The National Assembly on Thursday, 27th October 2016 held a National Prayer Breakfast summit at the International Conference Center Abuja to commit the nation to God.

Speaking at the event, President Muhammadu Buhari charged Nigerians to be light bearers who can lite the path for others in the world.

Drawing his charge from Genesis 32:2 and 1 Chronicles 12:32, President Buhari said the nation was facing hard times which required leaders in positions of authority to show greater understanding, commitment and patriotism.

Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Engr. Babachir Lawal, the President urged leaders to show more sense of responsibility in Nigeria, reminded them that there will come a moment everyone will be demanded to give account of their deeds.

"Be the light of the world as the Bible commands, because a city built on the hill cannot be hidden".

He charged Nigerians to resist the temptation to view the present economic challenges with despondency.

"We must all talk about the economy in positive light to build confidence in our people. As believers we must live by faith, believing God that Nigeria will surmount its challenges, and come out stronger, and efficient than before".

Chairman of Christian Legislators fellowship in Nigeria , Senator Barnabas Gemade said the summit aimed at addressing issues including creating a platform for dialogue to enable Nigerians build lasting relationships across political groups, perceptions and convictions; and practice the Bible's teaching on fellowship according to Acts of the Apostle 2:42.

In a keynote address titled "A tree and its fruit: Is yours a blessing or curse to Nigeria?", Rev. Abu Bako said the simple way to know the tree is by its fruit.

Drawing his message from Matthew 7:15-20; 2chronicles 7:13-14 ; Mathew 16:13-18 ;Acts 17:26-28 and Ecclesiastics 10:16-17 Rev Bako said legislators and Nigerians must rise up in unison to challenge facing the country.

Speaking with journalists at the end of the event, chairman, publicity sub-committee of the summit, Senator (Dr) Ita Enang said the 7th National Prayer Breakfast was successful because of the commitment of various committee members.

Enang urged christians across the country to pray without ceasing believing that God will lead Nigeria out of its economic crisis.

Goodwill messages were presented by Christian Association of Nigeria - CAN, Bishop of Methodist Church Abuja District, Rev Uche Job, Rev Tabajide Odowola of the Four Square Gospel Church and the
Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Pilgrimage Mission.

Prayers were offered for Nigeria, her citizens, the presidency, national assembly, and the economy of the country.

National Assembly mass choir ministered in songs.

Dignitaries at the event were SGF, Engr Babachir Lawal, Senate President, Bukola Saraki - represented by the the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, christian senators, House of representatives members, the clergy among others.
