So i am here with my testimony.

Emirates from Lagos 17th oct evening. Those officials searching luggages by Emirate counter just b4 checking nd tagging ur luggages, requested for 3k because of d foodstuff I carried. DH just gave them 1k. Then at d point of getting my boarding pass, an emirates staff requested for my fit to fly, gave a copy. I had 4 copies with me.

Then went on board. Lagos to Dubai was a full flight but quite comfortable, In-flight entertainment was good wit wifi, good food nd a smooth flight.
Had about 4 hours layover in Dubai but wasnt really noticeable cos d distance btw d arrival gate to departure gate for the Houston leg of d trip was quite much, despite taking train nd elevators.

Next to boarding d connecting flight, was asked for the doc cert, i gave d emirates official another copy, she checked and typed somethings and returned it to me. Then we set out for Houston.

Quite a journey, 16 hours but enjoyed it cos i had d whole 3 seats to myself (even though d plane was almost full), food nd drinks were in abundance. Had to pay $1 for d wifi on board after i exhausted d 10mins limited wifi. Was in touch wit my people all thru d flight.

Landed in Houston in d afternoon of 18th, walked all thru, no need for a wheel chair. Saw 2 other pregnant naija women on my flight but was d 1st to be attended cos i got down from d plane ontime. Unfortunately, d queue was very long cos about 5 flights arrived almost at d same time.

So d interview wit d CBP

CBP: Why re u in d US?
Me: to ve my baby
cbp: who is sponsoring d trip?
Me: DH
CBP: How much will it cost?
Me: 16500
Cbp: let me see ur papers
Me: gave him letter of accomodation from soj, soj letter confirming dat dey re holding d hosp fees in escrow for me, dr. Dama letter showing i ve part paid
Cbp: why US?
Me: better healthcare nd to avoid unnecessary complications i had wit ny 1st baby
Cbp: nodded his head, did u inform d embassy?
Me: yes, i applied for a medical visa
Cbp: wen re u expecting d baby?
Me: nxt month
Cbp: were u showing wen u went to d embassy?
Me: yes at 6 months
Cbp: scans nd snapped me. stambs me in for 6 months.

Picked my bags nd went on to agriculture, d queue was abit long.
Officer: wat do u ve?
Me: pap, beans, milk
Officer: ok, u may go.

And dts ow i got out.

Straight nd short. Thanks to all NL mamas for d valuable info i got here.

Hmm.....not sure thats totally correct cos it is part of my antenatal drugs and was scheduled for me to use once every month until October. I'm due early November. Unfortunately, I didn't bring it along with me to Yankee hence d reason I asked on this thread. Any particular reason u mentioned it is not supposed to be used after 36wks?? @firsttymum
firsttymum:

Hmmm fansidar isn't used after 35 to 36 weeks o... So I suggest u demand for something else.

I believe firsttymmum is right.. reason being that fansidar has this side effect- jaundice in the baby especially in the last few weeks of pregnancy because of its Sulphur component. Moreso, it isn't a routine drug; preferably taken in the late first and second trimester (meaning two doses in the entire 10months of pregnancy) as prophylaxis against malaria.

Has anyone delivered in Dallas or Arlington area? Which Hospital or Dr would you recommend and what are the prices? I will appreciate relatively cheap ones with good services too. Also discounts if possible? Thanks

Fansidar in Preg
Pls don't use before 20wks & after 35wks. Complications include jaundice of d newborn, stillbirth etc cry
Indomie Update
So I decided not to travel wit naija food for fear of extra delay at POE. Finally tried oyinbo noodles in USA for d first time in history. Verdict - not bad at all. Simply garnish ur own style, add stew, plenty onions & veggies. Most importantly, for ur mind, imagine u're in eating it in naija. Trust me, it works! No need to carry cartons of nooodles- unless like some peeps case, on special host's demand cool #SuperYum #PresidentialDebateLoading

read through the thread. lots of people have given birth in the dfw area even as recent as this month with accounts like 3 or 4 pages back. You can type dallas hospitals in the search bar and narrow your search to the travel section. you should also Google hospitals close to the area where you will be and call them as well as physicians (obgyns) affiliated with the hospital.

@Firstymum and Tolu, please which other medicine can one take to prevent malaria during pregnancy. My doctor told me that the use of metaprim ( the Sunday Sunday medicine ) is outdated and fansidar is not safe.

Your best bet will be to stay in an apartment where there are other preggy mums if possible, ones with toddlers too so you can help each other. While you are in labour, the person can take care of your baby while you do same while she's in labour. If you see someone and start making the arrangement from Naija here b4 traveling, then better.

Pls does this Lyca mobile call USA as well as naija? Cos u only mentioned 300 mins to call naija. Pls anyone with details help. I'm not feeling this T-Mobile tho Whatsapp has been my saving grace. Thanks.
Who posted free coupon for Uber or Lyft? I need am now wink

Hello all,
I just remembered an app I used instead of uber. It is called lyft,it gives u 5 or 10 free ride up to $10 each before it starts charging you unlike uber. It's also very easy to download and the drivers are fast to meet up with u.
As for sim, the best (maybe to me) is lycramobile for $29 per month and u can easily recharge online unlimited text&300 min to call Nigeria plus plenty megabytea to watch movies.
N.B Am not marketing oooo, just a way of reducing cost with the way dollars and naira are not smiling in these so called recession. 3 month here have learnt how to just manage myself.

Yes it does. It calls Nigeria 300mins with the $29 plan but then u can airtime as low as $10 on net just in case u fInish the 300 mins within a month and u can call anyone in the u.s free when ur airtime is exhausted. Just download lyft and it would give u free ride BTW $20-50. Just download from play store

I don't know how cheap u are looking for. But I had my babies in Dfw but stayed in Arlington. The name if the hospital is Harris Methodist Hospital fort Worth about 300mins from Arlington although there are some other hospitals in Arlington.
V.D is $4200
C.S is $5000
It depends on the Dr u want to use,u have to look for drs yourself. Prices range from $2000-$3000.
The hospital Is very very good &they are effective and efficient.

Please house, has anybody bought dollar at Travelex this week? if yes, Lagos or Abuja? and at what rate?

Travellex Lagos was a mad house when i went there. They had a list that was at 115 as at 11am on Monday. The were still on 25 that was when i knew that the music had changed. It was so chaotic. I made my enquiries and jejely left the place.
