Icon4s: Ola Aina showed in that game he was a skillful attacking full back. Unfortunately, Conte played him on the wrong wing. I expected more from Ola Aina but it was clear the wing hindered his performance. Lots of misplaced passes. Misplaced shot. Wayward cross. That was because he was using his weaker foot. Ola Aina was poor in the game but he showed brilliant skills and amazing stamina running up and down the pitch. Got into defence to intercept some shots. Pablo Maffeo is 19, Ola is 20 but we can not compare their performances. Maffeo was miles better but we could not judge Ola because he was played on a wrong wing. |

Mickael2: You are still preaching your three at the back gospel? Did you watch Chelsea against West Ham in the EFL Cup? By twenty minutes, the West Ham players laughed during their streams of attack. They were allover Chelsea. They over crowded the wings and operated from the gaps at the defensive sides. When Chelsea spread wide, they shifted the ball to the center and they were through many times. Three at the back works with a well drilled defensive set-up. When Mancini played three at the back, Richards said there were some positions the opponents took that he did not know who he was to mark. |

I do not think Nigeria should play three at the back. It takes a lot of discipline to pull that off. Also, there has to be a lot of training hours to perfect the system. At national team level, we do not have that time. You have only 4 days to perfect a strategy to defeat your opponents, no need to bring confusion. In a long pre tournament training camp, you can work on new formations. 3 Likes |

TheGoodJoe: I watched that match it was the midfield that was getting over ran. Kante is not god and so he can't boss a midfield by himself against a full west ham squad. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 7:45pm On Oct 28, 2016 |
BascoVanVeli: When West Ham was not with the ball, the fell deep. When Chelsea pressed and lost the ball, that is when you see the overrunning you talk about. Time to attack, they spread wide, concentrating on one side before switching back to the center to finish. |

TheGoodJoe: See, I was jst laughing when i saw how West Ham wingers were running over the Chelsea defense. Antonio and Payet were jst enjoying themselves. But for poor finishing Chelsea would have been down 3-0 at half time. I have played that 3-5-2 formation a couple of times on PS . Any opposition that have fast wingers will jst stretch and demolish the defence. What the opposition does is to press from the Midfield and put a through pass that will by pass the players at Wing back or LMF/RMF. One of the CBs will be committed to chase the winger leaving the other two CB with abt 3-4 attacking Players to handle. It happens also on PS. The weakness in Conte's 3-5-2 formation has been found out. There is nothing as good as playing the traditional 4 defenders. 2 Likes 1 Share |

BascoVanVeli: That exactly is how to foil that formation. Over run or by pass the Midfielders with quick paced wingers and the 3 backs would be stretched leaving holes for the opposing attackers to feast on. 1 Like |

Icon4s: It seemed a joke to the West Ham players. If they were serious, I agree, Chelsea would have gotten a hammering. However, Conte is a master of the 3-4-3. So he can drill them to cope with the pressing and wing play. Unlike a National team where there is little time to make corrections and drill the team to deal with different challenges. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 7:56pm On Oct 28, 2016 |
Icon4s: Even though City did not win the game against Manchester United in the EFL Cup, there was an ease in organized play in City with the 4-2-3-1 formation. The four at the back is ideal and easy to cope. City played with Fernando and Aleix Garcia. Imagine playing Gundogan and Fernandinho as the pivots. With Clichy and Sagna as the full backs. I agree with you. Four at the back remains the best. |

TheGoodJoe: This should not even be an issue i'm sure Conte isn't losing sleep about his formation, he just picked the wrong team against a super full strenght west ham team. |

BascoVanVeli: You and Conte can stick to three at the back. I said do not try it with our National team with very short time to prepare. There was a time three at the back reigned in the 90s. Later it faded. (food for thought) 1 Like |

There is a 15 yr old Nigerian that has recently been signed by Liverpool for a six figures transfer fee. His name is Emeka Obi. He is the youngest player to play for Bury at 15 yrs and 86 days and his Bury coach called him 'the best talent right now at 15 years old in the entire country' . That is how highly, he is rated. He is a giant at 6 foot 5 inches and plays CB. He has not been capped by any country but expect that to change soon. He must have a lot of potential for Liverpool to spend that much on a 15 year old. 1 Like |

TheGoodJoe: If this was all u had said i would have saved my breath but u r throwing shade on the system over one loss. I think u are letting ur crusade against Conte get the better of ur judgement. U said it urself that Chalobah was horrible and now u are blaming the 3-4-3 for the loss, niether of the wing backs played and its not like West ham needed half as much help beating chelsea as the line up gave. |

Icon4s:All you've proven is that you don't like the system. Or may be it's Conte you dislike. Conte has been found out? Because he lost an EFL cup to a full-strength West Ham playing a second-string team? I guess Pep has been found out with his 4-5-1 formation, right? At least he also lost to United. Conte is no amateur. His Juventus 3-5-2 team won titles upon titles. He's a brilliant tactician. I think that formation would work for Nigeria. Moses is made for that formation. Chelsea's not lost a game since he started featuring. Nigeria just needs to not rush it if the coach wants it. Friendly matches can be used as guinea-pigs. Most times, you don't know what will happen until you try. For a lot of years, no one thought a formation outside 4-4-2 could win trophies. 2 Likes |

BascoVanVeli: I do not know why you try to base your point on me throwing shades at Conte. I think it is time some people get that I do not let sentiments cloud my judgment. If you had a clear mind on this issue, you will see where I wrote that Conte is a master of the 3-4-3 and he can deal with the challenges. I am not throwing shades on Conte but I am talking of the challenges coaching with three at the back. You chose to use throwing shades at Conte to make it look that way but I have quoted you highlighting Mancini and Van Gaal who had challenges coaching three at the back. I talked about teams in the last World Cup and the challenges they faced. Yet you chose throwing shades at Conte. If a different set of wing backs had challenges, do you think the Super Eagles defenders that do not play regularly together will not have problems? Is that throwing shades at Conte? |
