3 directors, made up of Nairaland's own Villageboi, Niyi Akande ( Canadian basde director) and Solomon Essang are going to make shoot a film next year but they are calling for interested actors and actresses to indicate interest if they want to feature. Read this excerpt from one of the directors.

This is the call for auditions that we’d earlier announced. As I would re-emphasize, one of our primary goals is to break the cultural and international barriers that hold Nollywood films from going mainstream worldwide. We are trying to help design a template for that. So, if it appears there are too many instructions, bear with us, it is not because we like writing essays. It is so that we can succeed in taking the film and you to an internationally competitive state.

*THESE ARE PAYING ROLES THAT WILL BE BACKED WITH A CONTRACT.

AUDITIONS INSTRUCTIONS

• This will be in the form of a video recording that you would
be able to send to us, or post online with a link. We will try our best to work with whatever digital format you send it in- whatsapp, vimeo, youtube, google drive, dropbox, and so on.

• You will audition using the Chekov plays accompanying this call-for-auditions.

• Please, go over the list at the bottom of this document, and choose a character you will like to audition for in our film. On the right side of the list are the Chekov characters which you will use in auditioning for our own characters. On the left hand side of the Chekov character you’re auditioning WITH is the actual role in our film that you’re auditioning FOR. You will then send us an email with the character(s) you’d like to audition for, and we’ll send you the matching Chekov play. These Chekov roles have nothing to do with the actual roles you’re auditioning for in our film. They are only to show us your acting chops and range; they are to show the raw-material we’re looking for to put together the characters you’re auditioning for.

• Feel free to audition for as many roles you feel comfortable auditioning for.

• However, pick characters you can convincingly embody, and indicate this character at the beginning of your audition-recording. This is because, while you might choose to play a Chekov character that is 10 years younger or older than your real age during the audition, we will need to know what role you’re auditioning for in our film, and be able to see that you physically match the character you’re playing in our film.

• Please, include your name, age, email address and phone number in your submission.

WHY ANTON CHECOV?:

• Chekov is one of the traditional Russian playwrights whose work compels the ‘less is more’ concept in acting; his characters do not lend themselves to over-theatricality, but are instead defined by subdued, simple, yet telling expressions of emotions. This is the style of acting we’re looking for.

• The stories are so removed from our Nigerian reality that an actor/actress who can embody Chekov’s characters should have no problems playing just about ANY role.

A FEW TIPS:
• It would be helpful to understand the character you’re playing by reading the intro/context in the beginning of the Act from which you have picked a portion to act.

• Feel free to bring a Nigerian slant to the character of your choice, without losing the essence (and mannerisms) of that character.

• It’s only a video audition, so don’t bother about spending time on the quality of your recording. If we can see you and hear your monologue/dialogue, it’s fine. Don’t bother with costumes.

• Relax and have fun with the roles.
