Marble can be stained to what ever colour you want.

YOu do not stain or colour or put pattern on marble, they are cut rough from big stones then polished,
We use to have a company in town and I worked there as a boy during them times.The Italians are good at this.So the paterns are natural not man made hence its unique.

Here in Nigeria most people preferred granite to marble bcs most marble do change colour, mostly if you use white or cream colour it will soak oil and turn something reddish in colour, although it happens to China low grade granite mostly rosabeta and rosapink, but it takes time before this can occur, something like 3 or more yes

That was one of the reasons I used granite, cos it was for a tenant and I thought they don't really care about your worktop, so something hard wearing like granite will be the best. My brother used laminate top for his tenanted flat, at the end of the tenancy, it was all burnt out because the tenant put hot pots, and knife marks, it looked so horrible, he had to redo the whole kitchen again.
