Bonejr: Forget all this your long story. Save your powerless empty grammar o jare! Why should any reasonable Nigerian respect any useless teacher? Yes, very useless teachers. That is what WE have made them to be! If they are not useless and our society has not made them useless, why would a 25 year old who only needs to have ATTENDED secondary school be paid N300,000 as an ordinary LGA Councillor who does nothing while a teacher hardly gets up to N15,000 Was that the COMPARATIVE gap in salaries between these two categories of workers for the SAME government in the 1st Republic before stupid Nzeogwu did his first military coup that opened the door for our collective defilement by senseless, illiterate zombie soldiers? Is this the COMPARATIVE salary gap in the UK, Canada, USA etc where many Nigerians are happily teaching their oyinbo children? Pandorabox:Hmmm....well stated! I also believe that from Day One a teacher needs to let the class know his/her purpose of being there and remind students why their parents are making sacrifices to have them in school.... that both teacher and student need to cooperate with each other for all to be successful. Be on top of this and trust me... anyone that crosses the line would be put in check by their classmates. |

Been teaching Economics in a government school for over 10 years. And before that time in my days as a secondary student myself alot of negative things had been happening. We see students who despite the jovial and friendly nature of the teacher, would still disrespect him to prove to his friends that he is mean. Like it or not, back then 1989 when I started JSS1 we have teachers who wouldn't flog you for doing nothing wrong. Morals had been eroded. |

And some teachers yes, needs to be fair and not be too judgemental but the truth is students of nowadays are too wayward and have been carried away with alot of distractions. Was teaching one day and one of the students was caught watching porn . Parents are to discipline and train their wards the proper way,if not the teacher would be the one to suffer when he tries to correct the rot. Teachers are to be respected and cherished not asking the teacher what he needs to do to be respected. That's an insult to the guy who has taught you how to even write the words you're using here. You're one of those students who disrespect the guy that made you who you are today, believe it or not! |

Back then teachers aren't paid well and some of them collects money from students. Nowadays teachers are well paid and they do ride very big cars and wear designer shoes and bags with their ipad and iPhone and tablets. We don't stood so low and we know those students who are responsible and we know those who aren't. We try all our best to ensure we impart positively into the life of the students. We go online which wasn't done during our days in class to show real.life pictures and images using ng Google etc to teach. Advanced teaching methods are being employed and our students if not all value the impact we have had in their lives. I teach in Aunty Ayos Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School In Ikoyi, and we have recored outstanding performances. What you need the tell those who.cared to listen is to be obedient to their teachers and follow what they are being told. Leave the Pastor or disciple and follow the preaching. Simple. We deserve some respect for the hardwork done to improve your lives and we did that expecting nothing in return. Absolutely nothing! I receive prayers from.students that passed through me and have graduated from higher institutions till.today. So,those ones is enough we don't need the crowd to appreciate what we have done. jellybabee: Irrespective of the cloths you have, it is important you understand colour combination and dress smart. The number of Cloths or the Price does not really matter it all depends on how good your Dress-sense is. So learn basis dress sense, press using pressing-iron, use the right colour combination and carry yourself with dignity. Don't talk to parents just leave them to their problems. Also pray the Lord for Guidance. More importantly be cheerful and happy and treat the kids you teach with good sense of Humor (Love, Willingness and Care) |

Teachers are one of the most fantastic individuals that build Us and make us who we are and what we have become . It is pitiful that their salary scale is nothing to write home about. well A teacher has a role to play in earning the respect he deserve. He has to be fair, friendly ,caring and neat but beyond that Respect is what they deserve. |

How on earth will Nigerian teachers be respected when the price of a bag of rice is more than teacher salary. Which way my country?? |
Re: Teachers! How To Get Your Respect Back by Nobody: 8:29pm On Oct 22, 2016 |
Bonejr: Good points. Have you also considered some external factors that could lead to "disrespect"? For instance, back in the day, kids didn't have as much access to information. But today, you'll be surprised at what those innocent-looking 5-year-olds know. And they feel they know more than their teachers. Again, let's face it: our society today celebrates "celebrities" and "money-bags", not teachers. Building the right values starts from the home. So a huge part of gaining respect for teachers depends on what we value in our families. We need to value teachers in our homes, and tell our kids to avoid all those weird guys with tattoos, and the other ones who advertise their spending on Facebook every day. Cheers! 1 Like |
