What propels the shafts? The solar panel or batteries? grin grin grin. It's about re-phrasing statements. It's impossible for such to have no engine. It's just simply saying a "Solar powered engine" which is not close to "No engine"
What propels the shafts?? the keke has an electric motor connected to d battery and dat answers Ur question. And You can't classify dat as an engine because technically an engine is a device that burns or
otherwise consumes fuel, changing its chemical composition.

Op!

You need to be detailed. How can a tricycle move without engines. Yes! It's solar powered I know, but which one is no engine and only batteries? How is it then moving?

The only function of an engine is to burn fuel and produce motion, this motion is then transmitted through the crankshaft to the tires.

If a battery can power an electric motor to produce that motion an transmit same to the tires, you don't need engines. Shey you grab?

Your statement is outrightly false and used a wikipedia definition to back it up. There is nothing like "No Engine" when energy is transformed to Mechanical energy

There's something I have been trying to understand.

If someone from Akwa does something good, he is called Akwa Ibomite, if he does something bad, he is called Calabar. Any idea?

I saw a post where someone was talking about a flying keke with solar panel.
I know you won't disappoint

So a battery powers the electric motor and transmits it to the crank shaft and the car moves..... lol

You re a comedian!

Do you know what they call gears in automobile? The electric motor also does that too? Lol

Let me believe u re not an engineer. I have pardoned you.

Also, your definition about an engine is outrightly wrong. Wikipedia will help

it will obviously have an electric motor to power the tricycle. avnt u heard of electric cars.

"The keke has no engine" NA SO. Continue,Very soon you will become like metuh/Abati. All i see here is the fact that he converted the combustion propelled engine to be powered by electrical energy from the solar panel. Kudo all the same.
I.C. Engines only provide power to drive the michanisms. what of bicycles? do they have engines?
Re: Ekomobong Finbarr Designs Solar-Powered Keke In FUTO For His School Project by Nobody: 12:51pm On Oct 31, 2016
I see nothing new here or innovative. Every body knows a solar powered tricycle can be made, it's not rocket science. But the problem lies in when it comes to making a solar powered tricycle that is safe and cheap to manufacture by making every component yourself like a real engineer. Now if you can achieve that, that is true innovation.
Any one can go on YouTube and watch videos on how to make a hydrogen powered car, but that doesn't make the person an inventor.
This is a project just to score extra points grin

What I think he meant is that instead of fuel powered engine, it's solar powered. Even the solar is to charge the battery.

A young man from Akwa Ibom state, Ekomobong Finbarr, constructed and defended this solar powered tricycle (Keke) as his first degree project in Electrical Engineering, Federal University of Technology, (FUTO), Owerri. According to reports, the tricycle has no engine, just battery and the solar system and can go 11km without blinking.

His Head of Department, Mr. Damian Dike with his colleague Dr. Mrs. Achumba enjoyed the first cruise of the Keke.

Whoever wrote this information was totally misinformed. I have no doubt this hasn't gotten to Finbarr.

The project was a group project and not an Idea and effort of one person.

I think credit should be given to other guys who I saw toil day and night to ensure the project was successful.

They did a Wonderful job.
I pray you guys head higher.

Good work, young man!

The only issue is, 2 square meters can yield up to 250W of power in the early afternoon, engine would have to be at least 1 to 1.5 kW, meaning the batteries would have to be charged all day for 30-45 minutes ride. Still, good work!
