OILSOUP: Several year ago, nairaland beamed with intellectual contents where you could find answers to many/any question, I had hope for Nigeria and my generation of Africans. How did things get this low, imagining your thought process is emotionally upsetting and there are now majority of crass people on this forum. The once revered forum has ended up recruiting less than mediocre folks under its roofs. Is this a societal problem in the larger sphere of life in this country. When I compare the comments I read on today's nairaland and the discussions I watch on Republic of China's CCTV channel and I feel sorry for the black race. 3 Likes |

Scholes007: If she is not willed she has no right to contest. It is you as a brother that out of your own freewill can help her out with something if the need exists. Traditionally, when a woman is out of marriage and comes back home the first son gives her land where she cultivates to sustain herself through her lifetime and the land reverts back to the family upon her demise. |

Go and pick on hausa/fulani or better yet focus on your yoruba tribe, u will get no problems. if u insist on bothering us, we are heading for a bloody conflict. It cost nothing to mind ur business. I am igbo and u are yoruba, it is clearly spelt out and i am not ur brother and neither were we created together. We all have a date with death and it is destiny but the way Nigeria is pushing us we will fast forward it to now and take u along. 3 Likes |

As always, thread has degenerated to insults, here are the facts for people who care to know. 1. Females do not inherit ancestral land in Igbo land as they are expected to inherit from their husbands. 2. Females inherit every other properties belonging to their father, including interstate properties. 3. If for any reason, a daughter quits her marriage and her dowry duly returned, she must be provided a place of abode in her father's compound, a farmland and economic trees if any. 8 Likes |

deliveryboy:. see as niggis just d claim e no d happen for their tribe. when an Igbo woman marries,it is assumed she now belongs to her husbands people that's why she takes up his surname. It is her husbands property she would claim (land included) and not her fathers landed property. if she happens to be divorced or unmarried, she now has a case. I would be surprised if other ethnic groups claim otherwise.the way things are going, very soon the woman would keep her surname after marriage. you can't expect the woman to share her fathers unwilled assets in addition to her husbands that one na comparative advantage nah!!! -husbands should begin to go to court to claim their wives family assets after all na "brother in the law" dem be. 2 Likes |

Scholes007:This is what is meant by the TRIBAL mentality .A people who only lived in hamlets until the white man came and gifted them baby hats. There is no record of any towns in which strangers lived in Igbo land before colonialism(They would have been eaten!) so no surprises . Every thing is UmuAkpu,Umu this and Umu that.
