goldfish80: If he was good for Bayern at 17, he was certainly good for Nigerian under 17 at 15 but we were more interested in taking old men that will retire a few years after the world cup. |

Alaba Might Have Rejected Nigeria Due To His Problem With His Dad "I stayed away from everybody. When the political success came I could not stand the crowd. One day, I opted out. "My father asked to do something and I refused and he said he should not find me at home when he came back if I did not do what he asked me to do. "I don’t remember what he asked me to do but I left swearing never to burden his doorway with my shadow ever again.” http://t.guardian.ng/opinion/alabas-rejection-of-his-father/ |

tbaba1234: Alaba did not take it that way. He understood it was logistics issues. As I said before, that was not enough reason to turn down playing for Nigeria. I doubt his heart was fully devoted to us. If he wanted to play for us, an U17 exclusion is not enough to turn a player away. |

Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by goldfish80(m): 11:55am On Nov 01, 2016 |
tbaba1234:Well, it's easy to say now because we have the benefit of hindsight. If the authorities knew he would become a world class player 5years later they would have made a chance for him Remember in the 2013 u17 team, we had Habib Makounjuola who was at Chelsea and highly rated. 3 years on, Iheanacho, Success, Nwakali, Ndidi etc are the ones making waves. Its just hindsight 2 Likes |

goldfish80: Definitely, Alaba was a prodigy. The age tallies. However, no report of him in camp. You can see from the article posted. That was about 2009/2010. He did not say he was in the camp. Nice info that he was so young and so good at 17 years. Very impressive. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by goldfish80(m): 11:59am On Nov 01, 2016 |
TheGoodJoe:I read this version a long time before I heard he was in camp with his dad. Whichever one it is, he has gone to do well for himself and we watch him with admiration. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 12:00pm On Nov 01, 2016 |
goldfish80: What is sad was that, as soon as Bayern Munich signed Alaba, we should have contacted him. Let him know he has a chance to play for us. Send scouts to watch him. If Austria felt he was good enough for them, in 2008, Siasia should have reached out to him and assure him a big role in the U20 Squad. Sad, Siasia was more interested in Obiora Nwankwo. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by tbaba1234: 12:00pm On Nov 01, 2016 |
goldfish80: As long as we are parading truly young players.. Some will inevitably slip through the cracks. In 2007, we did not parade young players, that's the frustrating part. At least maybe one of them would have been at Alaba's level today. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 12:03pm On Nov 01, 2016 |
goldfish80: At the end, we can only wish the young man the best. He still has Nigeria in his heart. It was nice seeing Alaba carrying the Nigerian flag when Bayern won the 2012/2013 Champions League. 1 Like |

TheGoodJoe: I think Siasia was more interested getting Sone Aluko for his 2009 WYC in Egypt. Nwankwo Obiora was home based at the time with Niger Tornadoes or Wikki tourist if I remember. |

tbaba1234:It's quite surprising that 2007 team has hardly produced any player of repute. I rated Udoh highly, I thought he would go on to even captian the Super Eagles at some point. Matthew Edile was signed up by Man city after the tourney, but nothing has been heard about him since then. Rabiu Ibrahim after the euphoria signing for sporting Lisbon have since stagnated Lukman Haruna is Lukman Haruna. Chrisantus...... Guys like James Rodriguez who played for Colombia at same tournament with no impact whatsoever is currently at Real Madrid, worth more than $50m Am disappointed with that generation to be honest. 1 Like |

tbaba1234: I see! But I think from the look of the situation on ground, the family seems to be the deciding factor in this situation. Otigba case is something I still don't understand. Some people claims it's paper issue but I suspect foul play. Do you have any information? 1 Like |

forgiveness: Aluko was very impressive playing behind the Striker for us against South Africa. I say if he gets the chance to play for us, he should play that role. His style of play attacks players and creates gap for our forwards to excel. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 1:13pm On Nov 01, 2016 |
goldfish80: Obiora was that bad. Do you remember the Inter Milan game that Bale ran riot on Maicon? Obiora was one of the reasons it happened. Benitez gave Obiora that responsibility to support Maicon, he failed and left Maicon exposed throughout the game. One of the big mistakes of Benitez. Keshi dodged a bullet when he dropped Obiora at the 2012. |

Icon4s: Who told you Joel Obi can't make the team? I don't think Etebor is in the same level with Aluko. In short, Aluko is not likely going to make the team because he is playing in the Championship. Simple. |

forgiveness: So it is time we drop Ikeme because he is playing in the Championship. Simple. What of Alampasu? I doubt his league is Championship quality. That is why I like invite to camp and screen. |

forgiveness: Camp and screen. Do not use Aluko is not good and then select players from same or lower leagues. Simple, screen the promising players and select the best. Anything apart from that is Partia. |
