I received an email from Expedia(did hotel reservation thru them) that my reservation has been cancelled because they have been unable to charge the credit card, below is the email I received from them;

Dear Expedia.com Customer,

Please what do you advice that I do in this situation or should I just ignore it? I did flight booking through travel agent and also this same hotel reservation was done through the same agent. And I think that was what is mostly advised on here to do than to use one's bank card that can easily be debited.

Thanks for your usual help. God bless.

Does it have free booking? If yes, you don't need to worry at all.

a) did you book free cancellation without down payment?
b) if you used naira MasterCard, is the limit above what your bank set for Naira MasterCard?
c) does your bank still honour foreign transactions using naira mastercard?

If you can't use expedia then use booking.com. It allows booking in Naira and I've not been disappointed by the free cancellation so far.

Yes it is free booking as the agent told me that the reservation type is one to be paid for in person when checking in. But then, the hotel will still demand you put a credit card on file when making the reservation. I called the agent now and he told me to not worry or give them my number and when they call, I should explain to them that CBN policy won't allow such amount(460usd for 5 nights) to be charged directly to a Nigerian bank card as its above the CBN regulated monthly spend limit on the card. However, my concern is that incase we are unable to reach an agreement to make the reservation back active, won't that have any effect on my application? Thanks.

Bigfido, Jayfierce, I have a question;
Why would an embassy deny an applicant with good travel history on the basis of "No travel history"? I believe if an applicant would run away, he would have done that with the previous opportunities he had in his previous journeys. That statement sound somehow to me.
Are you sure its "no travel history"? If you speak of IRCC then what they tick is "travel history". It could mean a lot of things.
A) Violation of your visa during previous travels.
B) Being blacklisted/banned by other countries for submitting fake or fraudulent documents.
C) IRCC unable to verify your travel information.
D) etc

Please note that it was done by a travel agent so my answers are what he told me.

a) Yes it is free booking, and must have been without down payment.
b) 460usd is definitely above the naira mastercard limit these days.
c) I don't know for sure which bank card he used. Buh it will definitely be one of the new generation bank cards.

d) If you can't use expedia then use booking.com. It allows booking in Naira and I've not been disappointed by the free cancellation so far. I am talking about an already submitted paper route application. So I don't think I can just now change to booking.com

I have used booking.com before too in my previous travel to the us and it worked just fine even though I put my card details while making the reservation, I paid with a different naira mastercard when checking in. Don't know why he didn't just use booking this time.

@Jayfierce,
It 's not to Canada though but to another country. The person that applied is a known person, who has never violated any visa rules. Has a very good travel history but was surprised application was denied based on "No travel history".

Probably you mail the hotel and explain the card limitation to them, and help in holding the reservation till the time you arrive at Canada. With that, if the embassy contacts the hotel, they will give positive response.

This is why I dislike using agents apart from flight booking. What kind of rubbish is this? This sounds like you have been blacklisted. I just pray IRCC doesn't call these Expedia people because they seem not to even want to listen to any explanation

Blacklisted? Please what could have caused blacklisting in this matter? Please shed more light on your opinion? I was even thinking I should just leave it alone hoping that even the IRCC should be aware that there's a possibility of cancellation of hotel reservation during the longetivity period of procession people's applications.

Lets take for instance, people who their purpose of travel(e.g conference) have passed because of long processing times by IRCC and still get approved, I am sure their hotel reservations must have been cancelled or considered a no show situation. Im just thinking out loud. Please shed more light on your opinion sir. Thank you.

So I got refusal letter today after 161 days. The documents I didn't submit like I said came back to haunt me. Wish I knew about the forum before apply.

Reasons ticked are
1) personal assets and financial situation
2) purpose of visit
3) current employment status

I really don't know what made me not to attach those documents. It's painful.

I will type the letter for purpose of visit and submit my asset documents. This time of course has to be paper route.

For the employment status, asides from ticking the self employed route and the document I submitted, I was told I am supposed to write a letter on the company letterhead stating my role.

Anyways. Goodluck to those still waiting. Will let you guys know when I am ready to reapply

Am sorry. It's painful. I learnt that pain from my inlaw. He works in a multinational company and felt it was enough. He also has a US Visa, 10 years UK visa and other extensive travel history. He was refused 4 times till I found out and explained that IRCC is not the same as Sheffield. They don't mess around with documentation. He repackaged and got the visa at the 5th try through paper route.

It's painful to be refused especially after 5 months of waiting. It is well my brother. Take heart.

@bigfido so sorry, just logged in to read about your refusal. Good thing is you know where the lapses are and ready to refire. That's the spirit, tho it is very painful and frustrating but I know you will get your visa at the second attempt.

To others yet to apply, please package whatever you think is necessary. Waiting for a response from CIC is never funny. God's speed bigfido.

You cancelled on Aug 3rd, that was when your application was still under processing I believe.
What did you do after you cancelled yours with booking.com ?
Did you present another hotel booking to the IRCC explaining what happened to the cancelled booking or did you just leave it alone and not say anything?
Perhaps I can call the property directly tomorrow and know for sure what conclusion can be reached and all... Whats your take on this Sir.

Sorry to hear this @bigfido. Frustrating 5months it was. You getting that visa in your next attempt is the only consolation you need to make the wasted time worthwhile. Take your time with the documentations this time boss. And it will happen for you for sure and of course by God's grace. Kudos!

Sorry I cancelled before the 3 days deadline not on the 3rd. Had to dig up my emails to confirm. I cancelled almost two months before I got a decision on 27th of September 2016. My planned trip was from August 5th to 13th 2016. The letter from my employer also says same.

Thing is, I had used my main vacation for a trip to the US. I suspected this would raise a brow. So I explained in the letter that my job position allows me time to travel in between.

I didn't do anything after I cancelled my booking. I left it like that because I expect them to be intelligent enough to realise that since the visa has not been issued close to when I needed it, the normal thing is to cancel.

I think we are forgetting to mention as well that you will need to work on your bank statement too especially the balance as at when you print the statement. The balance should atleast cover for the whole expenses of your trip. I think a low balance 200k may be the reason why "personal assets and financial situation" was ticked as a concern. Just my opinion.

Why are you so much fuss about trifles? The embassy requested hotel and flight reservations to enable them have an idea of your itinerary. Embassies don't even advise that you pay for these reservations until the outcome of your visa is known. Now that you're so much worried about cancelled hotel reservation, I wonder how you'd feel on the flight your booking agent reserved on your behalf, because in most cases, flights cannot be booked on hold more than 24/48hours after which it will be cancelled. I'm sure your application had been submitted more than 48 hours ago and it's assumed the flight reserved for you must have been automatically cancelled by now. Please ignore their messages, it doesn't matter at this stage. You can only show some worries if your 'paid for' reservation is cancelled after your visa had been granted and are you're set for the trip. Just relax and watch out for the outcome of your application bro. Cheers

I don't think there's a problem here. Blacklist keee! You wan make manlikegb dey pant ni grin. Expedia could have sent that email after several failed attempts to charge the card with which the agent reserved the hotel. I've experienced this many times, not with expedia though....that I should contact the property owner myself because they were unable to charge my card. Embassies, including CIC only request hotel and flight reservation to enable them have an idea of your itinerary and duration of stay in their countries.

So sorry about this bigfido, after such a long wait. However, no hope is lost. Please in your next application, do a board resolution, it helps a lot especially for me. I didn't even know you were self-employed. Have somebody eg, your staff or wife introduce you on a letterhead as the founder and CEO of your company who intends to visit Canada and purpose. My wife does this most of the time, including the board resolution, for me. A sample had been posted earlier. You may also design your own. On personal asset and finance, I've never presented any landed property or survey documents to support my applications in any of the embassies I had applied to, for visas in the past. I'm not saying you shouldn't present one in your next application(pls do), just sharing my experience. I hope you submitted enough evidence of funds with your application...like a reasonable and well run bank account. What about invoices, bills of lading or Airway bills from your business partners overseas, Letter(s) of Authorisation as a distributor/representative from your manufacturers overseas(if you're into foreign business)? What about a salary account for yourself because you must have a salary account to show and to prove to the embassy that you're also a responsible and accountable business owner. I do transfer a reasonable amount from my corporate account to my saving account every month and tag it...SALARY FOR THE MONTH OF XYZ. After all it's my money. I may or may not exhaust it. Each year, I increase my salary and I'd ask my staff to do a letter of increment and document it for me. Whenever I'm renewing my visa, I'd include the letter in my documents. Kindly address all these in your next application. Try a paper route application as you said. It's got its advantages. If you forgot to submit a particular document in your paper application for instance, you could go to Anifowoshe in Lagos yourself (or send it via a courier to them if you're not resident in lagos) with a letter to back it up and hand it to the security at the gate who will help take it inside for you and acknowledged a copy of the letter you brought to back your documents. Landed property for instance can be voluminous, scanning and sending such online could be cumbersome at times. Mine is like an epistle together with my building plans' docs lol, even though I've never submitted one in the past. I often wonder how some applicants manage to upload such a heavy document one after the other. With paper application, you can add as many relevant documents as possible since that's what they want. Good luck next time.
