Gear Box Problem? Read My Experience. by seal777(m): 11:28am On Mar 22, 2010 |
If education is expensive, try ignorance. Most of us who are car users are very conversant with periodic oil and filter changes which keep the car engine running smooth and lasting but how about the gear box? Having changed the ball joint hose on both side of my car, there was a little shift, so i decided to have an alignment done at the filling station. While the alignment was been done, I remembered having read on the internet while doing some search of the need to check gear box oil and have it changed to keep the gear box running so I ask the engineer to help check my gear oil and to my charging surprise he ask me a question which I answered. He ask if I have ever changed the gear oil and do i notice a hard shift between the gears?. In 4 years, i can’t remember changing the gear box oil and i av had a hard shift in the gear of late but no too frequent. He told me my gear oil is flat beyond normal and my gear box is at risk and also wonder how my gear was still working fine with that condidtion, He drained the gear oil; the gear oil was was very black and smelling porously. I bought 4 transmission oils and had it changed, i was saved from losing my gear box by this action. We still have a long way to go in learning more about our darling automobiles and our auto mechanics are not helping matters by withholding useful information’s from car owners so as to always have them come back at intervals. LETS LEARN FROM YOU, SHARE YOU EXPERIENCE. |

I believe you should also put the required fluid ATF Dextron III, or whatever is on the transmission dipstick. Check fluid level with engine running in neutral |

This is brilliant. I never knew there was such a treasure trove of information about the Camry. I actually lost a tranny due to ignorance on tranny maintenance on my 1999 Toyota Sienna (it carries a Camry V6 3.0L Engine). Please somebody advise me, where can I get this Dextron VI or III ATF? I have looked everywhere for it becuae it is the one recommended in my Sienna's manual without success. The nearest I got was a Dexron II from Total. Is that equivalent to the Dexron III or VI? Can someone please tell me if there is a site that is as rich in information about the Toyota 1999 Sienna as this Camry site is? I will be eternally grateful for the info. Many thanx in advance. |

Bro, that’s the most unfortunate aspect of car users. Buy the car first and then try and errors in maintaining it. IF I MAY ASK, ARE YOU IN NIGERIA?. Mine is Camry 99 and I have written on it dextron III as the specified transmission but in Nigeria we use the normal transmission oil same as for power steering as I was told it suffice. The gear works smooth and make the normal changes atleast thrice within a 50rpm after changing the transmission oil, its a fantastic experience. I have to confirm from the Gurus in the house, what other option is available for your car. Using my knowledge, ur car carries the same engine as my Camry 99 V6, so i think the same application applies. The problem is maintaining and making the necessary transmission oil changes regularly, as i was told by my mechanic to do same at least once after every two engine servicing. My accretions are not proven, so all other comments are welcome. |

big father: Bro, this is partly what kills cars in Nigeria. Waiting for freebies, and not being willing to pay for specialist services. There's a world of difference, between a roadside mechanic, and a specialist engineer / tech. You get what you pay for. |

EVEREST91: Bros be more subtle in your explanation. But you were there when the ignoramus was using palmoil to service your gear box. To, to the Lord all things came from and to the Lord they shall return. Go forth brother and start saving for a new gear 1 Like |

I am writing to share a cautionary tale about my recent experience with Chinozo G.O Merchants Limited and its proprietor, Chinonzo, whose contact numbers include +234903380638, +2349034100449, and +2348173341689. This warning extends to their branch office located at "Jesus is the Lord Block 18 Shop 18, Aguiyi Irons Int'l Trade Centre (Paramo), Ladipo, Mushin, Lagos," as well as their head office situated at "Jesus the Light of Salvation Block 20 Shop 7, Aguiyi Irons Int'l Trade Centre (Paramo), Ladipo, Mushin, Lagos." Recently, I purchased a Lexus 350 gear from Chinozo G.O Merchants Limited at the price of 960,000. Unfortunately, the gear turned out to be defective, and the situation escalated when I discovered that Chinonzo had packaged and sold it to me despite being aware of the issues. I engaged Mr. Emmanuel, a trusted engineer, to assess the situation, only to find that Chinozo G.O Merchants Limited's unethical practices extend to colluding with professionals in the field. Even at Ladipo, where trust is paramount, it appears that one cannot be too careful. Trust no one and always go there with different engineers. Despite the gear coming with a warranty, Chinozo refused to honor it. When I requested a replacement, he declined and insisted I pay an additional 500,000 for the replacement, even within the warranty period. His sweet talk and saintly demeanor quickly vanished, revealing a less scrupulous side. I write this message as a warning to the public—be cautious when dealing with Chinozo G.O Merchants Limited and its proprietor, Chinonzo. Do not trust their promises, and approach any transaction with them at your own risk. My aim is to prevent others from facing the difficulties I encountered. Please share this message within your networks to protect fellow community members from potential scams and unscrupulous practices associated with Chinozo G.O Merchants Limited. Thank you for your attention. Best regards ooo. 1 Like |
