I don dey talk am for a while now - since we dont have the best wingers in the land, Mourihno can go with a Midfield diamond that would accommodate our important players in their respective best positions......

...............................Carrick..................................

............Herrera........................Pogba.................

...............................Mata......................................

.............Ibra/Martial.....Rashford.......................

Fortunately for us, we have decent full backs capable of providing the width needed to make the formation fully functional.

Mourihno excelled at Porto with a similar formation so it shouldn't be too difficult for him to implement nah...
For now I will continue to observe the situation. My fear has always been the midfield and if they can open up spaces and create chances. I think somebody once said here that Pogba can play as a left midfielder or prefers the left wing? I think Mo should try him there next. He should be tried across all positions on the field even keeper so we can discover his true potential and position as soon as possible. In the middle Carrick and Hererra should be first names on team sheets especially in the league.

that formation will work but may overwork our full backs, & any long term injuries in that position the system will collapse cuz we only have two with genuine pace to make it effective. It will even work best if it's a Martial/Rashford partnership upfront cuz Zlatan like to lay back, Mata will easily top assist charts. If you observed yesterday, Pogba, Mata & Zlatan were struggling to occupy same positions in the first half & that made the game more comedy.

Probably because he often starts against average teams!

Didn't he play against Feyernoord the other day?
you manage to pinch out negatives from every situation. I sincerely wish this is not how you live your real life.

We have Blind and Shaw as choices at LB - both players are more than capable of delivering results in the proposed setup.

Fosu-Mensah woulda been an ideal backup for Valencia but unfortunately, Mourihno doesnt seem to rate the lad (for whatever reasons, he has failed to build on his impressive form last season)

There would certainly be games where the manager would have to revert to a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 though...

I have always been a fan of the traditional "Big-man/little fella" CF partnership system that was a bit popular in the Epl back in the days and for me, an experienced and mature striker with Zlatan's talent would be in the team under normal circumstances. However, the Swede's poor form as we speak is a cause for concern.

Martial's linkup play is better but Rashford's positioning, awareness (especially in the opposition's box) & general sense of urgency (which could be seen as youthful exuberance) are qualities that make him one of the hottest youngsters in Europe presently.

Mata would not only cop assists, he would also score goals and influence games better.

It would be a healthy selection problem for the manager

The performance in the 2nd half was much better than the shyte we played in the 1st though I think we shoulda dominated that game more, considering the starting lineups of both sides....

I think Rashford should be loaned out or sold (with a buy-back clause inserted into the contract) - we cannot continue to stall his development as a CF by shunting him out wide (even when our main striker clearly needs some time on the bench to sort his his head out).

Our 90m haircut investment was useless in his supposed best position again - he even drifted to the left wing towards the end of the game.

As a CMF, Pogba's tactical and positional indiscipline exposes our midfield. As an AMF, he hasn't been better than Christian Obodo & to worsen matters, an in-form Mata (who should be our main creative outlet) is being played outta position simply because our black white elephant project has to be shoe-horned into the side by fire by force. Pray tell - where exactly would Pogba fit in perfectly other than the bench (if we are to persist with this formation)?

We have really missed Carrick's calmness and composure on the ball - if only Mourihno hadn't frozen him out of the team, he would be much fitter and sharper...

If Rashford is loan out, we would be worse off in attacking speed, except Martial gains form. Rashford, with his speed, consistently caused a problem to City right side of defence. That helped to open up the middle.

Pogba is too slow. If he were a fast player, his speed would compensate for Ibrahimovic's lack of it. May be something could be done about it later, but it will take time. Ozil was very slow when he first came to EPL, but Wenger put him in the gym. Ozil is now fast and strong.

With what Carrick brings, I am tempted to ask for Schweinsteiger to be recalled. Carrick cannot play all the matches, he will soon worn out if used regularly.

Hmmm...make una know say coaches don try different tactics on & off the pitch (training sections) but no result.
They have various assistants thoroughly doing their bits (analyses, formations, fitness, etc) yet no show....so it would take time.
My problem with Mou is to give UTD a perfect identity (attack-wise), that is all I need....I want to know what his legacy would be after he leaves cos I'm not moved by his stop-gap appointment.
Fergie tried for utd but if after he had left, utd is still struggling, it then means he had no legacy for the team.

my niccur Zlatan played below par in the first half last night but as soon as the team got their rhythm in the second half he turned up,He was even the man of the match.
2-dribbles
3-key passes (clear cut goal scoring opportunity)
8-ariel duels won

Rojo was unusually Impressive at CB, maybe that's his new found role since he's been shiţ at LB...And as for Herrera, I don't know where his new tenacity came from and I hope he can maintain it.

And carrick outpacing Aguero draws up a WTF moment but Carrick has a faster topspeed but less Acceleration than Aguero so no surprise there.

MAN HAS A POINT!

"Klopp has done a really good job and revived
Liverpool's enthusiasm,It can happen that big clubs lose it. For two decades, Liverpool changed managers without building their own identity. You can now well and truly sense that you have to count them in this year. You can see Klopp's dedication on the sideline - I'm convinced his work in training is similar. He's a strong personality. That's absolutely vital at a big club."

"I think there are five potential candidates, Manchester City as favourites, Tottenham and Liverpool, but also United are still there if we get some consistency soon. Even when you are trailing by six, eight points, it's still
possible to catch one or two teams. The rivalry and the experience of Guardiola and
Mourinho makes for an exciting competition. And you shouldn't forget Arsenal. The team is more sturdy. They've got better and more
aggressive. I'm impressed with the young boy
Alex Iwobi.

"Guardiola's skills are beyond debate, Antonio
Conte is getting Chelsea on track, but Mourinho can also rival Guardiola - he's won the Champions League with two different clubs and titles in three different countries. For my money Mauricio Pochettino has fantastic potential. Spurs have a good mix of youth and experience. Top players like [Harry]
Kane or [Eric] Dier were injured but they're still in a good position."

The only thing that will determine Utd's season is our performance away from home. It's what determined last season. We've dropped too many points away from home in the last 3 years. We really need to sort that out, else there won't be much difference between MOyes', Louis Van Gal's or Mourinho's united.

Of the 2 reserves that played yesterday, maffeo was forced because city had no fit right back.
Sane may be 20 but he cost almost 40 Millar.
50 million 'pep revitalised' Lionel sterling also played a part
As did better than Rashford(one of the first names on the team sheet these days), iheanacho
Not forgetting Aguero.

funny thing he's not the only person saying the rubbish.
I keep seeing everywhere that United beat city's reserves which is far from the truth.
That team Is good enough to brush many pl teams aside on a good day
But trust baldiola apologists to always provide soft landing for baldiola.
Some don dey prepare excuses for the guy since January sef

Even our squad had Rojo and blind starting together at central defence for the First time under Mourinho. Shaw who had lost his place since Watford started.
Carrick who had been a peripheral figure was also starting, so I really don't get all the 1st 11 yarns

AdisaOwala is really on point with the Formation he proposed, same with the selection of Players he lined up for it! How I wish Jose Mourinho could accidentally visit this Thread and fortunately get the best way to fix United.

We have the players who can excellently adapt well to the formation and play it satisfactorily. That was exactly my thought after seeing the Lineup. I thought JM wanted to play a four-man Midfield of Carrick at the Base, Pogba on the Left, Herrera on the right, and Mata on the Crown - then paring Ibra and Rashford upfront.

I hope he can try out the Formation against Burnley Tomorrow!

Smalling & Blind have been some of our best players over the last two years @ least. Smalling in particular has been up there with the best CBs as far as EPL is concerned, of course tears will be shed. How can they get on transfer list because they had a bad day? Who doesn't?
