FG Gets 14-day Ultimatum To Lift Ban On Rice Importation by fexti: 4:34am On Oct 26, 2016
The Campaign for Democracy, CD, has given the Federal Government a 14-day ultimatum to lift the ban on rice importation, to help reduce premature deaths by suicidal actions by hungry and frustrated Nigerians.
National Publicity Secretary of CD, Dede Uzor Uzor, who gave the ultimatum in Onitsha, Anambra State yesterday, said since government does not have any incentive for farmers to produce enough rice for local consumption, there is no need banning importation of such an important commodity.
Describing rice as one of the favourite staples of every family, Uzor declared that “with Nigeria being unable to grow enough rice for the population of about 180 million, continued placement of ban on it would only aggravate the situation and cause more harm than good.”

You can only bring rice into the country through the port but not through the borders.

This is not an excuse to open your borders n let all manner of things come in, we want a lasting solution, look at what anambra, Ebonyi, Kebbi is doing, Lagos has gone into partnership with kebbi, dangote nd co......we have to encourage them.... Brazil today is a net exporter of rice, because dey made the bold step to produce their own rice, bcomw self sufficient n exporters of rice. It took a decade 10 good yrs to achieve tht feat, do u think pple didn't suffer during that 10yr period. We only think of now, of ourselves, we never border to do things rite....Ebonyi state govt has banned eating of foreign rice so that abakaliki rice can thrive. Such policies should be encouraged . if u can't eat rice, if u can't eat beans, den go for garri. Atleast tht is made locally

Seriously I must confess, me and my family do not feel this recession in any way. Maybe it's simply cuz I looked for an alternative to get extra income.
