joseph1013: I will say Echiejile was more atrocious because his problems came from him not being in position. Unlike Ndidi who was beaten severally by brilliant dribbles. Not position. In France 98 Quarter finals between Brazil and Netherlands. Ronald De Boer, twin brother of the current Inter Milan coach, skinned Roberto Carlos repeatedly. The greatest wing dribbling I ever saw. Mystery how Finidi was far better than him. De Boer dribbled Carlos and put in many crosses to Patrick Kluivert who missed a lot of nodders. Mario Zagallo, Brazil Coach advised Carlos to stop marking Ronald De Boer and go and block the nods from Kluivert.(Chuckles) As soon as Carlos left Ronald free, Ronald had enough gap, to pick an accurate cross to Kluivert. Kluivert made no mistake and buried the goal. The header went in between Carlos legs. What I am trying to say is, although Ronald De Boer skinned Carlos repeatedly, as long as he had to work to cross, it was better than the freedom to cross. Echiejile gave the Zambians gap to hurt us but they had to work through Ndidi. I saw Ndidi as the better player. 1 Like |

goldfish80: You will not believe but Iwobi looked like Hleb to me. What occurred to me is that Iwobi studies a lot of matches to find things to improve his game. He looks a Prof in the making. He is a visionary. Frightening that he is still improving. Lolllll at the Lazy Ikeme. You nailed it perfectly. He looks lazy but today we saw a different player. There was a marvelous long ball he sent to S. Moses. I was like, "Did you see that?" He wanted the ball when the team was under pressure. I NEVER THOUGHT NIGERIA COULD REPLACE KANU UNTIL I SAW Iwobi. |

tbaba1234: Absolutely honest. Even the error came from a ball from Echiejile's side. You feel Echiejile was better because he was not there. Ndidi was in position most times. That is why you could see them skin him. |

Icon4s: Oga i do not agree, he could have easily cleared that ball with his leg. U can go back to the first half he did the same thing and conceeded a corner kick. He should have know that he could take no chances, just clear the ball. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by tbaba1234: 7:32pm On Oct 09, 2016 |
TheGoodJoe: It was a poor cross that should have been dealt with. Elderson was not exposed half as much as Ndidi and he offered help going forward. |

IyanuFanoro: May the best man win. Etebo is stronger than Iheanacho in the ten role. He will bring in more steel to the team. Iheanacho is the best up front. He will bring in more goals to the team. |

TheGoodJoe: They were crossing from the throwin line u don't expect any fullback to be positioned over there. |

tbaba1234: Echiejile was not exposed because he was not there. Ndidi was exposed because he was there. Omeruo was tackling a lot on the left. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Icon4s(m): 7:35pm On Oct 09, 2016 |
TheGoodJoe: I think i agree with Rohr on the role Iheanacho plays in the team: Just behind the main striker. He contributes a lot to the build up of attack and equally has the ability to finish off once in the position to do so. Watch the build up to our second goal and u would understand. Ighalo can still remain as the man striker. As for Etebo, we cannot adjust our formation just to accommodate him. He would have to unsit any of Iwobi, Iheanacho or Moses. This is no longer that mediocre Super Eagles where any player walks into the starting line up. You saw even our ever starting Ahmed Musa come in as a sub with just abt 6mins to go. This a new and better Super Eagles. 2 Likes |

BascoVanVeli: Where should he be positioned? He should block the crosses from his side of the wing. Something Omeruo did a lot. Echiejile worked very hard but his positioning left a lot of gaps. Did not plan to take shots at the hero. He really worked hard. |

TheGoodJoe: Not true.. he was not excellent but he was not poor. Ndidi was shaky from the start of the game. In the first half, kalanga blindsided him to get a point blank header. No way, he should be beating ndidi to the header. He twisted Ndidi, in the first half and annihilated him in the second. Elderson was not that dominated. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 7:39pm On Oct 09, 2016 |
Icon4s: I am not expecting an immediate feature of Etebo. He was long out and will need time to break in. I do not see him staying away for too long. His work rate is amazing. He might not exchange the ball as sweetly as Iheanacho but he will help keep any defensive midfielder under pressure. I see Etebo taking that place because of his work rate. Certainly he still has competition because Iheanacho combines sweetly with Iwobi and Mikel. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Icon4s(m): 7:39pm On Oct 09, 2016 |
BascoVanVeli: How could he have cleared a ball that bounced off about 7-8 feet in front of him. That would have even led to a penalty bc that would amount to raising his leg too high against Mbesuma. I accept that was a costly error on his part but we should also look at the other sides of his game. Over all he was fantastic. 1 Like |

tbaba1234: You still do not get it. Echiejile was off position most times. That was why Omeruo and Onazi put a lot of shift on the left. If they stuck to their roles... |

BascoVanVeli:I think Ive highlited our three centre back stats earlier on this thread. Omeruo, Ekong and Balogun. From what the stats say, Ekong is the better passer of the three, Balogun is a better ariel ball winner than the three, closely followed by Ekong because of height advantage (they both are 1.90m,while Omeruo stands at 1.85m),but Omeruo generally in defensive actions like tackles, blocks, interceptions and clearances was better than the other two. Today, he proved me right! In terms of his all round defensive contributions, that is interceptions, blocks and clearances he was a monster. Numbers don't lie,the match today proved that yet again. Although, his distribution is still not up to scratch. 2 Likes 1 Share |

BascoVanVeli: When Ideye missed that ball, I could imagine the amount of blood running through his head. Well we need to praise his thinking. He thought smart to chip the ball. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by BascoVanVeli(m): 7:43pm On Oct 09, 2016 |
TheGoodJoe: If I saw Ndidi hugging the touch line then u would have a point but it was obvious he was were his coach placed him. The Zambians changed tactics at halftime. We killed the midfield, the only thing we didn't do was place a Nigerian flag there, they could not play passes around our box and so they started launching longballs, the coach saw the why in came Esiti. As we noticed the crosses slowed down after that. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Icon4s(m): 7:44pm On Oct 09, 2016 |
TheGoodJoe: U know the calibre of players he will have to come against. Rohr seems to be a "big players" coach. Iwobi, Iheanacho, Mikel, Onazi seem to have gotten hold of the Midfield and AM positions. Etebo would have a lot to prove to break into the starting 11. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 7:46pm On Oct 09, 2016 |
BascoVanVeli: The point is simple. We saw them dribble Ndidi repeatedly. It was not positioning. In Echiejile's case, there were gaps. No need to dribble. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by tbaba1234: 7:47pm On Oct 09, 2016 |
TheGoodJoe: I disagree. Elderson was in position and was beaten a few times by pace and one time, he lost his man. He made very good interceptions sometimes. Ndidi was shaky, it was obvious that he was not comfortable in that position. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 7:49pm On Oct 09, 2016 |
Icon4s: I think he is also a coach ready to change things. With the way he invited Egbuchulam and Obaje to camp. His decision to keep Musa Mohammed in the squad. His decision to call Success. Ekong became a regular from the Olympics. He also knows we are still wasteful upfront. If Etebo can fill the midfield, he can use Iheanacho to help knock in goals. The only problem I see are the sweet combinations of Mikel, Iheanacho and Iwobi. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 7:52pm On Oct 09, 2016 |
tbaba1234: How did you see him in position? That ten had many free chances on our left. The main thing I saw is that we could not use Echiejile's runs because of the pitch. When we lost the ball, the were many times Echiejile was off. I doubt anyone will say Echiejile stayed back more than Ndidi. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by wayodude(m): 7:55pm On Oct 09, 2016 |
While not fantastic, Brown Ideye was very effective. His allround game is certainly superior to that of Ighalo, he makes his strike partner always look very good. I don't mean to criticise Igaho but so far wearing the Green of Nigeria he has not held up the ball well enough, has not linked up play in the final third as well as he ought to and he certainly hasn't been putting that round bag of air into the onion bag frequently enough, has he? He has been described in some circles as a one trick pony, which albeit a lovely trick has now been found out by defences in the EPL. He needs to work a lot harder! |

TheGoodJoe: You are totally right, Ndidi was better at that RB than Echiejile at the LB. Most of the zambians attacking threats came from that side, that no10 skinned him several times and successfully stripped him nakedly with that shot pass he deliver to that no9 that leaded to their goal. Ndidi kept kalaba in the right position, the dube had wrong crosses and shot. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by tbaba1234: 8:02pm On Oct 09, 2016 |
TheGoodJoe: The more dangerous chances came from the right, if only kalanga had better delivery after roasting Ndidi. The goal was from a poor cross that had no business reaching the striker. Elderson had an ok performance. He was not brilliant but Ndidi was shaky all through. |

How will Someone say Kenneth was better than Ekong in the match, they was no difference from the Kenneth we also know running upandan not compose, you can bet he'll make one error before fulltime abeg give me Ekong any day any time very compose with his tackles, very fantastic in the air, ball playing defender. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by BascoVanVeli(m): 8:07pm On Oct 09, 2016 |
Icon4s: It wasn't 7 or even 6, he had to bend down to head that ball, that was also his second time getting caught sleeping. To me it was a mental mistake more than anything. He has done this his last 3 of 4 matches also. Things like this can cost us like that clean sheet could have helped. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by Icon4s(m): 8:08pm On Oct 09, 2016 |
TheGoodJoe: More like he is trying to stabilize things and not to change things. Did u fhink Egbuchulam and Obaje would make the starting line up? We seemed to have attained some level of stability in certain positions in the team. Inviting new players would be a bid for us to have near stability in other positions too. |
