Why are we always at odds with global trends? While internet access cost is plummeting with technological advancements, our legislature is seeking ways to increase tariff to the detriment of teeming researchers and students who are the major beneficiary. What social or cooperate responsibility would these telecom companies claim they render to us their customers? In M.I'd voice. "what a tragedy"

Which ever company who don't like the idea.. . Should pull out. . Enough of all this rubbish A GDP of over 420bn dollars yet revenue are not even up to 50 billion dollars... atleast we should be able to raise over 120 bn dollars as revenue per day if we do our home work well With that 50k minimum wage wont even be a problem. . |

mrvitalis: Till our govt becomes responsible no Nigerian will be a lover of indiscriminate taxing ..I pay company income tax , I pay and also remit VAT and these days no day goes by without me getting slammed the 50 stamp duty and yet I don't see what the govt does with than spend it paying theirselves obscene salaries like rockstars No country have ever grown by depending on taxes from its own people to develop because it will end up having an aquarium effect the same amount of wealth just keeps circulating without any real growth ..our govt need to develop it's gas resources for now and also attempt to be a giant in petrochemical industrialization instead of a mere crude oil seller. Let's open our minds and ditch this omonile style economics of extortion that hasn't helped us thus far 1 Like |

mrvitalis: Much money in the hand of government encourages embezzlement. Unless you are a socialist that encourages laziness through unmitigated social welfare instead of charity championed by individuals/philanthropists to the less privileged in the society. The more employment the more PAYE and levies the government collect. You don't over tax the poor to avoid malnutrition and extreme hunger. Secondly Nigeria is occupying one of the last positions in the ladder of countries at ease of doing business hence you can't impose anti-business laws at the expense of the job creation and direct foreign investments. |

mrvitalis: There are many types of taxes in Nigeria and in other countries. This one in question is different from PAYE (Pay as you earn) To attract investment, most countries even give foreign companies five years free tax holidays. In Nigeria, we have investment incentives which include free tax holidays for certain number of years for local companies. Heavy and unnecessary taxation discourages investments. |

Re: World Mobile Group Opposes Plans To Impose 9% Tax On Nigerian Phone Consumers by MadamExcellency: 7:58pm On Oct 19, 2016 |
mrvitalis: You don't understand the issue under dispute as per the topic. Let me explain, the government wants to tax every Nigerian including students, businesses etc, 9% for every call, text message and data used in Nigeria through telecom providers. It means you can only use N91 out of every N100 credit you load for telecom services. Secondly, in this arrangements, the telecom service providers also get richer by collecting their percentage from the government at the expense of ordinary Nigerians. |

Re: World Mobile Group Opposes Plans To Impose 9% Tax On Nigerian Phone Consumers by MadamExcellency: 8:34pm On Oct 19, 2016 |
mrvitalis: The telecom operators are not paying a kobo out of it rather they will be making billions of Naira from the venture. You pay N9 out of every N100 credit card you load while Nigeria government collects N7, the telecom providers get compensated by N2 for every N100 credit card you load |
