One of my twin boys has cough and catarrh since Monday this week i took them to the hospital and the first one has been cured but the second one is still have running nose. They are 5months today. Please what can i do to eliminate the running hose. They have both taken antibiotics.

U can do hot inhalation/steaming for him but don't add anything just d hot water is okay, if mucus comes out, you can help him suck it out gently if you can. Just suck the way you suck bone marrow.

i am following your footsteps in EBF.
am about to resume work and am also trying to leave at least 600ml at home.
have started storing them in the freezer.

my question is about thawing the milk,
1. how do u know when to bring it out for the baby to drink and how long does it takes to get warm?

It takes about 8 hours to thaw in the fridge, better to thaw in fridge than at room temp. I bring out tomorrows own in the evening when I get home. Leave in fridge till baby is ready to drink, then warm required quantity in warm water.

2. when i wash and sterilize my baby's bottles, there is still some water there, how do i air dry to remove all traces of water, so the breast milk will not mix with the water there.

I boil in hot water for this very reason. They dry very fast as all the water drips off, then I place upside down in a sieve and hang the sieve on a bowl or any other way air can get in from below.

3. i also want to be expressing in the office, can i express and keep in the fridge then bring it out and go home with it. it will not be cold again before i get home.

I do this, but I usually get home in less than an hour. Otherwise buy a good food warmer, will keep the milk cool till you get home. I bought mine 1,800 but have ended up not using it.

4. i store in lansinoh storage bags for now, but it can not be reused. might have to get your kind of bottles too. please post the link where you got it from.

Enter market or supermarket and buy the cheapest feeding bottles you see. Budget between 150 and 400 per bottle. I think I found a pack of four - 2 big and 2 small for like 1k, and in a supermarket for that matter. But when I boiled them the covers changed shaped lol. The bottle and nipple are still okay sha.

5. is there a specific timing you have to stop when using thebreast pump. is 30minutes okay or too much.

My friend can pump manually for an hour, manually I usually do 15-30 minutes, with my electric i never exceeded 30 minutes. But my reason for short sessions is laziness/unwillingness to stay still for long.

I got d storage cups from mumsfave.u can google dem.its cheaper.but jumia sells too.
For breastmilk thawing .u have to moontor ur baby to know what intervals she feeds.mine is every 2hrs.dou her shakara don plenty now
So i bring out one cup for 8am.each cup contains 120 to 140mls. By 8am it has thawed and it is warmed in warm water.while feeding her MIL brings out second cup for 10am.before 10.it has thawed.like that till i come back by 4 to 5pm. Then i breastfeed directly .
For the storage bags or cups.get a thermal bag.get icepacks or freeze ur bottle water.after expressing.kip in the fridge.when u want to go home.put the cold breastmilk in the thermalbag and add the icepacks or blocked bottle water.to keep d milk chilled till u get home then transfer to ur freezer.

To the bottle.me after washing n sterilizing i airdry by turning the bottle upside and erhmm i dont knw the english word i jus hold d bottle and swing my hand up n down u get the pishur
That way i hasten the airdrying process.

FACTS TO KNOW ABOUT "OKA"

1. The "soft hole or space" often erroneously believed to be an abnormality is A NORMAL PART of the baby's head. It is called ANTERIOR FONTANELLE (AF).

Every baby has it. It is there to allow along with the small spaces (sutures) between the different bones of the skull to accommodate the baby's brain growth. So it is not "OKA" or any other thing....It is a normal part of the baby's head.

2. The anterior fontanelle (AF) is covered by a membrane, and this membrane is what actually separates the baby's brain from the environment. It is that important! So any application of substances that can damage this membrane will lead to exposure of the brain to the environment with serious consequences like in the story above.


3. The fact that in some babies, very hairy or chubby especially, that you can not see it pulsating or "breathing" in local naija parlance does not mean it is not there. Some mums have actually said their babies do not anterior fontanelle! That is not true....every baby is born with one!

4. The size and shape of the AF varies from one baby to another normally. In some conditions, it can be too big. Also the anterior fontannelle can be elevated "bulging" in some conditions especially if the baby has infections in the brain. It can be depressed "sunken" in other conditions like in babies that are very dehydrated or malnourished.

Please note that in these conditions, it is not the AF causing the disease symptoms (for example diarrhoea and dehydration with sunken AF). Rather, the AF is just reflecting the fact that something is wrong in the body systems.

It is important to say this because this is one of the reasons some mums believe in "OKA". Such babies are sick and may either have prominent or sunken AF in addition to other symptoms. The "OKA doctors" will now say it is the "oka" causing the symptoms.

The danger of this belief is all treatments will be directed to the AF and the underlying disease causing the change in AF will be ignored. Also some of the native medications often use d have dangerous side effects and consequences especially on the immature liver and kidneys of the babies causing further damage...."fry pan to fire" scenario!!!

5. The AF closes on its own by age of 18 - 24 months. This is because more than 90% of brain growth and development has occurred by the age of 2 years. You did not need to do anything about it. It happens on its own. Just to note that some diseases can cause delay in closure of the AF. See your paediatrician if you can still feel the AF in your baby after age 2 years.

6. You did not need to apply oil to the AF hourly or daily....highly unnecessary and the dripping oil will cause rashes on the baby's face. The AF is not "drying up" like many naija mums believe. You also do not need to put thread from cloth. You also do not need to mop AF with hot water or apply any substances local or herbal on it. JUST LEAVE THE AF ALONE!!!

7. Finally if your baby is sick with or without observed changes in the AF, please go to the Hospital immediately. Don't assume and don't accept the "OKA" diagnosis. Please see your doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment. A stitch in time saves nine!

If there's any problem with your baby's skin, post here and sabi mamas will do their best to proffer solution.

Please don't rub white capsule or unnecessary medication on your baby's skin. We've even started avoiding medicated soap that is washed off, talk less of home made medicated cream.

For ebf your baby does not need water. Breast milk is already eighty percent water.

yeah. With d normal yellowish seedy stuff but has green undertone. The frosty bit comes when farts accompanies the poo so I'm guessing its d gas that's missed with d poo to cause the bubbly effect

And The wheezing I can still hear it but reduced though. I have been giving her vitc once daily, started three days ago.

3),What can I use oo. And one more thing, she doesn't suck that well. I'd even force her to suck after five minutes and she will begin to cry. Five minutes and she's done, will remove her mouth and off to sleep. What can I do? I am lactating enough and I even learnt to express the foremilk out a bit before I breastfeed so that the little she takes is d hindmilk. She sleeps and sleeps and sleeps. Feeds inky like five times in a day, maybe twice at night, even with abidec.

3) when she feeds these days, she poos while or right after feeding and it is green and a lil foamy. She hardly poos now and only when she feeds or just fed.

4) what can i use for diaper rash? Its this red patch on her vulva and butthole. Should i change hee diaper? We used huggies withe a ribbed effect and now we use one without. Someone recommeded Pampers premium.


She is 6 weeks old now.

1. Mine does the same stretching anytime he wants to poo. Doctor says nothing is wrong with it....they outgrown it from 3months or so...

2. We couldn't see the picture you attached sha so can't tell

3.same thing happened to me. He will sleep off after 5-10minutes of sucking, I wasn't lactating well so there was nothing to suck obviously. ...please stop expressing and wasting your fore milk out...your Baby needs both fore and hind milk tho hind milk is more nutritious

4. Green poo is an indication of an infection and baby not getting enough milk. You might need to see a Doctor to rule out infection. Have you gone for 6weeks checkup and immunization? What's her weight?

5. Do you apply Vaseline or shea butter on her bumbum before wearing her diapers? Sudocrem is fine too

As per d checkup, going on Saturday. They messed up my vaccination date suppose be today but they said to comw satueday tho. Qeighed 2.6 at birth, 3.2 at two weeks. Not checked after that.

My son is 10 days old and cried all thru d night yesterday
He was extremely agitated even after being fed and changed.
Is it too early for him to have colic?
Also I have not been religiously taking hot pepper soup and uda. I have taken cold water on some occasions. Is this really bad?
My tummy has been going down on its own without hot water pressing tying. Does tying hasten d process?
My Lochia has almost stopped too. Is this normal after 10 days post Partum. I am still scared if tying my tummy as I can feel my uterus when I touch my tummy, l don't want to injure my self

That was how my friends advised me to melt ori and mix with funbact A and dettol for my baby to use as body cream from 2 weeks old another said I should dilute salon with water and be using it to rub his body just because they want baby's skin to be fair and smooth. I just told them OK.

Me that I am team Vaseline or ori, anyone that is available between the two and up till now, no single trace of rashes on him.

God help us with end time advice all because dem born before person.

Congratulations!

Colic happen in their first 3 months of life, so I won't say its too early. Help baby massage his navel/tummy morning and evening, massaging as in u put a piece if cloth inside hot water, squeez and place on the it, remove then place again. Then, occasionally put baby on his tummy while sleeping but pls, don't do that unsupervised, u will have to watch over him.

Pls, I will advice you stop that cold water now, I know its tempting but try.

I did not tie any cloth or wear ppbelt neither did I press my tummy, but my tummy is back to its pre-pregnancy state though not immediately. That Lochia can be deceiving sometimes, it can stop for awhile only to return after.

Pls don't allow do this do that from outsider confuse u o, that thing can be annoying.

My baby nvr had colic... I nvr used grape water. In fact I had no drug except pcm and na cos of immunization things.. Truth is I prayed against colic everyday whilst pregnant cos I heard bout d unpleasant experience.. God answers prayer u know... Evn teething, my son brings out teeth wit no issue at all... His 9mnths wit 5 teeth already..
Sumthing myt seem not necessary but wen u commit to God's hand, He takes care of it..
