Nigerian Bloggers; Plagiarizing Nairalanders' Posts by Nobody: 8:43am On Nov 01, 2016
If you're someone like me who is crazy about surfing the internet then you must have noticed, at least once, that most Nigerian bloggers are specialists in stealing other people's works and making their readers believe it all came from their almighty brains.
I have on countless occassions seen blog posts and yelled "i can swear I've seen this on Nairaland".
No I'm not talking about News, i mean actual articles people put so much hardwork into.
Sometime back, a Nairalander claimed he saw his article published in a magazine. He was never contacted and the publishers weren't wise enough to include the source of their "research".
Am i saying people shouldn't blog? NO!!
What I'm trying to say is this; If you cannot make up ORIGINAL POSTS for your blog, YOU HAVE NO BUSINESS BLOGGING. And if you lift someone else's work and you don't have the decency to acknowledge them or their website as your source, then you're not a blogger. YOU'RE AN INTERNET BURGLAR!!
(I won't mention names because i wasn't paid for publicity). You know yourselves.

Those who post on Nairaland do so because it's like owning your own blog and expressing your own thoughts. We are not stupid, STOP PLAGIARIZING OUR CONTENT.

LONG LIVE NAIRALAND, LONG LIVE NAIRALANDERS.

The "boss" doesn't write the posts. It's common sense, you can't just take what people worked for.

You sounded like an internet thief tho.
It's like stealing a blogger.com post and saying "even google isn't complaining". Please be logical.
I won't mention names, they know themselves.

Wow wow wow!!! This is awesome...amazing! I can't believe my eyes! Op, guess what? Well, I woke up this morning with exactly this thought on my mind! Are you a spirit? cheesycheesy Lol grin grin.
Now, what happened is that, there are some write ups that I planned to do when I get to the office this morning, which I wanted to put up on nairaland immediately-write ups on agric, education, sports and football (4 in all), talking about how to make money in them. Alternatively, I decided to first "e-jot" the points down (that is, jot them down in soft form in my phone). But something suddenly came on my mind that made me to change my mind...the same thing that has prevented me from publishing most of my write ups on nairaland-the issue of satanic bloggers stealing people's write ups on this forum to use on their blog without even mentioning that it was written by you. I've seen uncountable ones! Because of this act, for several years, I had no thread on this forum...I've been very reluctant to publish my articles especially educative ones because I've been seeing them stealing so many people's write ups and putting it on their blogs. Even as I recently started creating threads, I have the write ups I do publish. It's so unfortunate. As a result of this, most of the time, I prefer to publish my write ups either on my company's website (though the I shut it down now, to reorganise it), my company's facebook page or on the blogs of some of my people. In that way, I can put warning there that it shouldn't be copied without my prior permission and without mentioning me the author as well as the source. You know, it's as if you entered my mind to know what's there. Anyway, I still went ahead to write 2 other different articles and I just came online now to post the threads only to run into this your thread, how wonderful! Anyway, thanks for this fantastic post! A pleasant day to you.

bros, chill. Plagiarism is big shii that shouldn't be encouraged. If you lift people's work, it's common sense to acknowledge the original owner of the work. How hard is that?

It's not really about lifting the work, it's about acknowledging the original owner

It's a big crime. If you're involved, desist from it

Lol grin...You are actually very intelligent. The act is unbecoming, these so-called bloggers need to be cautioned. You find even some established blogs with 0% original posts and they have the effrontery to call themselves bloggers o.

Pleasant day to you as well my brother.

Thanks for the compliments. As for cautioning them, I've been imagining that maybe the management of nairaland should put up a strict warning out there-warning that nobody should copy and use anybody's post or article that was posted on nairaland without the original owner's permisson and the copier must put the source as well as the writer. Several times, I've actually thought of this and even thought of sending a message to Seun to suggest it to him. I know that Seun and his main MODs have a lot in their hands, the work is not easy.

I have thought of that too. Hopefully he (Seun) sees this and does something about it. And yes, it isn't easy.

I don't think anything can be done because we have no strict online policies against plagiarism.. I posted an article about five days ago and I was astonished to see that about 40 Nigerian websites have plagiarized it when I searched the same article on Google

I'm sorry to hear your post was plagiarized. Sadly, Nigeria doesn't have guiding rules for things like this or at least, such rules are not taken seriously, else why would someone spend so much time writing a valuable piece only to be rewarded by a lazy blogger plagiarizing it?

Ahh! Tosyne2much, don't even bother to mention your own! You are the number 1 victim of plagiarism on nairaland gringrin...they dub your work anyhow...probably on daily basis!
And talking about online policy against plagiarism, it does not really require that-it is theft of intellectual property and thus, it offenders can be prosecuted in the law under theft. Also, if you see your write up on any blog that was used without your permission, you know you can actually sue the morafockng blogger, right? Just make a sreenshot of the blog, then call the attention of the relevant bodies, let them see it before you then take further action. One of such relevant bodies is Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON).

It is very disheartening to see another person reaping the fruit of your labour. Sighs!!!
