Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr has advised players of the Super Falcons to "have fun but be serious" ahead of their defence of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon next month.

Rohr declared on Tuesday that the Super Falcons can become the champions of Africa for the eighth time in Cameroon, where the 10th Women Africa Cup of Nations will take place from 19 November to 13 December.

"You must have a good team spirit because it is very important to not just play together but bond together and have fun in training and in the camp as well," Rohr said in a Nigeria Football Federation release on Wednesday. He visited the Nigerian senion women's national team at their training ground in Abuja.

"To have fun but to be very serious. It is what we do in the Super Eagles team. We have the family spirit of oneness and togetherness. Not just like a team but to live like a family. With this, you can become champions again. And I am going to be in Cameroon to support you.

"I see some girls here today but I know that professionals will join them very soon. Very good players, some of them play in big countries like USA, Sweden, France. The other teams in Nigeria group don't have many of such players I think. So, it's a good team and you also have experience."

what he said can still make sense in a 4-2-3-1. The 'marker' and the 'runner' will be positioned as the double pivot, obviously the runner will be the one who will move further up the pitch to intercept passes when the opponents are still in their half while also being able to come back and cover as the second DMF when we lose possession. The passer can be the person behind the striker which is still the AMF, while Iwobi and Moses will still occupy the flanks. Infact a passer, a marker and a runner can work in almost every formation except a rigid 4-2-4 formation, the only thing he did is that he replaced Ideye with Esiti unlike the like for like replacement i mentioned.

And if you consider this, it makes sense, somebody duly mentioned that when Onazi pushed forward he was able to intercept passes further up the pitch, something Mikel wasn't able to do for a long time, so let's play to Onazi's strength, he loves to run, let him cover more ground, once he intercepts the passes then Mikel(who is the passer) and any of the LMF or RMF(depending on the position of the play) can immediately come and take the ball from his feet, in this way he won't have to misplace too many long balls. Three players of the Super Eagles of Nigeria have in separate chats confirmed to
Owngoalnigeria.com that, Gernot Rohr has made a positive impact on their mentality when it comes to games.


One of the players said unlike past coaches of the team, the German coach gives them lot of confidence when it comes to games, and usually advised them to enjoy themselves on the pitch.


”He talks to every player. He doesn’t discriminate, to him every player is the same but the last two coaches of the team were not like that” He told Owngoalnigeria.com.


Another player said, he doesn’t give too much
instructions on the pitch, which has allowed the
players the freedom to express themselves
properly during games.

But since 2013, Nigeria has produced more talented young players than they've done.
You made mention that they are on the rise once again(citing their olympic gold achievement)... Okay!!! so we are. But don't forget Brazil's past achievement paved way for them. They still struggled on their way to olympic glory despite all the stars they got.

Imagine what could have happened if our own young stars(M. Mohammed, Iwobi, success, Nacho,s. moses etc...) were released by their clubs for d games just has d brazillians got theirs. Maybe t could have been Neymar's turn to cry.(E STILL DE PAIN ME SAY D WORLD COULDN'T SEE ONE OF THE BEST ASSEMBLED YOUNG TEAM play @ the olympics)

If Nigeria has a solid league, we will be able to groom talents better.

I think we need to have an under 17 league with mandatory MRI tests.. The results will be outstanding..

You're right Sir GoodJoe...... We need to really keep the pool running deep.

We can organise matches for them or hustle for invitations to youth tournaments that they can always compete in against top oppositions.

So much can be done to fill in the year gap that 2017 will give our football at the cadet and youth levels before we start putting together the next set of U-17s and U-20s by early 2018.
