Mikel excited to be nominated for African Player of The Year Award

Biyi Akangbe

Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel is proud to be nominated alongside two other Nigerians, Ahmed Musa and Kelechi Iheanacho on the 2016 African Player of the Year nomination list.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) over the weekend released a 30-man nomination list for this year’s award, which has continue to generate reactions from stakeholders of the game.

The Chelsea midfielder took to his twitter handle to express his feelings about the nomination.

“Proud for Nigeria to be nominated for @CAF_Online African Footballer of the Year along with @67Kelechi and @7Myca,” Mikel wrote on twitter.

29-year-old Mikel inspired Nigeria to win bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics, Nigeria’s vice-captain; Ahmed Musa made impact with CSKA Moscow as they emerged Russian champions, before his big-money move to Leicester City.

The third Nigerian on the list, Kelechi Iheanacho shone like a star in his debut Premier League season with Manchester City, and has also proved himself under new manager, Pep Guardiola in the current season.

One of the favourites for the award is current holder, Pierre Emerick Aubemeyang of Gabon and Borussia Dortmund. Others are Algerian playmaker Riyad Mahrez, who was voted the best player of the last Premier League season by his fellow professionals among others.

In all, three Algerians were nominated, just like Nigeria; Cote d’Ivoire is the other country with three nominees on the list.

Na me play all of them? Na my fault say dem dey records? grin

Mr "single-story" facts... Abeg, Solanke (as good as I rate him) na bench material for our golden generation. He no fit displace even Tammy Abraham sef... grin

All you do is jump around like a hyper-ventilated gangster looking to defend his favorites with biased analyses and arguments devoid of sound reasoning....

Besides, one more thing... Was I addressing you that I "am trying hard to find words from your mouth"??

Bia this guy.... You need to cool down and gather your wits first. LEMME QUOTE THEGOODJOE... "You argue on reflex" grin looooolllll

25 Starts, Seven goals as a top Striker and we can not hear word on this Solanke. As I said before, I wish him the best but I can not argue bench material at Chelsea is better than a player starting games for Manchester City. Especially after City spanked Chelsea repeatedly.

Exclusive: NFF, Rohr Divided Over Moses, Success Super Eagles Recall

Augustine Akhilomen

An inside source in the Nigeria Football Federation has revealed to Soccernet.com.ng exclusively that the move by the Super Eagles technical adviser, Genort Rohr to invite the Premier League duo of Victor Moses and Isaac Success ahead of next month's FIFA World Cup qualifier against Algeria, have been received with diverse minds.

Moses and Success missed the team's 2-1 win over the Chipolopolo of Zambia in Ndola a fortnight ago, sighting injuries as excuses for their inability to make the encounter.

In a published story on Completesports on October 7, the NFF, who were unhappy with the players’ failure to join the Super Eagles, had planned to suspend them for subsequent games.

However, with the recent development surrounding the brilliant form of Moses, who scored in Chelsea's 3-0 whitewashing of Leicester City Saturday's Premier League and Isaac Success, who had a decent performance in the colours of Watford on Sunday against Middlesbrough, Rohr has indicated plans to invite them for the match against Algeria in Uyo on November 12.

The German tactician's decision has been met with discontentment as the source disclosed that some key members of the football federation are still frowning on the invitation of Moses and Success to the senior national team.

"We have really not concluded on whether Victor Moses and Isaac Success should be invited for the November 12 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Algeria considering the fact that the decision of the two players to miss the encounter against Zambia was not truly justified,” the inside source told soccernet.com.ng

"Although there are plans by the Super Eagles technical adviser to extend invitation to them for the Algeria match, however, a few of our members are yet to veto their invitations because they are indirectly selecting matches they want to play, something which won't be condoned.‎

"It is true that we want our best players to feature against Algeria but then, a situation where players are not committed and hungry to play for their country, I don't think they merit to be listed,” he said.

Please, NFF members, face your work and do not interfere with Rohr's plans. I thought you guys defined no interference to us when you ran to FIFA many times.

Do not let me pick up plank.

Imagine Sir... 25 starts, 7goals for Vitesse Arnhem

Tammy Abraham even have better stats at Bristol City in the English championship.

He's asking how many goals Nacho and Success scored for the youth sides of Man City and Granada... BUT I ASK, HOW MANY GAMES DEM PLAY SEF?? Loooollllll

Nacho played about 11 or 12 youth games and produced 8 goals and several assists. His last youth game, he provided two assists in man city's EDS 3-1 win and that was under pellegrini last season as Pelle was "annoyingly" slowly introducing him into the first team.

Success was on goals riot when featuring for Granada B, at a time, his goals ratio was 8goals in 8games... So wetin this "SOLANKE FAN BOY" DEY TALK SEF??

Plsss contact Yara Yara for your "super plank" wants... He's also into "brain-resetting" planks sales. A section of my labs have produced planks that send signals to the dentata hippocampi, prefrontal cortex, the limbic system and a few other brain areas...... To reset moods and memories and make "right decision-making" easy..... grin

I call it, "the Plank-neourolyser" wink

We also have plank-deneurolysers... grin

Yeah, age caught up with Nwosu after Maroc '88. One questions whether he was really 17 @ Nigeria '80.

Adepoju was more of an AMF, though he could play also as a CMF.
Just like today severally AMFs then could be drafted as CMFs.
But the main CMF under Westerhof before JJ Okocha was Thompson Oliha.

Did Adepoju ever play as a DMF?

Yes he did at AFCON 2000 : against Morocco and Senegal

Well, those were his later years but not under Westerhorf.

I remember he covered for Sunday Oliseh who was down with maleria. But that was not his primary role.
