INEC ad-hoc staff storm APC Secretariat In Benin Over unpaid election money by sosanova: 6:46pm On Oct 12, 2016 |
BENIN – SOME protesters, who allegedly participated in the just concluded Edo State governorship election and claimed to be ad-hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, yesterday, stormed the secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, APC, on Airport Road in Benin City, to protest what they claimed was the non fulfilment of certain promises made to them by the party The INEC adhoc staff were last Friday at INEC office to protest to INEC for their balance but were dispersed by the police. . However, state Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mr Godwin Erhahon, while reacting to the claim, said “We at the APC, especially members of the State Executive are not aware of such commitment between the party and the ad-hoc staff. “We have asked those who are complaining to let us know who made the pledge on behalf of the party. We don’t know anything about it and by the time we know those behind it, we will be able to react. We know that ad-hoc staff are staff of INEC and not the party. So, I symphatize with the protesters.” Also, the party (APC), state Chairman, Anslem Ojezua, claimed that the invasion of the party secretariat was by persons he described as hoodlums allegedly sponsored by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. According to him, “They claimed to be ad-hoc staff of INEC and that they came to collect money we were owing them for the just concluded governorship election.” The protesters, who were mainly youths, gathered in front of the premises of the APC secretariat about 11a.m., and insisted that they must meet with a certain leader of the party before they would depart. They said that they decided to protest because of an alleded unfulfilled assurance given them that they would be rewarded after the September 28, election. After waiting for about two hours, some members of the group threatened to spill the beans if their demands were not met. Use and Dump Party, I don't blame the party but the people who still went ahead to work with them despite the party's antecedents, the populace should learn to drill every party asking for their votes hard because once the party gets to power, it automatically becomes a lord of some sorts and won't give a hoot abt the voters anymore till election year again with cap in hand begging for our votes again. So we shouldn't allow them to sway us with their rhetoric or appeal to our emotions, they must do things to benefit us,i think there is the need to introduce mid-term elections in Nigeria so that we can kick out those redundant politicians who ve nothing to offer apart from amassing wealth to our detriment. |

The protester should explain further on what the promise is made for. If it is bribe to allow apc to win election and they did so, meaning they should arrest them and take them straight to prison without any trial in court of law. I don't know why people are so gullible that somebody will pay protester to make their case look credible. |
