Hello Ladies I recently had my baby in Calgary, Canada. Before I applied I read nairaland from pg 1 to 20 plus then. Pls let's read the ALL the pages before asking any question. At the point of Entry the officer just asked my why am in canada, I said Visiting. He asked who?, what I do for a living & other random questions that has nothing to do with my pregnancy, don't think I spent more than 1 minute him. My bill for Vaginal Delivery Admittance fee 838, Hosp fee daily 3673 (For 24 hrs) Baby's Hosp bill 1080 Obstetrician fee 500 Paediatrician fee 250 Total CAD$6,341 Other Expenses Birth Certificate long 60 Birth Certificate short 41 Passport photo 25.2 Canadian Passport 107 Nigerian Travel Doc 100 Post to Nig. Embassy to & Fro 40 My baby's KLM ticket 243.5 Please Note: If they had asked me if I was pregnant at the Point of entry I would have said YES. There is no point lieing when u r obviously pregnant. If u r lucky u can meet a good officer. This bill does not include seeing doc before & after delivery. I posted my bill to give a guideline, bills varies from the city u give birth, the doctor, type of delivery and also if there is complication. I want to use this opportunity to thank Hotstepper for her assistance when applying for baby's Nigeria document. I wld HV applied for Nigerian Visa or passport for baby BT she explained to me that its not necessary. I should just apply for Emergency Travel Certificate for baby which is cheaper & faster. If you need further information I will try my best to answer. Goodluck! 19 Likes 1 Share |

Hello Thank you all for this treasure of information on this subject, my wife is currently pregnant (very early stage) and I have been looking for ANY source of information on giving birth in Canada without luck. Although I'm not Nigerian, but I guess we all fall in the same shoe in this day and age. I have read through the entire thread, and have the following questions that I would appreciate some help with. 1. Since we don't have anyone we know in Canada, I'm thinking of flying in at 4-6 months in to the pregnancy to get a feel of the location, maybe even get a referral from a GP and sort thing out. So when wifey flies in at 30 weeks plus it isn't as much of a hassle. Could this be done? 2. Which province would you recommend, are there are certain GPs that would accept to see us while on a visitor visa? Would appreciate any additional help or information you could provide or any additional resources or websites you could direct me to Good bless you all |

jinnyz: You lied already and this is what I don't understand about we Nigerians, you have the money to give birth in Canada, it's not against the law to give birth in Canada and when asked you said visiting mean while you are actually going to give birth. We are really not helping our image as Nigerians 5 Likes |

Hello Jinny. Congratulations on d safe delivery & new addition. Also Thanks for the update & useful info.pls can you give the details of the hospital & gynaecologist you used in calgary? I sent u a pm, not sure you received it. Thanks in advance. jinnyz: |
Re: Giving Birth In Canada by jinnyz: 1:45pm On Oct 02, 2016 |
@ Justwise before applying I read All the pages and I followed the footsteps of the previous people that had gone before me. The image of Nigerians u shd be talking abt are those that put to bed and abscond without paying their bills. I posted based on my own experience am not telling any1 to follow it, its just a guideline. Feel free to post your own experience and stop criticising others. 10 Likes |

@ Yinyola Its Peter Lougheed hospital. U cannot get a gynaecologist directly, a general practitioner (GP) will refer u to one. When in Labour its the DR on shift that will attend to u not necessarily the one u r seeing. 5 Likes 1 Share |

jinnyz: Madam it's your decision to tell them that you are going on vacation rather child birth which is the main issue here and not because of what you read here. I will keep criticising who can not be bothered to do things the right way. |
Re: Giving Birth In Canada by rolorolo: 11:33am On Oct 04, 2016 |
@ Justwise, You are not in the position to criticize Jinnzy at all!. Jinnzy has provided useful information to all members here and i must say the info was explicit and detailed. She even stated while sharing her experience, if she was asked at the POE if she was pregnant she would have said yes. In my own opinion, that was fair enough. What if she had lied and she was sent back immediately? We should not criticize people on this forum for sharing their experiences but rather make good use of the information as it apply to us!!! Thank you. @ Jinnzy, hope the baby is doing great? Congrats dear. 6 Likes |

@ Just wise.......Do u know anyone that have said at the POE that they came to give birth and was allowed to enter the country. If you know the best way to tackle immigration questions without being sent back why dont you share it! PLS SHARE YOUR RIGHT WAY OF DOING THINGS! Like i said earlier i just decided to share my own experience of my journey, at the end of the day Ladies use your DISCRETION. If anyone has answered "to give birth" when asked y they r in Canada please don't hesitate to share your own experience. 5 Likes |

Re: Giving Birth In Canada by justwise(m): 3:41pm On Oct 04, 2016 |
jinnyz: Tell them the truth. That is my own right way of doing it. You are going to Canada to give birth simple. Its not against the Canadian law. |

Re: Giving Birth In Canada by JESUnifemi4eva: 12:43pm On Oct 06, 2016 |
Dear stposh, I would not be in the best position to answer your question because I got my TRV with a letter of invitation; however I believe there's a separate thread on Nairaland that will address your questions on getting a TRV without knowing anyone in Canada. Cheers! stposh: |

Dear Jinnyz, Congratulations! and thanks for sharing this, I would like to know more of the following: - Do you have an idea on how much will be for a CS delivery? - When did you enter Canada and how many months you were already when you first met your doctor in Canada? I heard that some doctors don't accept patients who are at last stage of pregnancy Thank you. jinnyz: |
Re: Giving Birth In Canada by rolorolo: 7:31am On Oct 08, 2016 |
Good morning all. Please @Jinnzy, could you please confirm if you booked flight ticket indicating to and from (Canada/Nigeria) when you traveled to birth your baby. Kindly clarify please. |
Re: Giving Birth In Canada by jinnyz: 9:52am On Oct 08, 2016 |
rolorolo: I booked my ticket to & fro. For your return ticket u will need at least one month after you deliver to get baby's document. So when booking based on ur EDD date add at least 1 month. |

Re: Giving Birth In Canada by Tarry(m): 12:43am On Oct 11, 2016 |
justwise: I remembered this issue came up before, I understand your insistent on saying the truth, I really hope we can be more truthful in this country but sometimes expediency demands that you do not volunteer certain information that was not directly requested if it will jeopardize your mission. Yes the main purpose of travel is child birth but you are also visiting and pragmatism can make you present your answer to appear more acceptable though you are not divulging full information A man share his madam experience on this forum when she was refused entry because she said her purpose of coming to Canada is to give birth and she did not indicate it earlier in her application. I think it will be foolhardy to say you were coming to give birth in Canada at the POE if you have not previously indicated so in your application but then one should endeavor to indicate so in the application since it is not against their law, the only difference is the required available fund will be higher 2 Likes |
Re: Giving Birth In Canada by justwise(m): 10:11am On Oct 11, 2016 |
Tarry: I have to disagree with you here, this is not about volunteering info, this is about info which is core/material to your visit to Canada. You are going to Canada to give birth and NOT holiday. If you withhold that info during your visa application then turn up at POE to disclose it then your chances of getting sent back is high. Lying about your intentions means that you have something to hide. 2 Likes |
