Hi mamas,

I haven't been online cos my baby is still sick. We rush him to the hospital on Monday cos his temperature rose to 39°c and his breathing was abnormal.
He hasn't eaten any reasonable thing since yesterday. In fact, he has not eaten today( he vomited the one he managed to take) ,he has been taking only water. I have been to General Hospital, buy this, buy that. We did fbc test, wasn't even sure the doctor looked at the result,

I tried giving him his drugs, he vomited them out, I tried it 3 times, he still vomited, so I stopped.

I can't eat cos I'm not happy. I'm so tired of the situation. He has lost so much weight.

My baby started rejecting every every few weeks back when she was bringing out another set of teeth. She really wasted her cereals that period cos after preparing it, she won't take or she will throw up. I had to resort back to frequent breastfeeding. We have passed that phase now and she's turned back to real foodie again.

Na wa o,ignorance! She's bringing out a tooth n have been throwing up after feeds.chai! I will keep trying n wasting till she gets herself back,no choice.thanks a lot Ma'am

How old is your baby ?

If you are not happy with the quality of care you are receiving at the general hospital, please take him to a private hospital with a resident peadrictrian that can look after him.

@ rezzy I feel ur pain,is it ur first baby or 2nd? If ita baby pls try n eat n keep breastfeeding, or have u weaned him already? Y not get a second opinion since ure not comfy with d Dr dats attending 2 u.I pray for him May God quicken every organ in his body and renew his strength,be healed in the mighty name of Jesus, it is well with his spirit soul n body

@rezzy, sorry about your little one. Mu prayers are with you. I know how difficult it is to watch your child being sick, but you really have to eat and be strong for your baby.

Sorry mama you need to eat for your baby! If you are weak how do you intend to care for him? You need to be strong for him please.

Breastfeed him as often as you can and you could try spoon feeding him formula slowly or even use a medicine dropper just to make sure something gets into his stomach.


Give him water and glucose or ORS to replace lost electrolyte.

Try to keep him as cool as possible if the temp is still high.

Lastly if you are not satisfied with the doctors response please seek another.

May God heal your baby speedily in Jesus name amen.

Congrats on the baby! Don't use soap and oil/cream on his face for now. Also ensure you're not over dressing him the weather is kinda hot now

My baby was pooing loose poo, and was getting weaker by the seconds. Gave him salt-sugar solution he didn't collect much. We had to run to a close by hospital by 1 am. The doctor couldn't find his vein after so many trials. And didn't come till I sent for him by 6 am. We just had to leave when they were looking unserious.

Since this teething ish, he has stopped breastfeeding. I always try giving him but he will push me or bite me.

That said, teething is not responsible for loss of appetite, loss in weight or runny poo. There's an underlying issue and it's the job of the Doctor to find out. Even something as basic as tonsillitis can lead to reduced appetite in a baby.

I hope you've taken him to another hospital. A doctor claiming not to find a vein on a child is unserious. All he needs is an infrared light and it picks all the vein on any part of the body where the light is shone.

Babe you never see situation of collapsed veins oh even sun and moonlight won't help the situation God forbid we will not be in such dire situations abeg!!!

My dear this teething affects babies differently from my experience oh!

The discomfort will make some refuse food which of course could cause weight loss. For the stooling their constant sticking stuff in the mouth to find relief could cause that and many times it will translate to some weight loss.

Some mums are fortunate teething is a breeze for their little ones!

@ rezzy you're doing good, I like that you're not sitting around and waiting but you've taken him for prompt attention. Remember to pray and be attentive to what the Drs are doing! All is well

Maybe you should keep the ori aside for now and use the palm kernel oil sparingly. Then try to not to cover your baby too much, especially if the weather is hot.
With time it will clear off.

NB: I hope you are using original ori and palm kernel oil, because the fake will do more harm than good for your baby

Yes, we are in another hospital now. @babythug, the nurses said dehydration can cause vein to collapse.. Thank God they were able to get one on his hands.
