I am not against any girl child from partaken in her fathers properties but it must be done with precautions. A girl child should only benefit from the properties if she is not yet married. A girl child can only partake in the properties if her mother only gave birth to girls. Ever since Nigerian courts gave this judgements there are many scenarios were a girl child is been oppressed by her husbands to sell her fathers properties even without the knowledge of the boy child. Later on the husband flees and dumps the girl child. There are igbo laws even the Nigerian Constitution can not touch and this is one of them. For those of you who think the girl child is not respected in igbo land I pity you, harm her and see if her Umu Nna will let you go scout free.

Nigeria Judicial system is miserable. Case of 1981 is decided in 2016, a whopping 35years after.

It was decided in 2014. Don't know why it's just being posted here. Well, since it ain't about boobs or snake.....

My sons wife who is not my flesh and blood has more right over my property than my daughter.

I see some Igbo men here are pained by this judgement cheesy grin

The thought of sharing their fathers property with their sisters is a horrible thought to some of them lol.

As for me tho, I believe both my sisters and I have rights to my father's property, and my father understands that, to God be the glory.

Abi dem say culture is dynamic and not static grin

The Israelis are not the Israelites of the Bible, you need to understand this point very well. The Bible was never about them and will never be about them. The protocols of the elders of zion is a satanic and godless book.

The original Israelites of the Bible are darkskinned and presently dispersed around the world, only upon the second coming of Jesus Christ will the real Jews and Israelites of the Bible be re gathered.

The Negroes are the original Israelites of the Bible. And they are the ones with the legal right to rule the earth, and they are coming back to rule when theur time in hell ends (Yes! They are currently in hell). And they will rule forever.

You are obviously a child.

It certainly isnt an igbo wide thing cos i remember when our kindred sold a land belonging to our late great grand mother, and the proceeds shared, so how did my great grand mother come into such large track of land?

Through ur great grand father. Women inherit their husband property.

Daughters are not suppose to inherit their father but can receive gift from their father. A gift can be anything from property to land.

She moves on to inherit from her husband, which she pass to her sons.

The lands or land needs acquiring first.

It's all the same thing, the issue here being that the woman's dad did not give here a "gift" in his will?

Apart from all that, how do you feel good about yourself if you let your sisters fend for themselves without a strong foothold, while you as a man balances to chop inheritance money?

If my only child is a girl child, any of my brothers or uncles that drag properties with her is dead! I will surely put that on my will. And will enforce it from anywhere I am.

No, bold people like us, force everybody on the right path. As long as they have us, we will get there.

Even Igbo women dont want their father property wen they can have a mumu yoruba retard like u, property.

My property goes to my wife and from her automatically to our sons and if we have none, my daughters but our ancestral land/property goes to my brother or next of kin.

But is your legally married wife not reasonably supposed to be your next of kin? At least she will have some right over the ancestral lands that way.

But man, you're simply what describes evil, malice and hatred.

Most dad give their daughter a gift on their wedding day or include it in a will. It is a parting gift.

It is not mandatory if she is in a comfortable marriage. If she is unmarried or divorced then the elders have to find a settlement for her within the family property. Consideration is given to the circumstances.

Most times wen u try to import a foreign element or culture u also import foreign problems.

Igbo culture on inheritance is perfect. We dont want our daughters going to clash with our daughter in law over properties.

We make it clear that from our son it goes to his wife. The fightin is now between the boys and believe me it is not an easy fight as sometimes they kill each other over property and land.

We have removed our daughters from all that ahead of time. U want to change it be prepared to face the new problems that will follow.

She can inherit ur property according to igbo customary law, but not ancestral property and land that goes to your brothers after the passing of your wife.

I see the distinction now between personally acquired property and ancestral lands. It makes a bit of sense sha and my sisters only got from the properties my dad built. Funny thing, all my dad has in the village is yet to be discussed upon. I guess battle line will be drawn soon.

Of course am referring to my properties, not ancestral lands even me self won't drag lands with them it's an easy route to death. But any property I worked hard to acquire if she's my only child and her mother is late no one dares drag that with her.

Wat u gave ur sister is a gift, as long as ur father had boyz she does not have a share in his property if she is married. Only if she is not married is she enttitled to a share with the boyz.

My dad gave them this "gift" himself, he directed me on what to assign to each of us, after which he personally took it to his lawyer to do the needful. I have two elder ones so i am in no position to make decisions all by myself.

Dat is igbo customary culture at play perfectly. A father makes provision ahead of time for his daughters. If not the mother can make a gift allocation to her daughters on behalf of the father within proportion and with consideration that she is temporal and unroute to her husband house or if already in husband house.

Ultimately, in igbo culture sons inherit their father. Like father, like son.

Thank you Kishimi tell them. That's why am so not marrying an Igbo even though am an Igbo lady as most them are so idiotic most especially those of them that has never crossed Niger bridge in their lives before. Imagine how their male fight over inheritance and against themselves but when it comes to taking care of their deceased brother's orphans and wives they are zero. Only very few of them take such great responsibility. Again there females are the ones who bothers to maintain the so called property they fight over or taking care of their widowed mother more the yeye sons who are after who to kill over a plot of land. Insha Allah my children will not have one stupid igbo uncle to drag properties with them.
