TheSuperNerd:Hehehe. Anyway, I'm done with that discussion. If people think 3-5-2 is weird, what will they think of 2-3-5? May be they will go for a recess. There are formations aplenty. It's all about being creative and having the players to pull it off. |

Nice team selection, its like this coach have been studying Nigeria football for a long time. On the 3-4-3 formation, I think its worth trying, Chelsea-Westham match is not good enough reason to speak against it. |

Good observation! Their attack is all about Mahrez, Mahrez and Mahrez then fourthly, Brahimi. Their midfield is good but ours is stronger. I have taken time to watch a few of their games (mostly extended highlights of 12-15mins) via you-tube. We gotta watch the wings. But thru the middle, they got a certain feghouli who on his day can wreck a defence. So the wings is their main attacking outlet. Mickael2: |

TheGoodJoe: attacking full backs does not make it a balanced formation,in modern football full backs attack no matter the formation, that one is a norm. if you want to go all out in a game and play an attacking game, then playing two DMFS in the same game shouldn't even be considered at all. just give me an example of one dominant team that has ever used that formation, none! Chelsea used it when they won the champions league or so I think and we all know how defensive that team was. this explanation you have this formation can only be actualized by robots for ninety minutes. you are saying bombing forward and backwards as if they have jetpacks hanging on their backs, so most times they play it safe, the side midfielders usually stay n the middle to avoid had I known |

TheSuperNerd: which position does Feghouli play for them? I haven't really discovered that yet because he hasn't been playing for them. I think he plays as a second striker for them or so, if he does then they can successfully bypass our midfield. meanwhile you are forgetting that Brahimi will also be coming from the other side, not to mention that Guediora is there too, land!We need to fortify our wings |

SUPER EAGLES WORLD CUP CAMP OPENS NOV 7 IN ABUJA Mikel, Iheanacho in Eagles training Super Eagles will open training camp in Abuja on Monday, November 7, ahead of a crucial World Cup qualifier against Algeria. Officials informed that the Eagles will train till Thursday before they fly out to Uyo, where the match will be played on Saturday, November 12. Kick-off time at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium is 5pm local time. The match venue hosted last month's final 2017 AFCON qualifier against Tanzania. Coach Gernot Rohr is expected to announce a 25-man squad for the match any time from now. Nigeria are top of the qualifying group after a 2-1 win at Zambia earlier this month, while Algeria played out a 1-1 draw at home with Cameroon. Only the overall winners from this group will qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Source: http://africanfootball.com//news/659477/Super-Eagles-World-Cup-camp-opens-Nov-7-in-Abuja 1 Like |

TheGoodJoe: yes. his work rate is okay no doubt but we can't overlook his poor passing abilities, on the other hand, Ndidi can replicate that same work rate and also tick the other boxes which he has failed to tick. |

Feghouli plays 10 for them. Normally, they pair Slimani and Soudani upfront. Truth is on the wings, they are strong but like the algerian journalists confessed also, we are also monsters on the wings with Simon, Musa, Moses, and even Iwobi. Feghouli won't have it easy bypassing our midfield though. I know you say he will because you know Onazi will play DMF and u just don't like the Onazi idea.... Loooooolllllllll As for Brahimi, he's there but Algerian attacks of the last four to five competitive matches always go thru mahrez.... He's the "true" danger man and their major attacking outlet. Chaaiiiii... Somebori shout Echiejileeeeee!!!!!!!!! Mickael2: |

phamarsenal:you're so on point Sir. Sometimes, I see our ouster from AFCON'17 and our inability to clinge gold @ Rio as a blessing in disguise. Imagine our national team under d tutelage of a local coach. A certain Aminu, sadiq(i'm not saying de ain't good but d're not d best) et al., will be leading our team. The best will never be invited. Chai!!! We don suffer... those folks have really dragged d national team in muddy waters cos of their egos n personal interests. If it were before d news line from our opponent will read thus: Nigeria no longer Giants f Africa. Nigeria living on past glories... And so on... But thank God those are now in d past. In a short time, very soon, The SUPER EAGLES will once again spread it's wing, soar n be a force to reckon wit in Africa and d World at large. God bless d FRN!!! God bless Rohr!!! TheSuperNerd:competitive! this will motivate the players to moil and play with great tenacity in training sessions in other to earn the starting eleven spot against Algeria. I'm happy that the SE has a coach who is not motivated by emoluments/perquisites but motivated by his desire to participate in the world cup and play against his country Germany. A coach who claims to have attained financial freedom, thus a lag in servicing his remuneration will be considered trifling. He accepted the coaching job knowing that many coaches before him worked without being paid. I hope he still maintains the sole purview of selecting the starting eleven even now that Yusuf has been ratified as the “head coach” so as to shun sentiments. Or can someone help me with a compendium of the job description between a head coach and a technical adviser? |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 12:18pm On Oct 29, 2016 |
Mickael2: The two DMFs stand as pivots in the midfield. In the case of City vs Man Utd in the EFL, Fernando and Aleix did this well. They stayed deep most times but dictated forward play from these deep position. Aleix drifted forward sometimes to increase fluid movements between the attack and midfield. This enabled Clichy and Maffeo move forward, knowing there is not much gap behind them. Due to the cover from the DMFs. These were not robots but they executed the play well. With Navas and Nolito making perpetrating runs from the wings and Sane driving in from the attack midfield, it was a true example of balance attacking play. Not defensive. |

blueto: The technical adviser draws the plans and strategies he wants the team to play. The Head coach prepares the team to play in the manner the technical adviser wants the team to play. Like the technical adviser draws up drills he wants the players to perform. The head coach carries them to the field and makes the players do it. The technical adviser feels a high intensity style will help stop the opponents and the head coach carries the team and makes them do drills to play at a high intensity. TA = Brainwork Head Coach = Physical preparation. My own two hundred naira. 1 Like |

What a list!!! Nigeria is lucky to have such a passionate coach who is not interested about the salary but more about the work. The Absence of Amuzie and madu suggests that they did not do enough to please the coach at left back. This suggests that Brain Idowu will also compete for the left back spot. I hope Ebuehi gets his travel documents sorted on time. Finally a genuine right back. I remember asking for him and ehizibue to be invited when we were struggling with Efe Ambrose. TheGoodJoe:I believed there is an iota of truth in what he said. Even if those aforementioned prodigious and coruscating players were all invited, they wouldn't have been featured and used optimally. Remember the return leg match against Egypt, Iheanacho did not start despite his awesome display against same Egypt in Kaduna that led to the goal. And so was Iwobi who was later introduced in a belated time when the Pharaohs had already scored. The fact remains undeniable that current form is not a top criteria for the indigenous coaches. Other unofficial and tacit factors are being exerted. 1 Like |

blueto: There is a bit of misunderstanding in these things. For instance, Keshi did not have these players available. Under Oliseh, I can agree lots of bias. Like dropping of Mikel for Onobi. Under Siasia there was little time to prepare the team. It was crucial games he handled and invited players he worked with. Under Yusuf, many can not criticise his options. It was not far from Rohr's list. That is why I am not critical of our coaches. I am intrigued by Rohr's open attacking play. That is where I feel we gained but I expected that as our players keep breaking into European clubs, our team will improve. |

TheGoodJoe:less I repeat thesame thing Sir. Blueto said. The two players I mentioned represents d group of players who do not deserve call up but mostly found on indigenous coachies list. You 're now portraying late keshi, siasia as saints of this system. But you've forgotten so quick that t was d same keshi who put Agbim between d sticks, went to d worldcup with ukoh, azeez, ameobi... n siasia who didn't invite a fit n informed I. success but went all d way to start Aminu ahead of Iwobi n Nacho in Alexandra claiming that de're ain't mature enough. Rohr is dedicated to his job and he is not handling t wit levity(an I don't care attitude mostly found wit d indig.) I know you might say our owns are made to work under harsh condition of empty stomach. Fine. But can you tell who catered for Rohr's recent trip to England? I'm doubt it is d poverty-ridden nff. 2 Likes 1 Share |
