put it in the fridge to cool, but I needed fast action and put in freezer. It helped a lot and I only put cabbage for 3days. Am much better now and she hardly remembers bf. HTH Yes o! Proudmum38, where art thou? I have been meaning to ask. I trust the proudy clan are great. 1 Like |

mitchyy: Not true. Salad (without dressing) is pretty healthy. Sweet potatoes are actually very rich in beta-carotene and Vitamin A. Even with alcohol, you'd have to be drinking heavily and constantly to pass it through your breastmilk in large enough quantities to hurt Hansel. Malt is just sugar so I agree on that. Milk is good, why deprive yourself and Hansel of Calcium? |

sayoddy: I don't think you should be dosing your child just like that because it is easy to build up a resistance to most drugs and pharmacists tend to slightly over-prescribe (in my personal opinion). Unless you have done a blood test to ascertain malaria, stay off the meds and just give Infant Tylenol/Calpol to treat the temperature and wash him down with lukewarm (not cold) water. If he starts showing more of malaria, then take him to the hospital. Too many doctors complain that Parents abuse antibiotics and malaria drugs here, causing Drug-Resistance and if they continue, weakening baby's liver. You don't want to have a 5 year old drinking the same meds as an adult because nothing else works since his/her body ia used to all other meds o. Take a mosquito net with you next time so you don't get into an argument with MiL and get your huaband to agree on this ao he ia the one that will tell your MiL and you avoid her putting any blame on your head. 1 Like |

@Onegai, I just read back and saw your post/question on cereal, unfortunately, I can't help much there, it's only nutri-ben cereal I give her for now. @stadora, if you can't afford a cake now, don't stress, your baby still has many birthdays ahead. But if you can, go ahead cos it must not be big. 5" or 7" is ok. The important thing is your Baby growing healthy. May God keep all of them for us. 1 Like |

mitchyy: Hmmmnnn! People sha! So what should you be eating? Bitterleaf and grass? Its all these type of people that used to raid fridge for chocolate cake at 2 am when no body will see them. All you need is a healthy and a varied diet. I see nothing wrong with those food. Who told her salad has to be sweet, you can have salad withour the cream or mayo and use a healthier dressing. Lemon dressing is easy to make: just some lemon juice and olive oil with a pinch of salt and pepper. When next she says anything tell her you will ask for her treasured opinion when you need it. And offer her some of your food. |

stadora: Let me share my own weaning experience..... i know every child is different so this may not help everyone. We did own own last breast feed on independence day and we have been managing so far..... Dd is 10 months. Ok so after introducing solids at 6 months... At 7 months we indroduced formular as the plan was to start substituting one breast feed a day with formular. So in the first 2 weeks for instance, her 11:00 ish pre nap feed was substituted with formular, after about 2 -3 weeks, i will substitute another of her breast feeds at another time.... say afternoon nap feed. And so on and so forth By 8 months we were down to breast feeding only 3 times a day, early morning, lunch time and after evening bath. I started giving bottle for her last feed as well as i wanted to break the habit to nursing to sleep. At 9 months it was down to 2 feeds a day, and it wasnt a set feed. If she work up late, we skipped the morning feed and did it at lunch time for instance, and at othertimes we gave formular instead at lunch time or after her bath. By 10 months the feed were pretty much random, sometimes once a day, sometimes twice. And when we decided to stop i started taking a small bottle of formular to bed, with hot water in a flask. If she wakes very early and is fussy, she has this. If not, we have normal breakfast. We also have beaker of water so if she wakes at night, i give her some water and pat her back to sleep, she has to cry, tears, cattarrh and saliva cry to get a night feed. 2 Likes 7 Shares |

rezzy: rezzy-dear, have you found another source of income, have your millions landed because Cerelac is now N1100 per can and it may rise further. So if he's finishing it quite fast, you may need to run for LG chairman and embezzle some public funds. I'm in the same situation and when I see how Baby E sometimes decides halfway to waste food and pour it on the floor, I shed bitter tears inwardly. But I've decided to stop crying.... And announce my candidancy for Local Government Chairperson!!!! Please come and support me with your votes, illegal and otherwise! 5 Likes |

kotias003: I was in the US so i had access to Medela symphony hospital grade breast pump . Its expensive (about $1600)but most hospitals there offer it for hire then you buy the other parts that touch your skin. I hired it for a week then i bought Medela Pump in Style Advanced Breast Pump with On the Go Tote. You may find it in konga or jumai or if you have someone coming to naija. see how it looks https://www.amazon.com/Medela-Pump-Style-Advanced-Breast/dp/B004HWXCJS/ref=sr_1_1_s_it?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1475756380&sr=1-1&keywords=medela%2Belectric%2Bpump&th=1 The suction level for both was really good and in a lil while i was leaking milk on my blouse like mad.i don't know other electric pump but this one is really good. You may need a step down cos i changed my plug when i got back make sure you are pumping every three to four hours for 15-20 mins even at nite. this is the sacrifice you have to pay to establish milk supply My igbo folks say local palm wine helps with milk flow ( i ven't tried it oh!) |

Hello Mums My baby is 20 days today and there's complain that she's stooling too much. How much excreta is too much for a baby? She was on flagyl for 7 days after placed under a photolamp to treat jaundice. They say it might be the flagyl but we have stopped it for about a week now. How many times a day should a normal 20-day old baby pass stool? 1 Like |

I got current info on bonds from trade unit of a bank. Will post. I cant read and decode myself. -pregnancy brain. Anyone who does please break it down. Cc Onegai helovesme soonest alphahandmaiden mitchy enkaydewdrop and every mama... Good Day, FGN Bonds are debt instruments issued by the Federal Government of Nigeria as a vehicle to raise funds for capital projects. The FGN bond market is divided into primary and secondary market. The secondary trades daily with maturities ranging from 2yrs-20yrs bonds. The standard trading volume for FGN Bond at the secondary market is N100mn. Clients who want to invest less than this amount can access the market via the monthly primary market auction conducted by the Debt Management Office (DMO) on behalf of the Federal Government. At the last auction on the 14th September 2016, there was a re-opening of the 5yr- Jul 2021(new-issue), 10yr- 2026 and 20yr FGN 2036, stop rates was at 15.143%, 15.5357% and 15.5974% for the bonds. There will be another auction in October 7th At the auction, the (DMO) determines volumes sold and the rate its sells to all investors so we only give an indication on the outcome of the auction and this is based on our experience and market trends. It’s important to note that bonds are quoted in yields terms i.e. (effective interest rate) which is different from discount rate quoted on Treasury bills. Minimum subscription for bond auction is N100, 000.00. If you bid at the auction at a rate lower than the stop rate, you will be sold to at the stop rate. Please note that unlike Treasury bills you cannot pre-liquidate and interest is not upfront. There is always and accrued interest and premium paid if you are buying from the market, a bond that was reopened. Bonds is Ideal for investors with long term investment horizon as it offers a stable (coupon payment) cash flow every 6 months and the principal investment is also recouped at end of investment period. Most of the FGN bonds in issue are premium bonds unlike treasury bills that are purely discount instrument so the client will pay more to acquire the security. Treasury will advise if the bid was successful. The customer is expected to make funds available on the auction day. All FGN bonds are held on a custodianship bases at a fee on behalf of the client by our approved custodian (Diamond Pension Fund Custodian). If you are interested in participating in next month’s auction, kindly send an instruction through your branch some days before the auction for easy collation and processing. |
