cuties babies everywhere. weldone mamas.
all are good products, also, choose according to your pocket. Yes, baby can take pap alongside d one you buy, but don't allow d cereal to stay too long after opening. Don't give Golden morn yet not recommended for 6 months.

cuties babies everywhere. weldone mamas.
all the grains are good, some kids are allergic to some so u 'll very them and know the one your baby prefers. For the brand, buy any one u can afford, in my own, we tried Gerber rice, my ds reject, when I tried mother's delight rice he was ok with it. He prefers cerelac wheat to mother's delight wheat maybe cos of the banana, he also likes nutribom oat, but me am nt ok with cos I 'll still 've to buy milk. So my dear sis, choose d one u can afford. U can start from rice. Pap is ok too, but golden morn for 6 months, I say NO. Mum ozycy pls explain more.

Good day mummy, pls kindly explain to me these cereal, pap, cerelac, gerber rice, oat, maize, millet etc. we are 4months old and will introduce something else soon. me,'i am not understanding' the difference. are they not all cereal?

other mamas pls me out.

@ bolded. Cereal is just a generic name for the likes of corn flakes, golden morn, celerac, etc as they are made from oats, rice, maize, wheat, milk, etc.

If you can, why not chill a bit till he's 6 months before you introduce solids ? At 6 months, babies have better head control, digestive system is more developed to process/digest solids, etc.

Personally, I wasn't in any rush to introduce solids and my son was on strictly milk for 6 whole months and I introduced fruits/cereal at the start of his 7th month.

I'm of the opinion that these babies have a lifetime ahead of eating all sorts of cereal, amala, eba, semo, etc so there's no rush. So spending 6 months strictly on milk won't hurt.

People claim that introducing solids early means a baby will not be a fussy eater. That's complete fallacy. My son eats/ drinks anything with the exception of sweet drinks - he has outrightly refused nido milk (any cow's milk), hot chocolate (milo + nido) and even Ribena.

However, if you insist on starting solids at 4 months, do bear in mind that milk should remain his main source of nutrition and go with solids that are easily digestible by babies.

I don't think custard is suitable for a baby that age. Custard can sometimes contain too much sugar.

Why not look at other healthy alternatives such as baby rice or just boil and blend potatoes and mixed vegetables?

How long has he been stooling ? How many times has he stooled today? If it's been more than 5-6 times, please take him to the hospital. Make sure he drinks water often as he needs it to remain hydrated.

If it's less, you can quickly prepare "salt and sugar solution" and give him about 10ml - 30ml to drink using a feeding bottle (if he uses one). I have tried this twice and it worked. Make sure the water is properly boiled and put about half a tea spoon of salt with one tea spoon of sugar in about 30ml of water. Make sure you taste it before you give him. It must not be too salty or too sweet. It should taste a bit funny.

It feels like I won a million dollars jackpot...my boy finished his food throughout yesterday. I made chicken n veggies puréed. He finished it- 3 heaped adult spoons o...no fuss, no singing. He was quiet and just opening his mouth so we went quiet with him and had them take his sister to another room cos her noise is something else. After the meal I gave him steamed carrot sticks as dessert- he nibbled a little n played with the remaining. For late lunch, it was semo- he didn't take. So I decided to try same combo as the brunch- he finished it again! He took same with banana pudding for supper!

Do I keep giving him just this or what now oo?? Thanks so much for your assistance...

You owe me champagne grin grin

You have to keep trying different varieties as he will soon get bored of this combo sooner or later.

For example, you can continue the chicken and vegs purée but throw in a bit of potatoes or pasta. You can swap the chicken for fish. Rather than assorted vegetables, you can use just carrot. You can also replace the chicken with boiled beef.

Have you tried wheat (the Honeywell brand)? He might prefer it to semo. I have tried wheat and plain ewedu and my son loves it.

Feel free to experiment even if the combo comes across as weird. cheesy

rezzy-dear, have you found another source of income, have your millions landed grin because Cerelac is now N1100 per can and it may rise further. So if he's finishing it quite fast, you may need to run for LG chairman and embezzle some public funds. I'm in the same situation and when I see how Baby E sometimes decides halfway to waste food and pour it on the floor, I shed bitter tears inwardly. But I've decided to stop crying....

And announce my candidancy for Local Government Chairperson!!!! Please come and support me with your votes, illegal and otherwise! grin

Hahaha. . Na switching sure pass. If it increases more than that, I will look for a cheaper cereal. Last month I bought 4, only God knows how many I will buy this month.

My baby hasn't been eating well (including sucking) since on Wednesday he took that pneumococcal vaccine. The same thing happened last month when he took the vaccine, he didn't eat for close to 6 days and that made he lost about 0.6kg. It's like the vaccine is too strong.

Can I give him malaria drugs, which?

Good evening mamas, hope your day went well?
Pls will like candid opinions on the following:
1. Like how many days will nutrboom on (350g), nutrilac (400g) and cerelac (900g) last?
2. Considering price, is nutribom, nutrilac worth it cuz won't I end up buying more to complement the 900g?
3. The cow and gate food jar and Heinz fruity yogurt, are they one feed or I get to keep and feed later?
4. Whats the difference between nutriben 4 cereals, nutriben 8 cereals and fruits and so on. Though same price and same gram (300g).
Thank you for your time.
We are clocking 6months next week hence the questions.

Madam, please go to the hospital o, is there anyway u can get someone to assist with baby since hubby is not around?

As per d lump, it will go down if you can keep breastfeeding or you can massage/compress with hot water, I won't say cold water because of the flu u already have. Please go to the hospital tomorrow morning for proper treatment. But u can still take paracetamol as first aid.

Get well soon.

It's normal for a baby to be cranky after immunisation. He will be fine, don't worry. Just keep giving him lots of cuddles and keep trying to breastfeed him.

Has he been tested for malaria? How do you know he has malaria? If he has been tested for malaria and malaria is confirmed, then it's the doctor's responsibility to prescribe the most appropriate malaria drug for your baby based on his age, weight and how serious the malaria is.

Please let's be careful with self medication in babies. Anything outside paracetamol/ibruofen and multivitamin should be prescribed by a doctor.

This sounds like mastitis, the lump, fever, restlessness and flu are classic symptoms. Without the flu I would have said maybe it's a plugged(blocked) ducts.

The treatment is continuous breast feeding, take lots of fluids, rest, and massaging of the affected breast. If your baby is refusing the breast, pls just put something warm on the the affected breast to help with let down and keep expressing the milk out. Massage the lumpy areas and apply a cold compress on it- yes, I know you have the flu. Take some painkillers- Tylenol- for the pains. Do the expressing and massaging like your life depends on it...put the cold compress for like 25mins at a time in between feeds/expressing, this will help with inflammation. Chilled cabbage leaves in the bra helps.

If after 24hrs there's no improvement, pls get to your GP to rule out infection. All the best dear...

Hmmm. This your question is serious jamb question o cheesy especially number 1. It's really hard to work out how long baby cereal will stretch for because babies all feed differently.

Since you are just about to start weaning, its best you buy the lower quantity to start with (350g or any smaller one available) and do not buy in bulk. This is because you do not know whether or not your baby will like the cereal/baby food you've bought for her. Once you know the brand/flavour your baby likes best, then you can buy larger packs.

Babies are funny. You might end up buying 350g (he finishes it) and then you buy the 900g tin only for the child to refuse it outrightly. So just prepare your mind. It can be quite hard to stick to a budget with babies.

I learnt this lesson the hard way. I am still stuck with 3 packs of Cow and Gate's "my first banana muesli". I don't blame my son though for refusing it - I tried it and it tasted like saw dust grin

Question 3 - if I remember correctly, any unused food that's left in the food jar must be thrown away. Majority of prepared baby meals in jars and pouches do not contain preservatives so they have very short shelf life. I only resort to jars and pouches when travelling outside my base. There's nothing like home made baby meals - it's cheaper and healthier. The same rule applies to baby yogurt. Any leftover should be discarded so as to avoid food poisoning.

Other mums can address your other questions.

With the breast pain, shivering and general feverish symptoms ..... probably mastitis or an inflamation of the breast ducts.

Take paracetamol
Apply a hot or warm compress. ( you can use a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel and place on he breast)
Try to feed baby from the breast or keep expressing. And massage the boob.
Also eat and stay well hydrated.
This will relieve the pain and the feverishness will subside after a couple of days.

Its weird that it feels like malaria, when he hardness and the pain in the breast reduces the other symptoms reduce as well.

Cc lawvlypearl

Note on the boldened.

Cabbage leaf has an enzyme that reduces the production of milk by the body. So if you are not in the process of stopping breast milk production ie weaning your child off breastfeeding, perhaps it is best to avoid the cabbage leave treatment for mastitis if you are still actively breastfeeding.
