The New Us is probably lonely .. My first daughter comes back from school, does her home work and then goes to her room to watch cartoon. And then if there is any interruption in power supply she picks her hand device to play one game or the other . This is pretty much her life routine ,daily .She's 5 already. We have lived in our current neighborhood, an elite estate in Enugu GRA for almost 2 years now,but she has no friends ,not one . My daughter probably never met any kid living in the estate ,they never played together nor shared any toys ,and she's growing into a teenager . I see boredom in her everyday and am worried . Her birthdays are usually attended by kids we hurriedly pleaded with their parents to bring to the house for the party, no real friends ,usually they never meet again after the birthday party,or till the next birthday Party. They do not even get to know one another's names, emergency parties ,emergency grooves and emergency gifts . Am worried about what kind of personality she's gonna develop not having enough time to socialize with other kids except at school, which usually allow about 30 minutes of break each school day. This is the story of the new society we are building. High fences ,little interactions, mind your business, forming contentment and throwing away community life . I remember my childhood and I shudder at what these kids face nowadays. We roamed the streets, we went hunting,we spent long hours in one another's houses ,we shared lunches and we developed life long relationships . With the evolution of the www,the classroom is disappearing. In less than 20 Years we wouldn't be needing class rooms as our learning would become mostly virtual. Our kids would meet in the internet and date online, falling in love would become old fashioned and with time there won't be need for marriages as any one desiring procreation could easily get one through technology without needing a partner ,sex has become cyber based as over 60% of solicitations are currently online and climbing, Badoo, Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, POF etc. Technology has also developed alternative means of sexual gratification, the women folks have been almost completely settled in that aspect as most people could now derive maximum sexual pleasure with all types of intimacy gadgets mostly more efficient than physical men and no risks of relationship complications including heartbreaks and STDs. Improvement is currently taking place in male intimacy gadget development. In about 50 years time 90% of sex workers in Japan and Holland would be robots that posses better abilities than humans . I understand this feeling. I almost went through what your daughter is going through. My dad is a strict man and I don't get to make friends. I started making friends when I forced them to put me in boarding school. That was when i started having friends. That's why I'm still an introvert up till today. I have gone to places in my HEAD. I think you should hang out with your married friends with kids so that she can make friends. This is bad for her upbringing. My dad said in those days, if he goes out for like 2days, his parents won't be bothered because there was security and good friends. They could sleep over any where but nowadays, case closed! 3 Likes |

You made a lot of sense. But despite that, there are other means of socializing your children. I think we need to create kids socializing centers |

Don't you attend a church even if it's once in a week?... if you did and maybe took her to the Children's department she would have made a few friends. For a moment I thought she was your only child until I saw "My first daughter" I feel the electronic gadgets came too early for her(t.v in her room, hand device)... I know things are changing buh as a parent you should help control her obsession for things like that. (I hope she does well in school) You should try also to have a "family time" like on Saturdays, this will help her alot... you need to act fast else you'll wake up one day to find your daughter all grown up and realise you know nothing about her... I suggest you should make her responsible for somethings, give her tasks and make her understand she has to finish them @ a certain time before she does her thing. That way she'll spend less time alone. |

Are you sure she is not on the autistic spectrum? She is only five so give it some time. If she clocks 9 and still symptomizes these antisocial tendencies, then that is when you are right to have a beat of the nerves and batten down the hatches. As others have said, if you are to counteract this then you should have her in as many social gatherings as possible (church-mosque, parties, family get-togethers), but it is almost the equivalent of trying to fit a quart into a pint pot as people who just like to be alone would still not cave in to socialising with others , even if you had them trussed up and tossed in the middle of a phalanx of people. 8 Likes |

It is well...it is really well! Maybe you should take her out more for play time with neighbors and family members. I think the children of the privileged are the most in danger of being social recluses. My friend's children can play for African in their small flat, when I go visiting and say the password peren from the gate...two pairs of trained ears and eyes are already latched on. Na shoutshout ...jumping jumping ready to play! Childrenofgod....that's the password Engage her... |
