There are Graphic APi that are responsible for rendering 3D on the screen , and each API talk to the GPU, DirectX which is a windows thing and OpenGL which is cross platform and OpenGL ES which is for embedded devices mostly, however OpenGL ES doesn't support some features that make either gaming fast or allow Game dev take full advantage of the GPU, so a new API was born which is the Vulkan API which allows a better access (low level) to the GPU meaning more control and more power, so you might be seeing better games and enchaned graphics and it's mostly new phones which support it, any phone that supports it is an high end phone in my opinion.

Get ready to change your definition of a “premium selfie.” Chinese tech giant Gionee has just posted a teaser image on its official Twitter account showing off its upcoming S6s smartphone, which it claims will redefine what a “premium selfie” means.
