So I've been teaching for more than half of my life and I love it.
I've taught adults to read, can be hair pulling tho.
I've taught 8 year olds. They are the easiest to get along with.
I've taught secondary students, I'm never doing that again! The pranks, the attitude, the gossip, the challenging your authority......
I've taught 4-5year olds and they are the best! Innocent, obedient and pure. They tend to regard me like a 'god'. To them..... I know it all. I am perfect.

Now, I teach 2-3 year olds and my life is hell!
A funny kind of hell tho.
Sometimes I feel when they leave their houses in the morning, their only intention is to finish me before closing.
Sometimes I smack myself in the head and say Zaynie... what pushed you to go this low!
They repeat whatever you say!
You call out to them and they grin at you while running from you, expecting you to give chase.
They spend forever in the bathroom, one hand wash bottle per day is what we use up. I wasn't surprised when the basin quit after 1 week..... culprit was paper towels.
Just when you are serious to work, they find a neat excuse to leave your side..... I need to peepee, I want water....failure to comply; wet clothes from peepee or ear piercing screeches of "water! " angry
They take your name, muddle it up till even you cannot recognize it..... Ms Zainab is MeJaina, Ms Vic is MicVic.

And today, after I finished feeding Banky.... he said "Thank you my baby MeJaina" . Me! Baby!
Dara doesn't like eating by herself cos she doesn't like using her fingers! She will point to you, point to the food ( even specify the particular one she wants) then she will open her mouth and point to it.
Like seriously, how lazy can a child get cheesy

Right now, I hate my job when I am at work but love it once I get home and remember all the naughty things they did.

Gotta go now.

Hi Zaynie,

Nice write-up. You obviously love to teach no doubt. Em..I am actually new in the teaching profession. I take JSS 1 - JSS 3 students and was wondering if there was any forum on Nairaland where teachers could connect, share experiences and ideas?

Your response would be most kind.

Thank you.

Thank you guys for the likes, shares, comments and thumbs up.

Happy Teacher's Day to all dedicated teachers out there.
WeRock!

Today was mostly uneventful because I already made up my mind not to kill myself.
Mide the class bully with the cutest afro ever! With innocent eyes and handsome face.... I strive to make him calm down and stop hitting others because I don't want him to become fine boy that loves to hit weaker people. He's tall too. Very fine boy o and he has a killer smile and dimples too. He's quick to make promises and he breaks them quicker sef...

Abby.... I call her Tinkerbell cos she is smaller but not younger than most... she is mulatto with a gigantic Afro... brown and super curly. She is feisty as hell and can drag anything with anybody (without hitting ). She's got such a sweet smile too. But Abby write, wahala begin.....

Bukky is my sweetheart. She is so well mannered I want to kiss her mom! But she doesn't like talking in front of others and she is always striving to be the best. I think as admirable as that is, it's too much pressure.... you can't be best always.

Banky is the big talker.... cute as a button.
He has the sweetest smile and hugs like crazy.
Dude can fib! My finger hurts! My tummy hurts! My head hurts! That is when work starts o, time to go to the play area and he would turn to the loudest monkey ever..... that boy!

Rolly is the sly one. I actually watched her slide away from the class today.... gradual shifting till she was far from the table. She'll do good work only with plenty of praises and tickles too. She is pretty with a matured air about her. Like she acts like a big girl....you will just be like.... ermmmm.... are you 3 or 30? cheesy

You'll meet the rest tomorrow, only then will you understand the love twist going on in the class.
I told my partners today that the Telemundo and Zeeworld I left at home is what I am enjoying here, free of charge.... cheesy

Dear Reader, you'll see a lot of distractions from here on, you can decide to read it or simply skip to page 3 for continuation smiley

Wow! There is need for a Teachers' Forum here!

I started like 6 years back, teaching both in school and in church.
It's been fun, seriously.

2-3 years in church: I sing "Jumping up and down(3x) shout Hossanah AND Are you in the Lord's army?"
Their response is alarming as as they jump around with me, staining my shirt with their soiled hands. Carry one up and the other starts playing sick so you can carry him too. Lol.

From that age, you can even detect LEADERS among them.

4-6 years: I call them the Restless ones. They are everywhere. You have to have an "Assistant teacher" otherwise your class would be a mess. In Schools, Nursery 3 fall into such and a part of Grade 1.

I read a Computing Course: Never dreamt of teaching, hated it! But I was born to do it. I've taught in several Big schools because of my passion to pass on knowledge creatively, still in one though. I have no regrets I accepted Teaching as a career.

In the classroom, I feel like a 'god'. My creative instincts are awoken!

NYSC years, yea; Those Ekiti students changed my name from 'Mr Smith' to 'Mr Sweet'. They finally landed in "Mr Tom-Tom". Come on! I taught them English sha o! They were just too attentive when I commence my 'lectures'. I start with literature, meander to "Spoken English", visit Bible stories a lil, enter Science... As a good educator, I do a recap and ask questions to be sure they weren't lost lol. The girls among them leave my class amazed and in awe. Rejected advances too, as usual. smiley

Jenny(name withheld): She'll go home and report to her mum what the teacher didn't do. Lies! In class, she forms quiet o. A 3 year old child calling her teacher, "a beast." Hmm! So much for 21st century schools.

Joy: 3 years old always sleeps when I carry her. Very lively and playful. I love her a lot because she talks like a 16 year old. Where did she learn those words from? Funny, she can't say or write all her alphabets and she uses big words like, 'ridiculous' etc.

A lot...Unless you are 'called' to teach, you might never feel fulfilled; it will be all about the money and reputation.

Nigerians have a way of disregarding teachers. They ask: Can you keep a family with teacher's salary? Mind them, schools are beginning to up their game.

If you are indeed in love with teaching (your profession), it has a way of taking you up.

12:57pm. School's about to wind up! Can't wait to be back here in my I.T lab on Monday morning, BHG.

Ciao!

Remembered my teaching days. It's was so challenging that ss1-ss3 students would mock u behind but I have my ways of making them listen and tell them fascinating stories during my NYSC so they could seat up and be ever ready to learn. Can't forget catching them with live letters and sms and doing bad stuff behind

You are so awed at the fluidity and innocence in the way she writes and instead of you to commend her you are here claiming she is using google lines.

Lol. Teaching kids have its own benefits and drawbacks. I love to teach senior high students. They are so nice and understand my instructions are very well. But the only drawback was lack of modern facilities.

Teaching is the most admirable and noble profession on earth. Teachers never really realize how powerful their profession is and how they can use it to change the world through the up coming generation. In their hands lie young minds that unknowingly look up to them. More power to you, OP.
